Up for auction is a SUPER DEPENDABLE 1993 S10 King Cab Pickup. It shows 199,700 miles but the person I bought it from said it has had a motor replacement. I can tell you that it never smokes, never over heats, never rattles or makes any other noises. At a 3,000 mile oil change the oil is clean and the valve train, visible through the valve cover oil fill, is super clean. The bare surfaces of the motor are very clean and not oily. It gets 24-25 MPG and doesn't use any oil at all between fill ups. It has a Sony CD player with 6x9 speakers in panels where the jump seats used to be. It has the following new parts:

New Radiator and Cap

New Coolant Reservoir Cap

Cooling system was flushed when radiator was replaced

New Headliner

New rear window rubber

New King Cab window hardware (The screws, seals, washers, etc that holds the pop out windows in place)

New Chrome Grille

New front side marker lights

New Taillights

New Aluminum fender trim

New muffler and tailpipe

New defroster/heater blower motor

New AC Compressor clutch and relay

New fuel pump relay 10 months ago

AC Just serviced and charged by an ASC Certified AC Technician

Cooper tires have about half their life left

The only rust on the truck is in the left lower cab corner (SEE PIC), a rock chip that was left untouched-up on the right side and some rubbing associated with a plastic bedliner that was once in place. (A roll in or spray in bed liner would make the bed perfect.) It has some dings and flaws but its priced right and will get you where you're going and back again.

This is a really sound truck that I drive everyday. It never fails to start even in cold months, everything on the truck works. No strange drivetrain noises. Window regulators roll up and down fine, doors lock as they should. The floor pans are as clean as the top of the truck. No signs of collision or repair anywhere top or bottom. I can be reached at 423-823-2111, my name is Bryan. I reserve the right to end the auction as the truck is for sale locally and wearing a "FOR SALE" sign.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

Survey says $25k barrier is a problem for EVs

Sun, 01 Dec 2013

The majority of consumers are more or less priced out of the market.
Electric cars are gaining popularity with the general public, but are they still too expensive? According to a survey 1,084 consumers by Navigant Research, a consulting firm located in Boulder, CO, 71 percent want their next car to cost under $25,000, while 41 percent won't go a cent above $20K. Looks like people are even thriftier than we'd originally thought.

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
