Hey everybody.  I've got just a beautiful original 1988 Honda Civic DX Hatchback for sale for you folks today.  This car is absolutely fantastic, all-original, never abused, garaged since new...basically any positive attribute of a vehicle you can ascribe to a car you can ascribe to this one.

I purchased the vehicle from a friend of mine's mother, who has owned it since new.  She doesn't drive anymore, and he knows I like a little project, so he offered me the vehicle.  We had the vehicle towed out of the garage where it has spent it's entire life, since the day she brought it home from Majestic Honda, right here in Rhode Island, in 1988.

This is a real little-old-lady owned car.  She drove the vehicle to pick the grandkids up from school, and to church on Sundays...sounds like a total cliche, but that's the story of this Civic.

I had to do a few repairs of the vehicle, namely a new battery and alternator, a new fuel pump, and new rear window gas struts.  With those, the car is good to go.  Runs beautiful, transmission shifts great, stops and turns like it should.  Oh, I also did an oil change.  The oil in it looked pretty good, but hey, better safe than sorry right?

This car is a time capsule, friends.  To a time where a passenger side mirror was an option.  To a time where power windows weren't even available.  And to a time before cars were built down to a price...this little car is solid as a tank.  The doors shut as solidly as the ones on my Audi, just a nice ka-thunk noise...no rattling here.  Oh, and there is absolutely zero rust on the undercarriage.

Not a single crack in the dashboard, no wear to the steering wheel.  Actually, tell you what, I'll tell you the things that aren't perfect on the vehicle, because that's a shorter list.

On the outside of the car, there are two small issues.  One is a minor crease, right above the passenger side rear tire.  The other is three little spots of surface rust on the driver's side, ahead of the rear wheel.  I've included pictures of both.  There are also two scratches on the driver's side door, looks like maybe Grandma missed with the key a few times.  There's no rust in the scratches, and can be easily touched up.

There is one wear spot on the bolster of the driver's side seat, visable in one of the pictures.

The tires all have good tread, but one doesn't match.

The car needs a good detail job both inside and out to be cherry.

The car is actually equipped with a rear window wiper and defroster...and interesting choice given the lack of a passenger side mirror, but whatever.  They both work.

I can see this car going three ways.  Option 1, you want a really clean Civic as a daily driver to get you 30+ MPG.  Option 2, you collect vintage Hondas and it would be a great part of your collection.  Option 3, you're an import tuner and you want a super solid unmolested EF Civic for your canvas.  It's awesome for all of those, and really for anything else you want it for.

I've got a bunch more pictures of the vehicle, so if you want to see something besides the pictures I've put up, let me know...I'm sure I can oblige you. I have registered the car here in RI which is what I have to do to be able to re-sell it. RI does not title cars older than 2001, so it will be sold with the current registration and a Bill of Sale. I do however have the original title for the car which will be included along with the original owners manual and, get this, 2 factory keys!!!! It bugs me when you buy a 3 year old car and you can't even get 2 keys but this sale is done right.

Thanks for looking, and good luck bidding.

Acura organizes new business division to confront falling sedan sales

Wed, 26 Feb 2014

Honda and Acura North America have announced a major restructuring of operations in hopes of turning around Acura's flagging business. For 2013, sales for Acura's sedans dropped 10.4 percent, while its CUV sales grew by 21 percent. The newly formed Acura Business Planning Office will attempt to right the ship.
As part of the restructuring, Acura is promoting Erik Berkman from President of Honda R&D Americas to lead a new division called the Acura Business Planning Office. Berkman has been with Honda since 1982 and led development of the 2006 Accord. He was also the first US engineer to head North American research and development and has been head of Honda Performance Development since 2008. "Erik's appointment to the new Acura Business Planning Office is a clear indication of the high priority we place on Acura," said Honda spokesperson Jeffrey Smith to Automotive News.
American Honda Motor President and CEO Tetsuo Iwamura is also going to be working to improve the business. He has been elected chairman of American Honda's board, and has simultaneously taken the new position of Corporate Brand Officer to improve the management of the company's brands.

Next Honda Ridgeline to eschew weird visuals, go mainstream?

Wed, 08 Oct 2014

Last year, Honda gave us the first furtive glance at the next-generation Ridgeline with a shadowy photo of it in profile (above), and it promised that the pickup would "come to market in less than two years." That would have put the truck on track for a 2015 debut, but the automaker hasn't said anything more officially about the new model since then.
A new report from USA Today might shed some new light on the mysterious model. It claims that the next Ridgeline has more conventional pickup styling than the original model in a bid to conquest some buyers. You can get that feeling from the sketch, which appears to showing something far more traditional than the unorthodox original Ridgeline, whose odd tapering bedsides terminated in a double-hinged tailgate.
USA Today goes on to claim that the new Ridgeline will go on sale around late 2015 or early 2016. That's a bit later than expected, but fits with an earlier rumor.

2014 Honda Odyssey sucks it up for our editor

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

When we heard that the 2014 Honda Odyssey would be getting the world's first in-car vacuum, we had to check this thing out for ourselves. Called HondaVAC, this tidy little sucker was co-developed with Shop-Vac, and it's actually pretty neat. It comes standard on Odyssey's top-trim Touring Elite model and can be fitted with a wide range of attachments all housed in the cargo area. Honda notes that the vacuum hose is long enough to reach surfaces in every part of the Odyssey's cabin, and that it will even run for a full eight minutes after the vehicle is turned off.
Good thing, then, that Honda chose to show off the new 2014 Odyssey here at the New York Auto Show, as Autoblog west coast editor Michael Harley clumsily managed to spill some snacks all over the cargo area (we tried to convince him to give himself a hickey, but he declined on grounds that his wife might not let him attend any more auto shows). Take a look at the video below to see just how well the new minivan cleans up.
