1964 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop No Reserve on 2040-cars

Year:1964 Mileage:62582
Location:

Bel Air, Maryland, United States

Bel Air, Maryland, United States

Up for auction is this 1964 Thunderbird Hardtop. The car is a great running driver that turns heads where ever it drives. The car is equipped with AC, power windows, power steering, power brakes, deluxe spinner hubcaps, fender skirts, and power drivers seat. This car was until a year ago in storage in a steel barn where the previous owner had purchased new seat foam and covers for all the seats, a new trunk liner kit, new fender skirts, and new front floor pans. These have now all been installed and the floor pans have been welded into the car and the interior was bed lined before re-installation. During this process the vacuum lines were all replaced and the front power window motors were fixed.

The Good: The car has no bondo or body filler in it. It is solid metal all around and with only 62k miles the body does show quite well. The carburetor was recently rebuild and the engine runs great, and the water pump and fan have been replaced and painted. The car runs and drives and brakes well and the power seat, front windows, wipers, and brake lights work. The seats are not ripped and are very soft form the new foam. The tires are good and hold air fine. New letters have been added to the hood. All gauges besides fuel gauge works.

The Bad: The car's rear windows are rusted up and need to be replaced, the trunk did not have pans welded in but merely sheet metal from another Thunderbird, the radio has no wires connecting to the speaker, the AC system is disconnected and compressor has been removed (But is available when purchased), the rear window has some mild scratches on it, the dashboard is cracked in the usually two spots near the defroster, the brakes are original and are very weak currently, the shift lever is worn out and takes some wiggling to get out of park. The power steering pump needs to be rebuilt or replaced soon but it still works. The turn signals were once working but now do not I believe that the flasher need to be replaced and the lighting for the interior does not come on but the headlights do which likely means that the light switch need to be replaced. Gas gauge does not work.

This car would make a fantastic driver as I have used it for the past year and a half or could be easily made into a show car with the fantastic original body that it has. Happy bidding!

As for shipping the car can be driven to the immediate area of about 30 miles from the town of Bel Air further than that and the buyer will need to arrange for a tow truck or pickup service on their own. Immediate deposit of $500 required after sale ends

eBay Find Of The Day: 1988 Saleen Ford Mustang General Tire 21R race car

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

Saleen may be making headlines these days for working on the Tesla Model S, but its history and bread-and-butter is all about the Ford Mustang. The rear-wheel-drive Dearborn pony cars singlehandedly put the company on the map in the '80s. Founder Steve Saleen was already a talented American racing driver when he started the venture, and like many auto industry businesses before him, Saleen went to the track to prove his vehicles' worth. Now, there's a chance to buy one of those early racers on eBay Motors.
Saleen Mustangs raced in the Sports Car Club of America Escort Endurance Championship - a series of multi-hour races meant to challenge man and machine. Ostensibly a showroom stock class, the cars had larger wheels, tuned suspensions and other upgrades that stretched the concept slightly. Saleen found major success though, taking the championship for its class in 1987 and winning the 24 Hours of Mosport consecutively from 1986 through 1988.
According to the seller, Saleen only built eight of these cars, and this one carries the #21R serial number. They all started life as new Mustangs from Ford dealers but were immediately stripped and prepped to go racing. Beyond obvious mods like a roll cage, they featured eight-inch wide wheels in front, an inch of additional track width, stiffer suspension bushings and much more.

Is it time for American carmakers to give up on dual-clutch transmissions? [w/poll]

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Last week, in the midst of Detroit's first days seeking relief in Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code, Automotive News contributor Larry P. Vellequette penned an editorial suggesting that American car companies raise the white flag on dual clutch transmissions and give up on trying to persuade Americans to buy cars fitted with them. Why? Because, Vellequette says, like CVT transmissions, they "just don't sound right or feel right to American drivers." (Note: In the article, it's not clear if Vellequette is arguing against wet-clutch and dry-clutch DCTs or just dry-clutch DCTs, which is what Ford and Chrysler use.) The article goes on to state that Ford and Chrysler have experimented with DCTs and that both consumers and the automotive press haven't exactly given them glowing reviews, despite their quicker shifts and increased fuel efficiency potential compared to torque-converter automatic transmissions.
Autoblog staffers who weighed in on the relevance of DCTs in American cars generally disagreed with the blanket nature of Vellequette's statement that they don't sound or feel right, but admit that their lack of refinement compared to traditional automatics can be an issue for consumers. That's particularly true in workaday cars like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart, both of which have come in for criticism in reviews and owner surveys. From where we sit, the higher-performance orientation of such transmissions doesn't always meld as well with the marching orders of everyday commuters (particularly if drivers haven't been educated as to the transmission's benefits and tradeoffs), and in models not fitted with paddle shifters, it's particularly hard for drivers to use a DCT to its best advantage.
Finally, we also note that DCT tuning is very much an evolving science. For instance, Autoblog editors who objected to dual-clutch tuning in the Dart have more recently found the technology agreeable in the Fiat 500L. Practice makes perfect - or at least more acceptable.

Ford invests $682 million in Edge-producing Canadian facility

Sun, 22 Sep 2013

Ford announced that it's investing $682 million in its Oakville assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, to make it a global manufacturing plant, which the automaker also says secures 2,800 jobs there. Including this injection of cash, Ford has invested over $2 billion in Canada in the last decade, starting with nearly $1 billion for Oakville in 2004, and over $570 million for its Essex Engine Plant in 2010.
The move to make Oakville a global manufacturer of Ford vehicles means, "If consumers suddenly shift their buying habits, we can seamlessly change our production mix without having to idle a plant," says Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas.
Ford says that the latest investment will help it meet North American demand for the Oakville-produced Edge crossover, which is on track this year to beat 2007's US sales record of 130,000 Edges. The Ford Flex and Lincoln MKX and MKT are also manufactured at the plant.
