Extremely rare and awesome little car! Although it bears little resemblance to the Nova muscle cars of the previous decades, the 1980s Nova was pretty righteous in its own regard. Built at NUMMI, the joint venture between GM and Toyota, this car has more than a little Toyota Corolla in its DNA. In fact, some people even mod them to be a Corolla (not sure how you explain that to the DMV!).

This particular Nova is special. From 1986-2012, it was owned by one man, a lawyer named Terry who didn't drive it much. He maintained it well, and kept all the records. Finally, he was ready to sell it, and in a small miracle, he put on Craigslist right as we desperately needed a car but couldn't use our credit because we were in the middle of buying a house. We bought the car, and loved it. We fixed the rust spots and the little quirks that Terry hadn't know how to fix. We even named it Terry in honor of the first owner. It got us everywhere we needed to go, and got better gas mileage than a Prius. We dreamed of aftermarket embellishments (a targa roof? why not?), and expected many years to come--after all, it only had 80K miles, and no onboard computers to go bad.

Then, one terrible night in late December, Terry died on the highway and had to be towed home (the car, not the lawyer). We've tried everything we can afford to fix him, but it appears only a distributor can bring him back to life. We cannot afford to put more money into him, so we've made the painful choice to sell this cool, rare car. Is there someone out there who loves NUMMI Novas and/or Corollas? Do you need parts, or can you put a little money in to getting this car going again? We think Terry deserves better than the scrapyard. Feel free to ask us any questions.

PS. Terry the car comes with the dossier of receipts and maintenance records from Terry the lawyer.

Mother's Day Suggestion No. 2,506

Thu, 02 May 2013

With Mother's Day coming up, we're always looking for new gift ideas to celebrate the occasion, but hot laps around a track might not be the best suggestion for Darius Khashabi. In a video posted on YouTube, Khashabi straps his mom into the passenger seat of his C6 Corvette Z06 for some laps around Sonoma Raceway (formerly Infineon Raceway) at "60 percent" with comical results.
Now this isn't the first time Mama Khashabi has gotten seat time in her son's car around a track, as his YouTube page shows him pulling a similar stunt - with similar results - around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last year. Scroll down for the video, but know that the action really gets going at around the 1:40 mark.

Next-gen Chevy Cruze caught cruising in the cold

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Spy photographers have caught what looks like the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze out on snow patrol. The camo could be tricking our eyes, but it look like it has an even tidier, more rounded front end and even lower fenders in relation to the top of the hood. And either a chunk of camo has been wedged between the side mirrors and the doors, or the mirrors are up for revision, too.
The door handles have been moved up the side of the car, leading the way to a rear end that grows a bit in length. If the rumors are true, the coming second-generation Cruze sits on the new D2XX platform that will replace the Delta and Theta platforms at General Motors. A global architecture, the Cruze will be the first to get it, but it will underpin everything from next Chevrolet Volt to the Equinox and could be responsible for 2.5 million units by 2018. The next Cruze is expected to begin production in GM's Lordstown, Ohio plant in the third quarter of 2014.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.
