1951 Chevrolet Pickup Three-Window 305 V8: Built by Bob at Elco Welding, Venice Cal.

I've known Bob at Elco for years and after helping me fix up a few other Chevys, he built this from scratch. I wanted something simple and period in style, but needed it to also be fast, safe and able to cook on the LA freeways. The truck was on a farm in Bakersfield (with the original running 216 straight six, 6-volt, brake and steering systems) when I had it flat-bedded to Elco.

Details: The engine is a Chev 305 V8 with a Tremec 3550 5 speed transmission, Ford 9-inch rear axle, Toyota power steering, stock front suspension, original ’51 California plates, plus much, much more. All mechanical work professionally done at ELCO Welding in Venice CA over the course of 3 weeks. Bob and Elco were in the news recently after building the world fastest green car, an 800 horse-power 70's BMW.

The truck in just another example of Bob's engineering genius. The time and care put into the mechanical restoration is unmatched.

This daily driver is in great condition, giving me ZERO problems in the 6 years I had it on the road. The paint is good and the interior is clean. I trust this pickup will easily drive coast to coast without any issues. Please email me for additional details or photos.

Truly a one-of-a-kind truck.

Race Recap: 2013 Indianapolis 500 better than Bollywood; all the emotion, none of the music [spoilers]

Mon, 27 May 2013

If the 2013 Indy 500 were a movie it would be the one expected to win all the little statues come awards season, and if it were an athlete it would have made spectators watch in awe as it broke record after record. And this kind of talk comes after last year's race was considered one of the best ever - the last lap hijinks in 2012 and Takuma Sato's crash leading to a podium ceremony straight out of a Golden Globes tearjerker.
But this year's race delivered more than anyone expected, from the 250,000 fans to the commentators to the IndyCar series itself and, finally, to the guy who hopped through a two-mile window on Lap 197 to take the lead and keep it until the end.

Chevy SS prototype spotted wearing Pontiac G8 clothes

Tue, 28 Aug 2012

Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.
Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.

2014 Chevrolet Malibu gets more torque, more room and inspiration from the Impala

Fri, 31 May 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, having stared at the Impala across the showroom floor for a year, gets nips and tucks all over inspired by its larger brother. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder in the base car will get a stop-start system and 23 city miles per gallon, 35 highway, each number representing a one-mpg improvement over the 2013 car. Output is 196 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque.
Opt for the 2.0-liter turbo and, while power holds steady at 259 hp, torque goes up by 14 percent to a striking 295 lb-ft (a figure Chevy calls best in the class). The final details include newly programmed transmission shift points and faster shifts, for better engaging and enjoying the added power.
Looks-wise, the grille's been reshaped to be more in line with the new Chevrolet look, a narrower upper grille hovering over a larger lower grille.
