Here's a very solid classic that was owned and maintained by an aircraft mechanic that will make a great classic cruiser.  One of the most desirable off road vehicles this Korean and Vietnam War era 3/4 ton 4x4 will power through anything you can throw at it.  These can carry 1.5 tons and pull and additional 1.5 ton trailer.  Geared with 5.89 differentials and hi-low divorced transfer case mated to 4-speed synchromesh transmission this truck is all about getting the job done.  It's factory built with 42" fording capabilities meaning that in stock trim you can cross a 42" deep river.  Add the optional deep fording package and it's rated at 90" deep water.  Be sure to take off the removable hard top and fold down the windshield first.

The electrical system is international military grade 24V electrical sealed against water using aircraft Douglas wiring and connectors.  It has the original engine that runs great and holds 45 psi oil pressure.  All the gauges work and oil, water temp and generator all read in specification.

I rebuilt the carburetor with a military surplus full kit, tested the electrical and replaced the voltage regulator, rebuilt the master cylinder, replaced the spark plugs, points, condenser, changed the oil and added zinc protectant and drained and cleaned the fuel tank.  This truck runs, drives and stops.  Everything works except missing speedo cable.

To build a jeep or FJ40 to this capability would cost over $100,000 and this is way cooler!

Mopar maneuvers into SEMA with a multitude of modified models

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

As the aftermarket and performance arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Mopar has a duty to extract everything from the company's models that it can, and there's no better place to show all of its work off than the annual SEMA Show.
Dodge really gets in on the act this year with several customs to show off different parts of the brand's performance heritage. Perhaps the most interesting among them is the track-prepped Viper ACR Concept (pictured above). It wears a custom body kit to produce even more downforce, thanks in no small part to a monstrous wing at the back. To shed weight, most of the interior is stripped out, as well. Next up, the Challenger T/A Concept takes inspiration from '70s Trans-Am racing in a livery of Sublime Green and matte black paint. The center scoop in the hood keeps the 6.4-liter V8 fed with cool air, and the special's 20-by-9.5-inch matte black wheels keep it planted in the corners.
Also getting the once-over from Mopar is the Charger R/T. It wears the division's body kit, and under the hood, a cold-air intake keeps the 5.7-liter V8 breathing. The suspension is retooled to hold the road better with a coil-over kit, upgraded sway bars and strut tower braces for the front and rear. The company is also showing off a snazzy blue Charger with a mean look. The final Dodge getting work from Mopar is the Dart R/T Concept with bright, O-So-Orange paint and a matte black hood with a scoop hooked directly to the air intake. The performance-oriented design is finished off with a coil-over suspension and big brake kit, as well.

2015 Ford Mustang vs. Camaro and Challenger [w/poll]

Thu, 17 Jul 2014

The horsepower wars are tightening among the Detroit Three, as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger are getting bigger, more powerful, and yes, more fuel efficient.
That came into sharper focus this week as more information was revealed about the most insane Challenger ever - the 707-horsepower Hellcat - followed quickly by Ford's in-depth showcase of the 2015 Mustang in Dearborn.
It's shaping up to be a golden age for enthusiasts, and what's under the hood is becoming more important than ever.

QB says University of Alabama offered him a Corvette to play football

Fri, 16 May 2014

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team could be in some hot water, following a pair of posts on social media.
The first post was sure to raise a few eyebrows on its own. It's an Instagram of sophomore running back Derrick Henry standing in front of his new Dodge Challenger (we're guessing it's an R/T based on the fender stripes). Complete with a custom set of wheels, the image was enough to trigger more than a few questions about where an unemployed student-athlete came up with the money for such a purchase. Now, this could be harmless. Henry, flush with a full-ride to Bama could have convinced his parents to get him something nice with his college fund.
The second post, though, is a straight-up accusation. It comes from former West Virginia Mountaineer and current CFL quarterback Pat White, who posted the following on his Facebook page.
