1966 Chevy Nova II

Fully Restored Barn Find

The Story:  This is believed to be a 1-Owner 72,000 mile Chevy Nova II.   It belonged on an elderly lady in Springfield, MO.    It was rescued from her carport where it sat for 25 years.   When the restoration began the car still had plates from 1989 on it as well as all of the original brakes, wheels and tires and 6 cyl motor and 3 speed transmission.   It was a base model with no power steering or brakes as well as the radio delete.   It was the PERFECT car to restore.   It is the most desired 1966 Chevy Nova II 2 door Hardtop.   And so it Begins...

The Restoration:
The car has always been the Red on Red paint scheme.   When we first got it I wasn't planning on going to the lengths we did to restore it but once we got into it I began to fall in love with the car and wanted to restore it to look better than the day it came off the lot only this time wanted to give it the heart and soul it deserves.  I refused to turn it into a Resto Mod or an LS1 Conversion and ruin what this car is all about.   I wanted to keep it looking just like the 60's with a real American 350 SBC.   I then couldn't help myself as I bought every GM Restoration part that I could find as I completed a nut and bolt restoration.

The Body:  There is no bondo on this car.   It was fairly rust free when I got it but I didn't take any chances and wanted to build a car that would last for another 45 Years.   Everything was GM Restoration parts Including:   New 2 inch Cowl Full Steel Hood, New Fenders, New Doors, New Quarters, New Trunk Lid.   It was finished in GM Victory Red Paint just like the new Corvettes.   Every piece of Chrome was replaced as well:   New Front and Rear Fenders, New Chrome Rockers, New Headlights and Bezels, New Taillights and Trim.  Trunk is Done in the original speckle paint .

The Interior:  Everything you see and touch in the interior is new.   New Headliner, Sun Visors, Rear Cargo Shelf, New Seats in original style pattern, New Carpet, New Door Panels, New Arm Rests, New Cranks, New Dome Light, New Dash Pad, New Instrument Bezel and New Chrome Accessory Bezels, New Rear View Mirror and New Door Mirror, New Ignition and New Keys.  The Beautiful Victory Red Paint was brought inside the car as well on the dash and doors.

The Drivetrain: The Heart and Soul of this car comes from a Brand New rebuilt 350 SBC from a 69 Camaro.   It was completely redone by a local machine shop and comes with a 12 month 12,000 warranty.   It has a street cam to give it that great loping sound.  Believed to pump out 350hp.  New 4 Core V8 Radiator and all new accessories and dress up chrome under the hood.  The Transmission is a TH350 3 speed Automatic matched to the 10 bolt 3:73 Rear End with a Floor Shift B&M Shifter.  The power is put down to the ground to the Cragar Classic 14 inch Wheels.

I don't know what else I could do to this car.  Actually, after spending over $30,000 on the restoration I am out of money and over budget and I am in the middle of doing a 71 Camaro and need to sell this so I can fund that project.

These cars are among the most sought after muscle cars and are becoming very rare.   There were only 4 of them at Barrett Jackson with some bringing over $100,000.

Time for someone to really enjoy this car.

Pics Aplenty: Meet the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Today was a pretty big day for General Motors, debuting the all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickup trucks ahead of their official showcase at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. And now that the dust has settled at GM's big reveal event, we've had a chance to snap dozens of photos of the new pickup pair from every angle.
We already told you the important bits earlier today (click here in case you missed it), but let's recap. Under the hood are three new engines - a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 (you know, a version of the small-block that'll also be found under the hood of the C7 Corvette), all mated to six-speed automatic transmissions. The 2014 model year marks the return of the Z71 off-road package with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and beefier underbody protection. Inside, there's a host of new technology and a greater focus on better quality and refinement.
Some of the nitty-gritty specifics (like engine output numbers and fuel economy) have yet to be revealed, and since we haven't driven the finished products yet, it's hard to say how these trucks will fare against rivals like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150. For now, we can only judge these two books by their covers, and while we do like the designs of the new trucks, we Autoblog staffers are torn on exactly which one looks best.

GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.
