1973 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham

23K original miles

Heavily optioned

Up for bids here on eBay is this time-capsule Chrysler New Yorker.  This car was bought new in Fallon Nevada and has had 2 owners since new.  Always garaged, pampered and with only 23,360 miles, this Chrysler is incredibly well preserved.  New Yorkers were built for the luxury car segment, this car was ordered with even more options such as air conditioning, power windows, seat and door locks, cruise control, tilt-tele "rim blow" wheel and tinted glass.

Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page.

Finished in "Forest Green Metallic", this New Yorker has all original paint from top to bottom.  Having original paint elimates a lot of guesswork about a car's past, what you see if what you get and you won't find any rust problems on this car.  The paint finish has hung in there pretty well after 41 years, a cut and polish could bring it up a level but as a whole it's very presentable.  You'll find a few touched up chips and a few small dings here and there.  The car's biggest flaw is a touched in scrape on the passenger side fender.  There are no rust issues anywhere on the car, it's 100% solid with no problems.  Tires are new Kumhos all the way around.

All of the car's trim is in excellent original condition.  Both bumpers are terrific, the original chrome still shines like new.

All 4 headlights are original, all lenses on the car look great.  Grill is in great shape.  The 4th photo below shows the scrape on the passenger side fender.

All of the glass is original, including the windshield.  It's all in excellent shape with no hard water spotting or chips, the view out from the windshield is crystal clear.  The vinyl top looks like new, it still has perfect fit and finish with no shrinking and zero bubbling or lifting from underneath.

The 1st photo below shows how the paint comes alive in direct sunlight.
The giant trunk holds 4 golf bags with ease.  Spare tire and jacking equipment are unused.

Day-One details abound throughout the trunk, they tell the story of this time warp survivor.

The interior is a trip back to 1973, if green's your favorite color this is the car for you.  Carpets, dash, upholstery - all like new.

All instruments, switches and dials work correctly with the exception of the power antenna.  The car has working cruise control and the A/C system was recently converted to the R-134a standard.  It works flawlessly and blows ice cold.

The car comes with the original owners manual and service receipts from both owners.  Door panels are in excellent condition, power windows all work swiftly, 6 way power seat works in all directions.

Rear door panels and sill plates are just like the front - terrific.

Back seat area looks like new, rear parcel shelf is perfect with no sun damage.

Tight and clean headliner with no flaws.  Shown between the sunvisors is the very latest in 1970's GPS technology.  Dash pad is in great shape.

Clean and correct underdash area with nothing altered.  Door jambs are all very clean, weatherstripping is original and in fantastic shape.

The steering wheel has a crack at 12 and 6, rim blow function for the horn works correctly.  All ashtrays and lighters are unused.  Power door locks work correctly.

The 440 motor starts easily and offers Hand of God performance, this is a very nice running car.  The car runs down the road like new, there's no substitute for a low mile original.  Turn the key, stretch out, flip on the A/C and fingertip steer this land yacht to the horizon.

Lots of original details throughout the engine bay.

The 440 is fueled by the mighty Thermo-Quad carburetor.  Valve covers still show original assembly line markings.  Core support decals are all in place.

The undercarriage is solid and original with no signs of damage.  New exhaust from the manifolds back.  The car has has recent brake work and a full tune up, it's ready to hit the open road.

Fiat ups Chrysler stake by 3.3%, inches closer to full control

Mon, 08 Jul 2013

Fiat is one step closer to completing a merger with Chrysler after exercising an option to acquire an additional 3.3 percent of the Auburn Hills-based automaker today. Automotive News reports that Fiat now controls 68.49-percent of Chrysler, which is up almost 10 percent since we last heard news of this deal back in February when Fiat talking to various banks to raise more capital in order to complete the acquisition.
The article says that Fiat is still able to increase its stake in Chrysler up to 75 percent over the next 12 months, but it sounds like CEO Sergio Marchinonne would rather purchase the remaining shares from VEBA - the retiree benefits trust - sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, the two sides still seem far from an agreement on a fair price for the rest of Chrysler, as Fiat has them valued at $4.2 billion compared to the $10.3 billion estimate from the unions that currently own the remaining stake in Chrysler.

Chrysler releases Born Maker ad campaign for 2015 200 [w/video]

Fri, 06 Jun 2014

"The 200 sets the benchmark, for us, on how we plan to develop cars going forward." - Marissa Hunter
Is the 2015 Chrysler 200 the most important new product for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles? While it is certainly debatable, we'd be strongly inclined to say "yes." As the first competent midsize sedan that Chrysler has released in the better part of two decades, the new 200 is absolutely crucial to achieving the brand's goal of becoming FCA's "mainstream" manufacturer.

180,000 new vehicles are sitting, derailed by lack of transport trains

Wed, 21 May 2014

If you're planning on buying a new car in the next month or so, you might want to pick from what's on the lot, because there could be a long wait for new vehicles from the factory. Locomotives continue to be in short supply in North America, and that's causing major delays for automakers trying to move assembled cars.
According to The Detroit News, there are about 180,000 new vehicles waiting to be transported by rail in North America at the moment. In a normal year, it would be about 69,000. The complications have been industry-wide. Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Ford all reported experiencing some delays, and Chrysler recently had hundreds of minivans sitting on the Detroit waterfront waiting to be shipped out.
The problem is twofold for automakers. First, the fracking boom in the Bakken oil field in the Plains and Canada is monopolizing many locomotives. Second, the long, harsh winter is still causing major delays in freight train travel. The bad weather forced trains to slow down and carry less weight, which caused a backup of goods to transport. The auto companies resorted to moving some vehicles by truck, which was a less efficient but necessary option.
