A great truck!  This is a well cared for GMC 3500 6.6L Duramax!  All leather seats, camper shell, bed liner and power bars inside!  Drives like a dream!  It has a small tear in the drivers seat (can be easily fixed for about $100), a few minor dings, and at some point, prior to me owning it, someone hit the drivers door and they didn't get the paint right, so there is a softball sized area that is flakey ($400).  It is an SLT with power everything and less than 84,000 miles!  I bought it to camp and things on my farm but am moving back to the city.  It's too much truck for my day to day life.  To my knowledge, the truck has never been used to pull anything besides maybe a small trailer or camper.  The elderly man I purchased it from was a surveyor and used it for work.  It shows an accident on the car fax, had something to do with the drivers door, but that's it.

GM will no longer remove parts from trucks to calculate curb weights

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 14:14:00 EST

Following last week's mild uproar after it was discovered that Ford and General Motors were removing some optional parts from their pickups to lower the curb weight and consequently increase the maximum payload, GM has come out and committed to a base curb weight for its upcoming Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact trucks (although it has yet to publish them) and its current Silverado and Sierra. The company will do the same for its heavy duty offerings, although those numbers have not been finalized yet.
"This will make our curb weight and payload specs more consistent with those of most other truck makers, making it easier for customers to compare vehicles," GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson told Autoblog in an emailed statement.
As GM notes - and as every manufacturer has noted since this story broke - customers still shouldn't take max payload ratings as gospel. Instead, they should refer to their truck's Tire and Load Label, like the one shown at the inset, which will offer detailed information on max payload, specific to their truck.

GM phasing out light-duty 1500-series vans

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 08:44:00 EST

In the market for a fullsize van but don't need a heavy-duty model? You're in the minority, and you're also out of luck. That's because there are barely any more fullsize vans on the market with gross vehicle weight rating of less than 8,500 pounds, the threshold that separates light- and heavy-duty vans.
According to PickupTrucks.com, neither the Ford E-Series, Ram ProMaster, nor Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are available in light-duty versions. Few of the Ford Transit configurations are, either, and now General Motors is discontinuing production of the 1500-series Chevy Express and GMC Savana.
Apparently light-duty versions accounted for just 23 percent of Express sales and only 7 percent of Savanas. Add to that the fact that these 1500 versions were the only ones using the old generation of engines and suspension, and that the Wentzville plant near St. Louis, Missouri, is trying to make room for the next Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups, and the fate of the light-duty GM van was sealed.

2015 GMC Yukon erupts into flames during Anaheim test drive [w/video]

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 13:29:00 EST

A 2015 GMC Yukon burst into flames while on a test drive in Anaheim, CA on Sunday after smoke filled the cabin. Residents of the neighborhood where the driver abandoned the redesigned Yukon reported hearing a series of small explosions (likely the tires, based on the video), according to a report from KTLA and The Los Angeles Times.
No one was injured in the incident, which The Times reports occurred after a possible oil or fluid leak. As you can see in the image above, the Yukon was engulfed in flames, although the Anaheim Fire Department was able to put out the blaze in about 15 minutes.
"We're very lucky that no one got hurt, and it was in an area that... was safe," Lt. Tim Schmidt of the Anaheim Police Department told KTLA reporters. "If there was any place that was going to be safe, it would be this area. It's very open. It worked out for us."
