Rare opportunity to purchase a garaged, and well maintained 99 Tahoe. This vehicle was originally owned by a local Rural Volunteer FD and was used as the Chief's vehicle. It has a number of upgrades including: Heavy Duty Cooling (Radiator replaced last year due to crack in outlet), 100 AMP Alternator rebuilt approx 2 years ago, Transcooler. It has a number of other custom upgrades as shown in the photos. American Racing Alum. Slot wheels, Heavy Duty Chromed Push Bar with Hella Driving Lights, Cab Visor, Westin, Platimum series side bars/Steps, Full Custom Cat-back Flowmaster dual exhaust with Stainless outlets. No Accidents, Excellent Body, Excellent Interior. This truck runs well, shifts well 4wd system works perfectly, it tracks well and is comfortable and practical since the back seats fold down. We have owned the vehicle since the FD sold it and like it a lot. It was used as a spare vehicle and on weekends, and has been great, however I am getting a company vehicle and therefore have no further need of an additional vehicle. I build street rods and so am pretty knowledgeable around cars. This engine/trans combo is pretty well bullet proof. Additional new parts: 160 degree thermostat with new radiator. We thought we had a frozen power steering pump last winter, so the pump and steering box are brand new. Turned out to be a steering feedback sensor in the column. Tires are about 60% left on tread. No warning lights, engine runs 40lbs oil pressure wen warm, no leaks, no oil use at all, engine is tight. Vehicle is registered licensed and inspected in NJ until middle of next year. Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war
Sun, 30 Dec 2012A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing
Mon, 29 Jul 2013General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.
