Frank Sinatra Edition Offered At No Reserve on 2040-cars

Year:1981 Mileage:80046
Location:

San Diego, California, United States

San Diego, California, United States

This car runs, shifts and drives wonderfully (less
than 200 miles on rebuilt engine) and looks great
from a distance but (in the spirit of honesty and
"full disclosure") less so when you get close:
it has a number of tiny dents and dings (really
could use new paint but as a driver it's just fine).
and there are a couple of interior cigarette burns
(I'm told the gentleman who owned it previously
was the original owner, a mechanic who was rather
careless with his belongings especially when he had
beer in his belly).  Other little issues include a radio
antenna doesn't go up and down automatically as it's
supposed to (aftermarket AM/FM radio/casette player
works fine), headlight doors are stuck open, seat-motors
not fully operational (but can be partially adjusted; I'm
6'1" and totally comfortable in the driver's seat), all the
necessary instrument panel displays light up (but some don't
switch to the alternative settings, i. e. from gallons to litres,
etc).  I was told by the gentleman who handled the sale that
the car had a little less than 50,000 miles on when it was
converted from fuel injection to carburation at which point
the ODO's are zeroed-out; it's showing 80000 miles now.

But ... in the final analysis this car IS a very rare Sinatra edition,
of which Barrett-Jackson has said there are less than 35 left licensed
in the U. S. thus this model is not only rare it's a true classic ... so if
you love these cars and are good w/your hands this car will help you
pass many enjoyable hours puttering and fixing and/or many more great hours
behind the wheel driving it as is.  One more thing, with the engine rebuild it has
smogged twice here in California (which means it'll smog anywhere it has to).

So I'm leaving it to you Imperial afficionados to determine the
car's value by offering it at true No Reserve, pehraps one of the
last chances ever to own a Sinatra this decent for a great price
Granted this car may not be the handsomest guy in the class but
he sure can run!

Car is being sold as-is-where-is.  Buyer is responsible for
shipping from San Diego to your location.  $500 deposit
payable to ebay w/in 24 hours of completing purchase,
balance due within 48 hours after that.

NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.

This forgotten Chrysler was its bid for Humvee contract

Wed, 27 Aug 2014

Today, the Humvee might be as associated with the dead automotive brand from General Motors as it is with the hard-working truck that has long served as one of the backbone vehicles of America's military. But Autoline host John McElroy is showing off a practically unknown part of the model's story by digging out some old photos from his personal archive.
The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle project, better known today as the Humvee, can be traced back to a US Department of Defense request for bids to build a new military truck. According to McElroy, he was invited to the Chrysler proving grounds in 1981 to check out the bid from the brand's defense division. The company's concept was that it might be able to build an inexpensive, capable vehicle by using off-the-shelf parts.
The angular body panels gave the truck a look almost like a modern, stealth vehicle. However, the flat look was actually just to make the tooling as cheap as possible to produce. Still, this Chrysler looked surprisingly futuristic for the early '80s. It's actually not too far away from the famous Lamborghini LM002, itself intended as a possible military-spec machine.

SRT reveals Satin Vapor Edition 300, Charger and Challenger SRT models

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

With the exception of some notable truck and van introductions, Chrysler brands have tended to use the Chicago Auto Show to bring out new special editions, pimp their aftermarket parts support or indulge in the occasional flight of fancy. That plan is holding true for 2014, as well. Cases in point are these new Satin Vapor Editions of the 2014-model-year Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 - all from SRT.
The Satin Vapor name may sound like a failed 1970s glam-rock band, or a pseudo-gynecological diagnosis from the Old West, but is, in fact, pretty much a tape-and-trim package for this trio of hi-po Mopars. 300, Challenger and Charger alike come shod with 20-inch aluminum wheels finished in Black Satin Vapor Chrome, and are accented with Satin Black bits aplenty. The 300 gets blacked-out mirrors, spoiler and roof; the Challenger applies it to mirrors and its fuel door; while the Charger has the stuff covering its roof, hood and Super Bee tail graphic.
Interiors of the cars have been mildly updated as well, with all three getting some combination of Nappa leather, ultra-suede and carbon-fiberish finishes.
