Here you go folks, a 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe! This SS Aerocoupe is a good solid project, and something that let's you build it the way you want it! These things are getting harder and harder to find, and as you know, the Aerocoupe was a two year car only. The rear window in these things go for big bucks, and this one is perfect.

It has the original 305 SBC with 200R auto trans. The engine appears to have a valve train noise, and not sure what condition the trans is in. So assume both need rebuilt or replaced. Low mileage 305's in this area sell for approx $400, so it would be pretty cheap to get back on the road. Both the engine and trans were being disconnected for removal, when owner lost interest. All emissions equipment is there and in the trunk (picture shown). All brackets appear to be there as well, and engine bay looks good. It will need an exhaust system from manifolds back. All computer equipment is there to make for an easy 305 swap, or rip it all out and stick in a 350 SBC, whatever direction you want to go.

Body is real nice for having sat around. Only found a few small rust spots (eraser size) in the lower pan of the spare tire well, other than that, trunk looks great, and has the original jack and lug wrench, but missing the spare. Front nose cone is in great shape, and the upper front nose cone mount is solid (these usually rust out quick). Doesn't appear to have ever been hit. Frame and underside look real good too. Car appears to have had one repaint a while ago, and the flat surfaces on hood, roof, and deck lid have faded. All glass is good, door glass is manual, and the rear aero glass is perfect. The paint on the drivers side quarter below the quarter glass is cracking. Drive it the way it is, or sand and paint it the way you want it! Replacement door handles are in the trunk that look new (also pictured).

Thanks for the questions already. However per the description, I will not part this SS Aerocoupe out. You want to buy the rear glass or nose cone, you'll have to buy the whole car and you can part it out. I certainly appreciate the math lesson one gentlemen provided me on what I can get for this car by parting it out, but again not interested in either :).

The interior is in decent shape, but you may want to replace the dash pad (your choice), and needs a rear bottom seat. All seat belts are there, bucket seats and console. Shifter is not hooked up, and the console just laying in-place. The upper door panels are faded, as well as upper seats front sitting in the sun. Keep them the way they are, dye them, or have it all reupholstered. Again, your choice.

The gentlemen that owned this Aerocoupe, had quite a few Monte's, which were all in great shape. He's just decided he's had enough, and moving the projects he know's he won't get too. This is a project car, but can be put back on the road with little effort! This thing is to nice to part out or make a race car out of, so please don't ask me to sell parts off of it. Good Luck!

Use this PowerPoint when convincing your spouse to let you buy a Corvette

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

When you are not the one in charge of the purse strings, creativity is a must when trying to get the string-holder to bankroll that next shiny object you just can't live without.
When I was a kid, I decided that life wasn't worth living if it weren't in pursuit of owning a GMC Typhoon. My 12-year-old self crafted a fiscal strategy that, when combined with my offer of a 49-percent share of ownership in the car in return for my parents' contribution of 80-percent of the purchase price, would see me behind the wheel of a Typhoon by the time I hit college. They walked away from the negotiating table and, the economic climate of the 8th grade being what it was at the time, another partner wasn't found before the Typhoon was discontinued.
Roy El-Rayes, however, has succeeded where 12-year-old me failed, and he did it by using the sort of professionalism that only a PowerPoint presentation can provide, along with some humor and bold-faced flattery.

Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.

GM recalls 8,500 Chevrolet Malibu models for rear suspension glitch

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

According to a letter from General Motors to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, flaws in the build process of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu have led to the recall of 8,519 cars. Units built between December 6, 2011 and January 15, 2013 may have been assembled with rear suspension cradles that had insufficient torque applied to certain bolts. That out-of-spec assembly could lead to issues ranging from slight noises to a loss of vehicle control.
The problem was first noticed in December of last year by a GM test fleet driver and eventually tracked back to the improperly torqued bolts on the suspension cradle assembled through July 2012 by a supplier located not too far from the Malibu's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Since an official NHTSA recall notice has not been issued yet, it isn't clear whether or not Detroit-built Malibus were the only ones affected (the 2013 Malibu is also built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas). Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting vehicles for proper torque specs, retightening if not within specs and, in some cases, perform a rear-wheel alignment.
