1970 Dodge Challenger R/t Convertible on 2040-cars

Year:1970 Mileage:6
Location:

New Baltimore, Michigan, United States

New Baltimore, Michigan, United States

Up for auction is one of the most nicely restored 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertibles in existence.  It was restored professionally to factory specs.  The way you see it is the way it rolled off the assembly line back in January 1970.

It has its numbers matching 383 engine which was restored to factory specs and ran on a dyno before installed.  The transmission was completely torn down, detailed and completely rebuilt to factory specs.  The 8 3/4 rear end was also torn down and rebuilt.  The housing was chemically dipped to remove all of the junk in the housing.  The center section was cleaned, detailed and completely rebuilt with new clutches and bearings.

The interior has been completely restored.  The seat frames were media blasted and painted.  Then new seat foams and covers were installed.  The gauge cluster was completely restored by Auto Instruments.  The door and rear interior panels were recovered by Just Dashes as well as the dash pad.  The heater control panel is new so it has the correct chrome detail vs. the silver paint pen most use.  The radio is a new reproduction that looks original on the outside (also with the correct chrome detail) but is new on the inside with IPOD and blue tooth capabilities.  All of the seat belts are new as well as the correct consol.  The dash frame and steering column were painted with NOS correct suede paint.

All of the convertible top components are new including: power top pump, both cylinders, and all of the plastic lines.  Top was professionally installed and looks great.  The frame was media blasted and repainted the correct shade of satin black.  Correct new satin chrome latched and receivers were installed.

The front suspension was completely detailed using cosmoline on the upper and lower control arms.  All front suspension parts were detailed and coated with RPM (rust preventative magic sold by ECS Automotive).

The exhaust was purchased from Accurate Exhaust.  It is one step louder than factory and has a perfect tone for a convertible.

The engine compartment is completely detailed with the correct radiator restored by Ray’s Radiator and a date coded carbureted restored by Scott Smith (Harms Auto).

I can write a book on this car.  To sum it up everything on this car was touched CORRECTLY.  What needed to be plated was plated correctly, not sprayed with metal color aerosol paint cans.

We only use the best vendors on our restorations.  This car was not built with the intensions of selling it.  This is an investment piece that just happens to be but on the market for personal reasons.  This is not a car that has been put back together with old repainted cleaned up parts.  Everything on this car was restored to new condition or replaced with new quality reproduction parts.

We only restore Mopar’s.  It is what we specialize in and all we do.  This is a gorgeous car and we guarantee you will be happy with it.  You can see 271 pictures of this Challenger on our site afterhoursrestorations.com.  We are only interested in positive transactions.  If for any reason you are not happy with this car at time of pick up the sale will be void and all funds will be returned no questions asked.

Feel free to have the car inspected.  The car is on a platform hoist so it can be inspected front to back, inside and out.

Seller reserves the right to end auction early because car is for sale locally.  Please ask questions.

Dodge Viper to out-Hell the Hellcat with supercharged V10?

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

The Viper wouldn't be the Viper if it wasn't the most powerful model under the Chrysler umbrella. But with the arrival of the Hellcat engine in the Dodge Charger and Challenger, the Viper has fallen behind in the bragging rights department: where the new supercharged V8 produces 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated V10 offers "only" 640 hp and 600 lb-ft - gargantuan output figures by almost any other standard, but crucially behind on the SRT power scale. Conner Avenue is going to have to do something about that.
Although the Hellcat's engine reportedly won't fit under the Viper's hood, SRT is now rumored to have another trick up its sleeve: supercharge the existing V10. According to the Pentastar performance enthusiasts at allpar.com, Chrysler has already taken delivery of the first such prototype engines so that it can begin the process of fitting it into an upgraded Viper.
The spooled ten-pot is tipped to produce around 800 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. More than that and the Viper's drivetrain, chassis and bodywork would have to be substantially reworked. Though beefier transmissions are available, fitting them would reportedly set off a domino-game of changes required to handle the added torque. Which may be something Chrysler would be prepared to do for the next-generation model, but in the meantime, 800 hp could prove enough to put the Viper back atop the Mopar performance ladder where it belongs, and give it an edge against the new Corvette Z06 to rekindle sales.

2013 Dodge Dart gets all Moparized

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

Last year, Chrysler announced it would be offering more than 150 Mopar parts and accessories on the 2013 Dodge Dart, and we got a look at some of these parts firsthand at the Chicago Auto Show. Showing off all the optional parts at once would surely create a gaudy monstrosity, so Chrysler chose to equip this particular Dart GT with just a handful of Mopar goodies, which still gave the car a nice and tasteful custom look that is available straight from the dealership (and with a full warranty, too).
Decked out in a factory color called Header Orange Clear Coat - also a very appropriate show car hue - this car added exterior styling parts such as the vented, carbon fiber hood, the bolt-on front chin spoiler and a matte black decklid spoiler. Looking inside the car, you'd think the red-accented interior is part of the Mopar parts bin, too, but this is actually what the standard Dart GT cabin will look like when it goes on sale.

Mopar maneuvers into SEMA with a multitude of modified models

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

As the aftermarket and performance arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Mopar has a duty to extract everything from the company's models that it can, and there's no better place to show all of its work off than the annual SEMA Show.
Dodge really gets in on the act this year with several customs to show off different parts of the brand's performance heritage. Perhaps the most interesting among them is the track-prepped Viper ACR Concept (pictured above). It wears a custom body kit to produce even more downforce, thanks in no small part to a monstrous wing at the back. To shed weight, most of the interior is stripped out, as well. Next up, the Challenger T/A Concept takes inspiration from '70s Trans-Am racing in a livery of Sublime Green and matte black paint. The center scoop in the hood keeps the 6.4-liter V8 fed with cool air, and the special's 20-by-9.5-inch matte black wheels keep it planted in the corners.
Also getting the once-over from Mopar is the Charger R/T. It wears the division's body kit, and under the hood, a cold-air intake keeps the 5.7-liter V8 breathing. The suspension is retooled to hold the road better with a coil-over kit, upgraded sway bars and strut tower braces for the front and rear. The company is also showing off a snazzy blue Charger with a mean look. The final Dodge getting work from Mopar is the Dart R/T Concept with bright, O-So-Orange paint and a matte black hood with a scoop hooked directly to the air intake. The performance-oriented design is finished off with a coil-over suspension and big brake kit, as well.
