For sale is a 1951 Chevrolet 3600 3/4 ton pickup, this pickup was built in Oakland, CA according to the VIN.  It was originally a grocery delivery pickup in the town of Crane, Montana, the Crane Market is still visable on the doors.  I bought it in SW North Dakota several years ago as a project but I found an original 50 3/4 ton so am not going to do anything with this one.  I was told the engine was "stuck", when I got into it I found the oil pan was broken from the outside, it looks like something broke the pan and it was driven until the engine seized.  The breather cap was left off and mice built a nest on top of the head causing everything to rust badly.  I have the block, head, crankshaft, and the internal parts but much isn't going to be useable.  The block and head might be useable but I don't know if water was left in the cooling system to freeze.  I also have the 4 speed transmission.  The wheels are 15 inch 8 bolt, these are probably not original to the pickup.  I do have the seat stored inside, it looks like it was redone years ago but no idea if the mice got to it while it was sitting.  There are some other parts missing such as the heater assembly.  I have more pictures if anyone is interested.  I have a North Dakota title for it.  Cash or certified funds only.  Buyer is responsible for shipping.  10% down within 10 days of auction end and balance due when it's picked up.  Buyer needs to pick it up within 30 days after the auction ends.  This is for sale in other locations so if I have a buyer elsewhere and there are no bids I reserve the right to close the auction early.  Any questions ask.

GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.

Mother's Day Suggestion No. 2,506

Thu, 02 May 2013

With Mother's Day coming up, we're always looking for new gift ideas to celebrate the occasion, but hot laps around a track might not be the best suggestion for Darius Khashabi. In a video posted on YouTube, Khashabi straps his mom into the passenger seat of his C6 Corvette Z06 for some laps around Sonoma Raceway (formerly Infineon Raceway) at "60 percent" with comical results.
Now this isn't the first time Mama Khashabi has gotten seat time in her son's car around a track, as his YouTube page shows him pulling a similar stunt - with similar results - around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last year. Scroll down for the video, but know that the action really gets going at around the 1:40 mark.

Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.
