Up for bids is this clean old 1965 ford falcon 2 door hard top. This is a neat old car. These hardtops are getting hard to find. It is a futura. It has a 289 engine in it with a 4 speed top loader transmission and a 9 inch rear end. It did not start out this way but someone made it like they wanted it. It was originally a T code 6 cylinder car. Everything was converted over including the front suspension so all the 6 cylinder stuff is gone. It looks like it had alot of spunk back in its day. It was sat up in the early 90's awaiting a restoration and well you know the so familiar story it never happened. The gentleman I got it from said This was a big 9 inch rear end and a top loader 4 speed out of another later 60's model mustang. He said it had some power at the red light. The body is in good shape considering its age and looks to be original sheetmetal. The body as a whole would need some work but it wouldn't take much to get it ready to repaint. It has a few small spots that will need a little work. This is not a bondo buggy either it looks to be pretty solid. The bottom of the drivers fender will need a little work. All the glass is good except for the windshield and I have another good one to go with it. The interior is all there just needs restoring. The floors look okay. I see a few small holes in the rear ones but I think they could be fixed as is without having to change them out. Thats just my opinion someone thats wants something perfect would probably want them changed out. The truck floor is the same way has a few small spots but nothing to big. The frame, torque boxes, and engine bay are all solid. Overall this is a solid car. The motor will turn over by hand. I have not tried to crank it. It will need the fuel system cleaned, brake work, and whatever else before it is ready to go. It was running when it was sat up. It will most likely run still but will take some work and effort to do so. I have a clear title to it. It is located in Jonesboro Louisiana. I will accept cash in person, certitfied bank check, or bank wire transfer as payment for the car. Ford partnering with MIT, Stanford on autonomous vehicle research
Fri, 24 Jan 2014Ask any car engineer what's the biggest variable in achieving fuel economy targets, and he'll tell you "the driver." If one human can't understand human driving behavior enough to be certain about an innocuous number like miles per gallon, how is an autonomous car supposed to figure out what hundreds of other drivers are going to do in the course of a day? Ford has enlisted the help of Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to find out.
Starting with the automated Fusion Hybrid introduced in December, MIT will be developing algorithms that driverless cars can use to "predict actions of other vehicles and pedestrians" and objects within the three-dimensional map provided by its four LIDAR sensors.
The Stanford team will research how to extend the 'vision' of that LIDAR array beyond obstructions while driving, analogous to the way a driver uses the entire width of a lane to see what's ahead of a larger vehicle in front. Ford says it wants to "provide the vehicle with common sense" as part of its Blueprint for Mobility, preparing for an autonomous world from 2025 and beyond.
Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost sales robust in early going
Tue, 13 May 2014Okay, okay, okay, so I was just a smidge wrong. Those that read my review of the Ford Fiesta with the new 1.0-liter, EcoBoost engine will know that while I really enjoyed the torquey little three-cylinder, I was concerned that Ford's decision to force 1.0-liter owners into a manual transmission, steel wheels and one trim level might hurt sales of the new engine. I was also concerned that the promised 45-mile-per-gallon highway rating wouldn't be enough to tempt buyers into trying an engine that's so far outside of what the general public is use to. My concerns, though, seem to have been for naught.
While not doing a booming business on the triple-equipped Fiesta, Ford is seeing a take rate of four to eight percent per month in the engine's first few months on sale. Now, four to eight percent might not sound like a lot - if, like last year, the Fiesta sells around 71,000 units, there'd be barely 5,600 1.0-liter models on the road. It is also small potatoes relative to the take rate on EcoBoost-equipped vehicles across the Ford range, which US sales analyst Erich Merkle estimates to be roughly 35 to 40 percent of retail sales. Still, according to The Detroit News, the 1.0-liter is getting adopted at roughly the same rate as the sparkling Fiesta ST, which should be a solid indication of just how well this little engine is doing.
The 1.0-liter's success "really speaks volumes, not just to what we're doing with the Fiesta, but with EcoBoost in general," Merkle told Autoblog.
Ford to hack $4k off price of Focus EV amid slow sales
Wed, 10 Jul 2013Between slow sales and a hefty price drop for its nearest rival, the Ford Focus Electric may be looking at a pretty substantial price cut. The Detroit News is reporting that Ford will drop the price of the all-electric by about $4,000 to $35,200 to be more competitive with the Nissan Leaf, which received a big price cut for 2013 down to $28,800.
Ford has already admitted to having low expectations for the car's sales and massive rebates were reported earlier in the year, but there is still no official word from Ford on this matter. The company's consumer site still lists the 2014 model's starting price as $39,200. In addition to the Leaf, the Focus Electric will also have to deal with the lower prices of smaller EVs including the Honda Fit EV, Fiat 500e and the Chevrolet Spark EV.
