A/C cold. Front hubs, water pump, all brake-pads and rotors have been changed. Windshield has a single vertical crack exactly in the middle from top to bottom (I washed the windshield with cold water on a very hot day, oops) it's been that way for years. Small wear spot on the drivers side floor mat at the gas pedal. One rear seat removable headrest was bitten into by the dog. Tires only fair, should be changed. Remote starter with 2 remotes included. Factory hood is aluminum and they nearly all need repaint, was done, but clearcoat on hood should be colour-sanded to remove a few runs. I've always used 100% synthetic oil, and changed oil and filter regularly. Vehicle was imported from the USA, There were just a couple tiny areas of surface rust that were repainted, but no perforation"

This vehicle was purchased used in the USA, and imported into Canada, and registered with the Canadian Registrar of Vehicles, and has the official sticker on the driver's side door. DRL module installed, and works perfectly.

The vehicle is a heavy-duty model, with a small factory lift, which permits easy installation of somewhat bigger tires, should that be desired. The current tires are in only fair, and should be replaced.
Paint: the hoods on these vehicles are made of aluminum, and although never rust, they often have some corrosion, which has been repainted, but the clear-coat has a few runs on the hood only, and could be removed and re-polished. Otherwise there was only a few very tiny areas of surface rust on a fender, about 3 cm in diameter, and a little on the door sills, both sides of the front doors, but NO perforations! Only a little surface rust, that was repainted. Factory steel wheels have been repainted recently. There is a small dent, measuring about 5" (12 cm) on the passenger fender (picture included)
The vehicle was brought into the Ford dealer for a 'lazy shift into Reverse' condition, and was never truly a satisfactory repair - apparently these transmissions are known for this condition, and this is really the only existing defect, although we drive it this way now for years, without incident. It just takes a second or two to shift into reverse, but otherwise the vehicle runs and drives exceedingly well.
The windshield has a single crack, in the center, running from top to bottom, which was entirely my fault, from washing it with very cold water on a very hot day! The crack has been there for a couple years, and is not too visible. The tailgate glass is perfect, but the panel below has a little crack (ALL Ford Explorers in these years have this crack!!)
There is a small lower plastic grille, just below the main front grille, that is missing.
The vehicle has a towing package, with the big 2" receiver, but we have only towed a utility trailer 4' x 8' with it a few times to bring stuff to the recycling depot.
One of the rear seat removable headrests was chewed on by the dog.
The drivers side removable floor mat has a wear spot about and inch (3 cm) in diameter.
Vehicle has a remote starter and 2 remotes are included.
Maintenance: always on 100% synthetic oil, and changed regularly with the filter each time. (has just been changed again)
Brakes: rotors and pads all changed and are in good shape. Stops well, no vibration or grabbing. ABS works (especially evident in snow).
Always starts and runs well, a/c is fine. Front hubs have both been changed, as well as water-pump. One of the rear tail-lights has a tiny crack, but a spare set is available and can be included. A virtually new set of tires, smaller than the current ones is available and they are certified as snow tires (with the 'mountains' on the side-walls)
All in all, a very solid car that always starts and runs well.
Test drive and/or additional pictures upon request.

2015 Ford F-150 [w/videos]

Thu, 02 Oct 2014

To learn more about the all-new 2015 F-150 and get an early read on its potential hero-or-zero status, we flew to the heart of full-size pickup truck country, San Antonio, TX, to spend a day driving, towing and playing in the mud with an assortment of Ford's innovative new trucks.
First, a caveat - while we feel we have a reasonably good handle on the new F-150 after attending this first-drive event, we are far from ready to pass definitive judgment on the success of this radically new rig. Our time in the various models was lamentably limited and we felt rushed. With so much at stake and with so much to talk about and experience, we had zero alone time with the vehicle - there were Ford folks shadowing us at every moment.
And we still don't know everything there is to know about the trucks, as Ford is withholding some of its most crucial numbers, including curb weight data and anticipated EPA fuel economy figures. We don't even have a firm on-sale date. All of this information is typically disclosed - or at least officially estimated - at the time of a new vehicle's first drive. This limits the scope of the judgments we feel comfortable making based on our first encounter.

Watch this lead sled go rallying in Finland

Thu, 19 Jun 2014

Custom cars generally fit into neat little boxes in terms of how they are used. For example, you're unlikely to see a modded Corvette going rock crawling; it's just not what it's made for (though we bet it'd look awesome, for a minute). In the same way, chopped, channeled and customized '50s hot rods aren't really meant to go racing. They look great and go fast, but they are generally more cruisers than sports cars.
However, if this video is any indication, the people of Finland don't adhere in these stereotypes, because this rodder is happy to play in the dirt with his lead sled.
According to the video, the driver is a member of the Ford-Freak Club of Finland, and he clearly knows how to have some fun. Possibly inspired by his country's great rally drivers, he gets the tail way out going around this gently curving gravel track. The stunt is somewhat reminiscent of the stock cars races on the sand at Daytona Beach, and this is probably close to what it sounded like too. Scroll down to watch a very cool Finn getting his hot rod a little dirty.

KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners

Sat, 30 Mar 2013

The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners - in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."
The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.
On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year - those awards disappeared this year - went home without a single accolade.
