Up for auction is my 2003 SVT Ford Focus.  This is the 5 door ZX5 version which is a bit harder to find.  I am the second owner of this SVT.   The focus currently has 228,000 miles on it.  These miles are mostly hwy miles as I drive a lot for work.   I have used Synthetic oil for all my oil changes as did the previous owner.   Though the car has high miles it runs great and has a lot of life yet.  This car is stock and was not abused or raced.  Below I will go through some of the pluses and minuses the car has.   Please email me with any questions.  The car is located in Baton Rouge, LA and I can pick up the buyer at either the Baton Rouge or New Orleans airport.   The car is sold with no warranty.   If you want any other pictures just drop me a note.

Body
The paint overall is in very good condition.   As with any car with this mileage it has rock chips on the hood and bumper.  The rear bumper does have an issue with the clear coat peeling.  I have included a picture of the rear bumper for you.  This recently happened and not sure why.  One of the two fog lights has cracks due to a rock.

Engine
The engine runs great.   The Focus will have a fresh oil change for the new buyer.  The timing belt was last changed at 137,400 miles.  It will be due soon at 237,400.   For peace of mind the buyer may want to do it earlier.  I already have all the parts and they will be included with the car.  The only known issue with the engine is a very small coolant leak from the thermostat housing.  Though this is a common Focus issue the housing and thermostat are brand new.   Not sure why this small leak comes and goes.  The water pump was changed at 180,000 miles.

Transmission
There are no issues with the transmission.  The clutch was changed at 180,000 miles.  It is the Getrag 6 speed manual transmission and shifts as it should.  It has the typical Getrag clutch rattle at idle which is just how they are made.

Brakes
Brakes are true.  I put on EBC green pads last year.

Interior
Interior is clean and free from tears.  The seats are clean and in good condition.  The 6 disc cd changer works and it has the subwoofer in the trunk.   Every once in awhile the radio screen dims and then comes back.  All of the steering wheel controls work.  The sunroof works as it should.

Suspension
I replaced all of the shocks and struts around 170,000 miles.  I replaced the originals with the same OEM SVT package.   The tires have 80 % life left and are Kumhos.

Ford readying Ranger-based Everest SUV?

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Way back in August, we showed you a Ford concept for the Australian market called the Everest. Now, we can show you that work on the new Ranger-based SUV is well under way.
At this stage, it's still quite clearly a mule (note the misalignment of the front and rear doors), wearing the Ranger's front end and the rump of Ford's overseas Territory crossover. The wheelbase is shorter than a Ranger, according to our spy photographers, which strikes us as somewhat odd for a more passenger-oriented vehicle. Disc brakes should be fitted at all four corners, while the new SUV, which will almost certainly wear the Everest name, should sport a new rear suspension.
In terms of looks, we're expecting the Everest Concept to inform the appearance of the production model. Naturally, there will also be some interior tweaks, particularly around the dashboard, which is covered in these photos.

Ford EcoBoost successful because of Soviet laser weapons system expert?

Sun, 28 Jul 2013

Mike Kluzner is a man of many talents. Not only is he the software engineer responsible for fuel system diagnostics for Ford globally, he "got his start designing laser weapon systems capable of disabling the navigation systems of enemy satellites" for the former Soviet Union. Quite a résumé, wouldn't you say?
You may be asking yourself the same question that popped into our minds upon reading about Mr. Kluzner: What do laser weapon systems have to do with Ford and its EcoBoost engines? We'll let the man answer himself. "The same process for analyzing key physical relationships works for what we do today in engine combustion, catalyst chemistry and mechanics," says Kluzner. "These are all part of Ford's software engineering expertise." Who are we to argue?
Ford also employs an engineer who previously designed software to detect damage to the heat tiles on the International Space Station, as well as one who's past work involved particle physics, says the automaker in the press release below. David Bell (pictured above right), global boost system controls engineer for Ford, describes the software running EcoBoost as "the secret sauce" that makes the technology work as the driver intends and demands.
