1955 Chevy Big Window Shop Truck

Selling my 1955 Chevy shop truck to start some new projects. This truck has been driven for 2 + years now and is a fun truck to drive. If your looking for a plush comfy truck this isn't it. It is built as a nice driver. The frame has been fully boxed (except for under the cab) A mustang II suspension was installed with tubular a-arms and dropped spindles. It has manual rack and pinion steering that is connected to a hot rod column with a quick release hub. An 18" Bell 4 spoke steering wheel makes it feel like you have power steering. The brakes are 11" GM in the front and stock Nova drums in the rear. It has a Wilwood dual master cylinder mounted under the floor to the factory pedal. The rear is a 68-73 Nova rear axle with the factory 3:08 gear. The axle has been flipped on top of the original leaf springs and have installed a 10" C-notch so you could air bag in future (can't get rear any lower with current wheel and tire combo) The wheels and tires are all brand new from Coker Tire. The wheels are the hot rod steel wheels 16" with 47-53 Chevy hubcaps and the tires are Firestone Biasply. Fronts are 600-16 and Rears are 750-16. The drive train is a 350 Chevy from a 79 police car. The transmission is a combination of an 85 Camaro 5 Speed with an 92 S-10 tailshaft. It was made this way so a bench seat could still be used. The exhaust consist of hugger headers with a 2-1/2" straight pipe exhaust existing under the bed in front of the rear tires. There are no mufflers just straight pipes. It is loud and has a good sound to it. The is Stewart Warner oil pressure and temperature gauges mounted under the dash. The original gauges are in it but not hooked up. A new aluminum radiator was installed about 2 months ago. The truck has recently been painted with a fauxtina paint job. The truck has the typical rust areas that could be fixed if you chose. I like it how it is. The floor would need patch work around the transmission and master cylinder opening. There are many sheet metal replacement parts available reasonably for this truck. This truck is great on gas mileage with the 5 speed and rear axle gearing. I can drive 75 on the highway in 4th gear at 2000 rpm or shift to 5th and be just under a 1000 rpm. The wiring is as when I first got the truck and is all wired from the ignition switch but will give you a 9+3 complete wiring harness and fuse panel with the truck.

I've described this truck to the best of my ability please review the pictures of the build for more information.

You can see pictures of the entire build of this truck at my Thompson's Garage facebook page. Look for the album 1955 Chevy

I am selling this truck as is with no warranty implied. Please read the description and ask any questions before bidding.

A $1000 non refundable deposit is due 48 hours from auction end.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.

General Motors shaking up its marketing... again

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

One of the things that dogs the full comeback of General Motors is the instability of its marketing. That part of the automaker got yet another big shakeup today when GM confirmed what I have been tweeting for a few days - strong rumors that the Chevrolet and Cadillac ad accounts are walking to new ad agencies.
Cadillac, GM's luxury brand, is going into review from Fallon Worldwide, Minneapolis and the indications are that Campbell-Ewald, Chevy's old ad shop, will end up with most or all of it. C-E just announced that it was moving from its long-time home in Warren, MI to a new downtown Detroit office next to Ford Field, just blocks from GM.
The other shoe to drop shortly will be the shift of GM's most important brand, Chevy, from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners of San Francisco to McCann-Erickson of Troy, MI. McCann used to be the agency for Buick and GMC, as well as GM's corporate advertising, and has retained some pieces of business over the last few years. Sources have even told us that it was McCann that did a lot of the creative work on Chevy's new ad platform, Find New Roads. (Not to be confused with a former McCann tagline for Saab, "Find Your Own Road.")

Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

Despite the fact that the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a fun, plucky little thing - especially in ever-so-slightly hotter RS guise - it is not, in fact, a skateboard. But don't tell that to rapper Theophilus London.
In General Motors' latest spot for the Chevrolet compact, London needs to make a quick run to the store for some milk. And even though, once again, the Sonic is not a skateboard, it ollies, pops and gets air because, you know, it's just so much fun to throw around.
If this video looks familiar to you, it's because this is the full ad that we first got a preview of in Chevy's longer, full-line spot, where the brand's "Find New Roads" tagline was introduced. Scroll down to see this dedicated Sonic spot, along with the older ad, and remember, the Sonic is still - still - not a skateboard.
