1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL

The Ford Galaxie is a full size car that was offered by Ford from 1959 through 1974.  The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1959 until 1961 with an emphasis on the appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space race.

This Glacier Blue 2 door sedan Galaxie 500 XL gives you all the styling of yesteryear with the conveniences of ice cold air conditioning, power brakes and power steering.   This car only has one repaint and an amazingly authentic engine compartment housing a 390 V8 powerhouse, bucket seats and center console.  Equipped the way a collector car should be.

The1963 Galaxie 500 XL gives you all the styling cues back when manufacturing cars was about style and character....from the taillights to the grill this Galaxie shouts Space Age.

Ford introduced a group of sporty cars along with its now-famous "Lively Ones" campaign. These models featured the bucket seats and console. The full-size line got a new bucket-seats-and-console known as the "Lively One,".

This 500XL is like it stepped out from a time machine.  It is finished in a pleasing light blue with a classic blue interior.  This example has been extremely well cared for and is ready to drive now, cruise to a car show or use as a daily driver.  The car really is as nice at the photographs show and really isn't anything to note that you will need to repair or do as she is ready to go.  Although, not a frame off restoration or a $100,000 show car but still no excuses need to be made when you pull up at a car show!... She does has a quality paint job and is extremely straight, has great brightwork and interior pieces.  Really a car worth adding to your collection. This car shows very original and very clean and will not disappoint in it looks or drivability.....Again fully equipped with ice cold AC, power steering and power brakes.

Why not stand out from the crowd with this 390 powered V8 500 XL that gives you the best of stylish body cues, power and nostalgia at a fraction of the price of many 60’s cars of the years.  Take a moment and review the photographs and feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions at 818-398-1829.

Motorweek goes retro with '80s hot hatch shootout

Mon, 03 Nov 2014

Motorweek's decades of history on television make it the perfect medium to look back into the automotive past and see how things are different now. It recently added old road test videos to its YouTube channel of the Acura NSX and Toyota Supra, as well as the Ferrari F40. For one of its newest flashback clips, Motorweek has exhumed an affordable five-car challenge of 1986's premiere hot hatches.
By today's standards, this is an eclectic field that features fondly remembered classics like the Volkswagen GTI 16-valve and Acura Integra. However, it also throws in some nearly forgotten contenders like the Dodge Colt Turbo and Ford Escort GT. The angular Toyota Corolla FX16 GT-S rounds out the group.
It's fascinating to watch Motorweek run the quintet through the slalom, down the drag strip and on various roads. What's most striking in this clip is the difference in the definition of a performance car between then and now. With its 16-valve, 1.8-liter four-cylinder, the GTI is the burliest of the contenders with 123 horsepower, but it still takes 8.8 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. By today's standards, that would make it a plain-jane economy car, and not even a particularly quick one.

Ford cleans up painting process with cameras

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

Knowing how the bacon gets made rarely entices us and, in the same vein, the same usually goes for knowing about how new cars get painted. But in both instances, however, quality - or a lack thereof - is instantly obvious. In terms of the latter, Ford is showing off its new paint quality process with 3D Dirt Detection Technology to find imperfections in vehicle paint more easily and more quickly.
This process - being performed on the F-150 SVT Raptor above - uses 16 computer-controlled cameras to create a three-dimensional model (inset) of the vehicle to detect flaws in the paint including dirt particles, which can then be buffed out manually. Ford says this new technology cuts down on time spent looking for paint flaws and gives workers more time to correct those that are discovered.
Currently, Ford only uses its 3D Dirt Detection Technology system at three factories (the Dearborn, MI facility, along with those in Louisville, Kentucky and Valencia, Spain), but it will soon spread to five more plants in North America. Ford has released a video and press release for this innovative and unexpectedly interesting process, both of which are posted below.

Ford using robot drivers to test durability [w/video]

Sun, 16 Jun 2013

In testing the durability of its upcoming fullsize Transit vans, Ford has begun using autonomous robotic technology to pilot vehicles through the punishing courses of its Michigan Proving Grounds test facility. The autonomous tech allows Ford to run more durability tests in a single day than it could with human drivers, as well as create even more challenging tests that wouldn't be safe to run with a human behind the wheel.
The technology being used was developed by Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, and isn't quite like the totally autonomous vehicles being developed by companies like Google and Audi for use out in the real world. Rather, Ford's autonomous test vehicles follow a pre-programmed course and their position is tracked via GPS and cameras that are being monitored from a central control room. Though the route is predetermined, the robotic control module operates the steering, acceleration and braking to keep the vehicle on course as it drives over broken concrete, cobblestones, metal grates, rough gravel, mud pits and oversize speed bumps.
Scroll down to watch the robotic drivers in action, though be warned that you're headed for disappointment if you expect to see a Centurion behind the wheel (nerd alert!). The setup looks more like a Mythbusters experiment than a scene from Battlestar Galactica.
