Up for auction is my 1928 Ford roadster pickup. The car runs & drives great. I've driven it to car shows as far as 200 miles away. The car has a Blackboard Hotrods complete custom chassis. The cab is a mix of original & new sheet metal. The bed was made by Last Refuge Hotrods. The rear end is a 1969 T-bird 9" w/ Auburn Posi unit built by Currie Enterprises. the rear is hung with a triangulated four bar set up & polished aluminum Aldan Eagle coilover shocks. The front end is made up of MT Brakes 39 Lincoln backing plates, Buick polished 45 fin drums with Wilson welding adapters, a So-Cal forged drilled I-beam axle. Posi super slide spring, chrome Pete & Jakes shocks & Hairpin radius rods. The engine is a fresh Chevy 396 built by Paul Williams Motorsports. Built w/ Forged parts to add Nitrous Oxide if you choose. It has a chrome mini starter, custom Lakes style headers w/ baffles, Edelbrock endurashine Air gap manifold, Demon 650cfm carb, MSD Distributor & Coil, finned aluminum Valve covers & air cleaner. The transmission is a Corvette 700R4 rebuilt by Gil's transmission of Bakersfield. it is setup with a Bowtie Overdrives TV Cable setup. The radiator is custom built by Brass Works, The fuel is held by a original Model T with three gallons of storage added to the underside. The Gauges are SW Wings series & a Sun vintage style Tach. Steering is done with a Vega box & the front end has a panhard bar. The paint is Dupont Hot Hues YM166, which looks fairly dark until the sun hits it. The paint has a lot of gold micro flake & really pops in the light. The interior is butterscotch colored ultra-leather & was stitched by Bill Purkiser of Dave's Fabrication in Bakersfield. The Rocket wheels are wrapped with Hurst Radial Cheater slicks in back & firestone radials in the front. It took 3 years of nights & weekends to build this car. It is a total custom one off build. The car is highly detailed & well engineered. It always turns heads, wins shows & gets attention from the magazines. It is very fast & dependable. This is not a roomy car. I am 6' & 240lbs & drive it on fairly long trips but, the car is channeled & leg room is tight. If you are over 6' & like to drive long trips this probably isn't the Hotrod for you. The car is also for sale locally. Buyer is responsible for shipping or Pick up. I will haul to an over sea's shipper (long beach area only)  for a $$$ fee. Good Luck & happy bidding!

Amazon looking to bring Kindle to your next car?

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

Maybe so. The online retailer and digital media monolith recently announced the Amazon Cloud Player, an application for Ford Sync that allows users to stream media from their Amazon Cloud account directly to a Ford vehicle. This foray into automotive technology got the minds at Gigaom.com thinking about what could be next for Amazon. As Kevin Fitchard writes, the logical step is to make audio versions of your Kindle library selections available in your car. As he points out, Amazon has already laid the groundwork for such a move.
Amazon pulled the sheets back on Whispersync for Voice last year. The tech pairs ebooks with an Audible book for a small extra fee, allowing users to either read along with a narrator or switch between audio and text versions on command. Fitchard says it wouldn't be some great leap to apply the same principles to a car, where voice recognition software would allow users to pause or select chapters without ever taking their eyes off of the road.
It all sounds just fine to us, but Amazon hasn't said a thing about such a move. Still, we wouldn't be surprised to see the company come down this road in the near future just the same.

Ford GT40 makes historic return to racing at Goodwood

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

Is there a more iconic, American racecar than the Ford GT40? That may be a discussion for another day (although by all means, tell us how wrong we are in Comments), but this video of heaps of GT40s running in the Goodwood Revival races certainly has us thinking that Ford's Ferrari-killer might just be the best racer the Land Of The Free and Home Of The Brave has ever come up with.
That's completely ignoring the fact that the GT40 was largely developed by Brits using American money, but that's besides the point (there was also a rather brash Texan, who had a big role later in development). The resulting vehicle was dominant, besting the cars of Il Commendatore from 1966 to 1969, although it should be noted that Ford's GT40 was unable to beat Ferrari in its first two Le Mans outings in 1964 and 1965.
Those four years of dominance, which started with Ford sweeping the podium, were enough to establish the GT40's legend. And now, here we are almost 50 years later, celebrating the mid-engined monsters at Goodwood, in their first ever one-make race. Take a look below for the entire video.

2014 Ford F-150 gets CNG option

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Ford is toiling away, installing heavy-duty engine components into select 3.7-liter V6s to allow them to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in addition to gasoline. That's nothing new, but now, Ford has announced that it will offer the 2014 F-150 with this engine configuration, bringing the Blue Oval's total number of CNG/LPG-friendly vehicles up to eight. The F-150 will be the only half-ton pickup on the market that can run on these gases.
Ford will charge $315 per vehicle to equip the optional engine, but the trucks won't be ready to run on the alternative fuels straight from the factory and must be upfitted with additional equipment. A Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier will install a separate fuel system for the compressed gases at a cost of $7,500 to $9,500, depending on fuel tank size. With the right-size tank, the F-150 equipped with the CNG/LPG-prepped engine can go 750 miles on one tank of gas, according to Ford, averaging 23 miles per gallon.
The practice of offering flex-fuel vehicles is gaining momentum as businesses take advantage of cheap gas. CNG can be bought for $2.11/gallon on average (per gasoline equivalent), and sometimes for as little as $1.00 in some parts of the US, Ford states. "With the money saved using CNG, customers could start to see payback on their investment in as little as 24 to 36 months," says Jon Coleman, Ford's fleet sustainability and technology manager. The automaker expects to sell a total of 15,000 CNG/LPG-prepped vehicles in the 2014 model year.
