This 1986 Chevrolet Suburban with the Silverado package has an equalizing trailer hitch and extra-heavy suspension for towing a heavy trailer.

The vehicle is in good running condition and has near-new tires.  It was overhauled by the local dealership last year, and has no serious mechanical problems.  The hauling capabilities of this machine are awesome!  We've used it to move everything from huge loaded haywagons to a very heavy 26 foot vintage travel trailer - with the cargo area loaded, 6 people on board, and a canoe strapped to the roof - with excellent results.  The non-slip differential makes it great for muddy/snowy conditions.

As one should expect on a vehicle of this age, there is some deterioration and minor niggling faults; but nothing that really restricts the usefulness of the vehicle.  There is some hesitation and tendency to stall, reflecting the need for carb work - something the dealer (who obviously only uses Chevy-supplied parts) couldn't address.  There has been some body work on the lower fenders/rocker panels, needed to pass PA inspection.  The finish on the roof is peeling, and shows some surface rust through the primer we used last season.  The driver's seat back has worn thin, there's a couple of tears in the headliner,  and the passenger door lock sometimes has to be opened manually.

Routine gas mileage isn't as bad as one might expect; 12 mpg seems to be about the norm.  It's got a big gas tank, which does negate the need for frequent refilling.  The engine performs far cleaner - and better - if one uses a higher grade in the tank.

Camaro spy shots show subtly different grille, front fascia

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

It looks like there some changes in store for the Chevrolet Camaro - the only thing is that we just don't know what Chevy has up its sleeve. Looking at these spy shots, we'd initially be inclined to think that there is just a minor facelift or a new special edition, but upon closer inspection, there are a few oddities about this car that definitely have us intrigued.
The most obvious difference on this prototype is the slightly restyled front fascia with a smaller lower air inlet and the two-bar grille. Then we get to some of the car's mysterious details. For starters, this fascia has the SS vent above the grille, but it looks to be blocked off. Granted this could just be a one-off piece used for testing. What really piqued our interest was at the rear of the car where it has quad exhaust outlets that are used on the ZL1. Could this be the LS7-powered Camaro that we reported on back in December?
At this point, your guess is as good as ours as to what we're looking at here, so let us know in the comments what you think this could be.

Chevy rolls out Silverado HD High Country

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

It's been a good week for heavy-duty truck buyers. First, Ram revealed the Black Package for its HD trucks, then it rolled out its new Power Wagon, and now Chevy's getting in on the action with its Silverado High Country HD. Okay, so it may not pack quite the attitude of Ram's latest 2500-series offerings, but the High Country HD will come as a welcome addition to the Chevy Trucks range to those looking to pull their horse, boat or other trailer without skimping on creature comforts.
Rolled out a little under a year ago, the High Country trim is Chevy's answer to the likes of the GMC Denali, Ford King Ranch and Ram Longhorn. It has until now only been offered on the light duty, 1500-series Silverado, but now extends to the 2500 and 3500-series HD models, as well.
So what sets a High Country pickup apart from lesser Chevy trucks? You'll be able to pick it out based on its chrome horizontal grille, body-color bumpers, 6-inch tubular side steps, 20-inch chrome wheels (18-inch on the 3500 and 17-inch on the dualie) and, of course, plenty of special badging. But it's inside where the High Country makes its mark, with a cabin decked out in saddle brown perforated leather, seats that are both heated and cooled, eight-inch touchscreen with full MyLink suite, Bose audio and park assist functions front and rear to keep those color-keyed bumpers looking fresh. (Though Chevy hasn't yet showed us the interior of the HD model, it'll presumably look mostly the same as the cab in the 1500 High Country in the gallery below.)
