1931 Ford Model A Truck Hot Rod on 2040-cars

What a great hot rod! I bought this 1931 Ford Model A Pickup truck about 3 years ago. And just have not driven it like I had planned so I’m selling it   I purchased it out of Texas.  This is not a camouflaged flat black hunk of junk rusty turd rat rod that was thrown together!!!   This is a true hot rod stunner.

Although I didn’t do the work to it, it’s a newer build with less than 100 miles since the build was finished. The truck has a nice small block Chevy V8 and an automatic transmission, (looks like a turbo 350 to me, but not sure.)  Lots of money spent on chrome.  The frame has been boxed and channeled so it can handle the power of the Chevy engine.  There’s no question this was a frame up restoration.  It has Mustang II front suspension, custom built 4 link rear suspension, Front disc brakes and rear drums.  It has new wheel Vintiques painted rally wheels with chrome centers and beauty rings. 15-10s in the rear and 14-7s in the front.  The console and interior have been fabricated out of good ol all American steel, as opposed to glass.  Lots and lots of hours and dollars have obviously been put into this build. If  you have ever tried to build one of these things, you know how much work and $$$$$$$ it takes! (kinda like building a barbecue…don’t plan to build and eat on Father’s day!!) The truck is about 90% steel, with the front fenders being fiberglass.  The truck has power brakes with the master cylinder and brake booster being under the floor (clean firewall!!!!).  The wiring  is all new with modern electronics, 12 volt alternator, and  newer style fuse box.

The whole interior (dash, seats, carpet, and door panels), wheels, and tires are like new. The bed is gorgeous Oak with red metal accents and a custom wood box that houses the gas tank.  With flat black paint with custom hand pin striping in cream and red, this truck pops.  The pinstripes compliment the red interior nicely.  A Tan soft top is included in this auction.  I personally think it looks way cooler without it…and way more fun to drive.   It is very easy for one person to take it on and off.  Of course, no hot rod is complete without an “Oogah” horn.  It’s stamped with a Ford Body number of A4700734. I know there’s a way to decode these but not sure how. (not my field of expertise)

There aren’t too many of these trucks around, and this one is a real head turner. Instead of wasting your summer on trying to build a hot rod, pick this up just in time for the show season!!  The newer engine and transmission mean that it has a top speed over 46 mph… ha ha!  (sorry flat head 4 cylinder) and it’s a pure joy to drive. Please don’t plan on flying in and driving to Maryland…the truck might make it but you won’t! These always need “tweaking” so plan to get it and adjust to your liking.  I have driven this truck less than 20 miles in three years…hence I’m selling it.  I have way too many hot rods and projects.  The only things I have noticed, it may need to be serviced,(all fluids properly checked, as it has been sitting for a while)  and I never have liked the shifter, I like to put Lokar shifters in all my hot rods.   Texas clean title reads 1931 Ford PK.  Don’t let this get away!!!!

These horribly misguided front-drive design studies nearly became the Mustang

Fri, 08 Nov 2013

As we eagerly await the unveiling of the all-new sixth-generation Mustang, Ford has been giving us some great information over the past few months showing what has gone into shaping its venerable pony car. As many changes as the Mustang has gone through in its 50 years, though, it appears the fourth-gen model played a decisive and pivotal role in the car's future.
As is part of Mustang lore, the front-wheel drive Ford Probe was originally developed as a next-generation Mustang in the Eighties before cooler heads prevailed. The Blue Oval has just released a handful of images showing how bad things could have been - including a full-scale clay model of a front-wheel-drive Mustang (shown above). Fortunately, the FWD Mustang plan was scrapped and Ford went to work designing a rear-wheel-drive replacement for the Fox Body Mustang, with three design studies making it far enough to become full-scale models. These include the soft "Bruce Jenner" Mustang, the over-the-top "Rambo" Mustang and the middle-ground "Arnold Schwarzenegger" Mustang, which finally became the basis for the 1994 'Stang.
By early 1991, the design language of the fourth-generation Mustang had been worked out, and the rest, they say, is history. Scroll down for the fascinating press release telling the story of the fourth-gen Mustang, and be sure to check out the gallery of horribly misguided sketches and various design studies that were all on the table in the late 1980s.

NHTSA closes Ford F-150 EcoBoost acceleration probe

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Typically when we report on the findings of an investigation from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it's because the government body has discovered a safety issue and prescribed a recall. In this case, however, NHTSA has closed an investigation into a reported performance deficit without ever getting to the recall stage.
The issue revolves around the Ford F-150 - specifically those equipped with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine - of which some 360,000 were built in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 model years. After receiving an initial 95 complaints, NHTSA opened an investigation last May - almost a year ago - into the reported issue of reduced engine power under hard acceleration. The agency has since received a total of 525 such complaints, and Ford itself reported receiving over 4,000.
Together, NHTSA and Ford determined that the problem resulted from cylinders misfiring, an issue itself stemming from water getting into the charge air cooler (CAC) mated to the turbochargers. In particularly humid or rainy conditions, water was found to get into the CAC, causing some of the cylinders to misfire, which in turn triggered the ECU to disable those cylinders in order to protect the catalytic converter from damage.

2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost to hit 45 mpg for $16,445*

Mon, 28 Oct 2013

When Ford first announced its plan to put the 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine under the hood of the 2014 Fiesta, it promised hybrid-like fuel economy without a hybrid-like premium. We're still waiting for official specs on this engine, but thanks to the EPA's fueleconomy.gov website and Ford's retail site, we now know what customers can expect in terms of both fuel economy and price.
All along, Ford has said that it expects the 1.0-liter EcoBoost to get more than 40 miles per gallon on the highway, and now the EPA backs this up with official ratings of 32 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway. These numbers are an increase of two mpg city and four mpg hwy compared to the current fuel-sipping Fiesta (the 1.6 SFE), and it also beats other three-cylinder cars for highway mileage like the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage (44 mpg highway) and 2014 Smart Fortwo (38 mpg highway); the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost is lower than both three-pot rivals, though, in city fuel economy with the Mitsubishi getting 37 mpg city and the Smart rated at 34 mpg city. This model handily beats high-volume small cars like the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Chevy Spark in both city and highway numbers.
As for pricing, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost is offered on both the sedan and hatchback as a $995 option called the SE Manual EcoBoost package, which is aptly named since it's only offered on SE trim-level Fiestas equipped with a manual transmission. Along with the engine, the package also comes with 15-inch steel wheels, regenerative brakes and a decklid spoiler on the sedan. This means the four-door Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost will start at $16,445*, or $17,045* for the hatchback (*not including $795 for destination).
