This could be either a great project car if you can do the needed repairs or it can be a great parts car if you have your own 1998 Sebring that needs some newer parts.
I've driven this car daily for about three years. The engine starts and runs smoothly and the transmission seems to shift smoothly as well. If I could do most of the necessary work myself I would definitely keep the car, but paying a repair shop to do the work would be fairly expensive. This car is fully drivable as is.
Here's what I've been told is needed:
- Valve cover gaskets
- Electronic Control Module in the steering column that controls the windshield wipers, turn signals, high beams, etc. The turn signals work, the wipers work, but the high beams cannot be turned off. Also when you use the right turn signal the intermittent wiper function engages.
- Upper and lower ball joints and control arm on the driver's side.
- New passenger side headlight assembly. I don't remember the exact reason, but the bulb does not light fully.
- A new connector for the rear defogger. I'm told its common for these to come off due to the movement of the glass when the top goes up and down.
- There are also two spots where rust is starting to appear. The rear passenger side quarter panel and the bottom of the driver's side door.
- The front leather seats cushions are ripped from 15 years of normal use.
Now for the positives:
- As mentioned earlier the car starts and the engine runs smoothly. I've had oil changes done about around every 3k miles.
- The transmission appears to be in fine working order.
- The convertible top works perfectly and has no leaks. It is a cloth top that was installed in 2010 and looks like new.
- Timing belt and water pump replace at 131k miles.
- Power windows and door locks all work
- Radio, Cassette player and 6-CD changer work perfectly.
- Power steering works fine with no leaks.
- All brake line tubing and rear brakes were replaced in 2011, including rotors
- The alternator was replaced in 2011
- A new fuel pump was installed in December 2012.
- New tires in 2010. Approximately 25k miles on them.

Fiat Chrysler's London offices will be small, with financial focus
Tue, 20 May 2014Fiat Chrysler's decision to locate its new corporate headquarters in jolly old London won't herald a sprawling relocation effort. Instead, it's very likely that the FCA outfit will be a small one, primarily focused on finance.
The report comes from Automotive News Europe, which claims FCA's London office will employ about 50 people with backgrounds in finance. CEO Sergio Marchionne and Fiat Group Chairman John Elkann will both have offices at the corporate headquarters, as well.
ANE cites an anonymous source that claims the people employed at the London office will focus primarily on treasury operations. It's unlikely that FCA will take on any additional employees specifically for its UK offices. That said, FCA isn't likely to downsize either its Turin or Auburn Hills offices once London comes online.
Dodge offering novel 1-year lease on '14 Challenger and Charger models
Mon, 14 Apr 2014Dodge is just days away from unveiling refreshed versions of the Charger and Challenger at the 2014 New York Auto Show, models promising updated styling and new powertrain options. Depending on how you look at it, the company is either so confident in its forthcoming 2015 models that it's offering an interesting Double-Up lease deal on the current vehicles, or it's so eager to clear out existing stock that it's resorting to novel lease deals. In any case, what they present is an interesting scenario, one which allows buyers to get the existing model right now, and then trade up to the facelifted 2015 models in one year.
Starting April 17, when the refreshed cars debut through the end of August, buyers can lease a 2014 Charger or Challenger for one year and exchange it for a three-year lease on a 2015 model next year, with no additional money down and the same monthly payment. Customers can even switch vehicles when the new lease starts. If drivers want to buy the '15, they get $1,000 off the purchase price. To be eligible, both leases must use the same dealership and be financed through Chrysler Capital. The Double-Up deal excludes the SRT versions of both cars and Charger SE models.
To offset the flood of one-year-old models coming back to dealerships, Dodge has struck a deal with rental car agency Enterprise, which has agreed to buy them all. "One-year leases are highly unusual in the industry," said company spokesperson Ralph Kisiel, and the fleet sale deal is what makes it possible.
Chrysler patents smarter minivan folding seats
Thu, 02 Jan 2014It's frightening to think of how quickly the mice would have overtaken us if we hadn't stayed one step ahead of them with better mousetraps. We'll never have to worry about that in our relentlessly re-engineered world, though. Case in point: Chrysler has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office for an improved design of the already wondrous Stow 'n' Go seating found in the automaker's Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.
Introduced in 2005, the Stow 'n' Go was improved in 2008, and based on the drawings of this third-generation improvement, the new design appears to allow stowage of the second row of seats without having to move the front-row seats forward as much. It look like it also involves fewer operations and moving parts, with a portion of the seatback being incorporated into the flat floor when the seats are stowed, as opposed to having a completely separate cover.
It's possible that the innovation may appear on the next-generation minivans expected in 2015, but Chrysler isn't commenting on the patent.
