Up for sale is a TRUE 1970 Monte Carlo SS. It had spent all of its life in Las Vegas up until about 6 months ago. The car is LAZER straight with the exception of 2 quarter size dings on the rear quarter panels; 1 on either side (paint is cracked a bit). This was caused during shipping as the original manifold was left unsecured in the trunk area. As for rust.... well, there is ZERO!!!! The underneath is extremely clean!!!! The paint is victory red and is nice looking. Definitely drivers quality but not a show stopper!!! There are occasional scratches here and there but nothing obvious by any means. The interior I would rate a 6 out of 10. Everything is nicely in tact but being 44 years old it could stand to be freshened up. The interior consists of bucket seats, power windows, power driver seat, "airplane shifter," and also the rare option, back then, of a map light in the rear view mirror. There are ZERO cracks in the dash. The interior was left original other than a floor tach and 2 pods on the 'a pillar' which show oil pressure and water temperature. An alpine sound system has been added to the glove compartment along with 2 front and 2 rear alpine speakers.
Motor: 454 big block - original block punched out to a 468 along with a weiland supercharger. The rear main seal does leak a bit, as do all big blocks. Valve cover gaskets replaced along with full MSD tune-up. Transmission: Turbo 400 3 speed with a 2800 stall - A nice cruiser on the highway doing 55-60mph. The oil pan gasket could stand to be replaced as it leaks a bit. 12 bolt posi rear end with 373 gears. Be cool radiator with 2 electric fans - original fan shroud comes with vehicle. All lights work; all bulbs replaced. Power steering and power front disk brakes. Tilt steering. Horn and wipers do not operate - perhaps a fuse issue. Cowl fiberglass hood. 2 1/2 exhaust from collectors back - you can hear this vehicle a mile away - It is VERY VERY loud!! This is my 4th 1st generation Monte. It took me over a year to find it. Fortunately for my family and I, a business opportunity has come our way that we cannot pass by. Unfortunately, here I am listing my car but anyone looking for this SS is someone who has love for these cars and I'm sure will go to a great home!!! I have a right to end the auction at any time as the vehicle is listed here locally in Chicago,IL. Upon full paypal payment, allow 7-10 business days to arrange shipping. I have a car note on it and I would need that time to receive the title from the bank. Vehicle is to be purchased by its new owner as is. There is no guarantee or warranty on the vehicle. All information I provided above shows the vehicle details along with all its faults. Thank you kindly, in advance. HAPPY BIDDING!!! Pictures were taken professionally by Chicago Auto Center in Bensenville, IL where I originally purchased the vehicle. I figured they would do the car true justice vs the camera on my iPhone. |

Weekly Recap: Chevy and Alfa plot comeback strategies
Sat, Jun 27 2015Chevrolet and Alfa Romeo were two of the 20th Century's most iconic automotive brands. Chevy embodied America's post-war power and confidence. Alfa was the definition of the stylish Italian sports car. They reached halcyon heights in the 1950s and '60s, before declining precipitously amid new competition, changing consumer tastes, and uneven corporate management. Both say 2015 is the start of something better, and this week Chevy and Alfa laid out ambitious plans and showcased new cars that they hope will make them more relevant this year, and in the coming years. Each brand sits at its own crossroads, and their paths forward are as different as the Chevy Cruze and the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Chevy is still a sales beast, as evidenced by its volume of 4.8 million vehicles sold around the world last year. Chevy executives are fond of saying one of their cars is sold every seven seconds, which illustrates the strength and reach of a car brand that is the fourth largest in the world. "Make no mistake about it, we are a brand for the people," said General Motors North America president Alan Batey. But he wants consumers to want to buy a Chevy for its design and technology, not simply because it's affordable. That starts with all Chevys now featuring a distinctive a family look, with sporty cues from the Corvette or strong lines that riff on the Silverado pickup. "We want people to fall in lust with our cars," said Mike Pevovar, executive design director for Chevy passenger cars. "That initial emotional attraction has to be right on the exterior, and that's where form comes into play." Chevy is also loading up its cars, like the freshly unveiled 2016 Chevy Cruze, with technology to appeal to a younger crowd that prizes connectivity. The Cruze will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with its MyLink infotainment system, and OnStar with 4G LTE and wifi. Seeking out younger buyers is also sound business practice: Millennials now outnumber Baby Boomers as the largest single age group in the United States. Younger buyers also can improve a brand's image, which is another area where Chevy would like to improve. Chevy ranks 82nd on Interbrand's Best Global Brand's list, behind 11 other automakers. Apple is No. 1. "We need our own variation of the Genius Bar," Batey said. 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia View 3 Photos Meanwhile, Alfa is in different shape.
Leno drives Ringbrothers' latest, 1966 Chevy Chevelle Recoil
Tue, Mar 3 2015Jay Leno has been checking out quite a few older rides in his garage as of late, but has mixed things up a little this week. Ringbrothers took home an award at the 2014 SEMA Show for the 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle it named Recoil, and now the car has proven it can do more than just look good on Jay Leno's Garage. While the latest guest might look vintage, underneath those classic lines is a thoroughly modern muscle car sporting a claimed 980 horsepower. The heart of this beast is a supercharged LS7 V8 from Wegner Motorsports and a six-speed Tremec manual gearbox. Even with so much power, it can still run on 91-octane pump gas, and when Jay gets on the throttle the result is a wall of sound from the wailing supercharger. Despite the muscle, the Recoil doesn't really scream about its performance aesthetically. The color is a surprisingly plain beige, but the carbon fiber touches and side exhaust certainly indicate that there's something special here. The owner's sole request for the car was to include metal seats, and Ringbrothers provided them with a few bits of leather offering a touch of comfort. After checking the Recoil out from stem to stern, Leno finally gets behind the wheel and treats our ears to pull after pull from that big, supercharged V8.
800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable
Tue, 01 Oct 2013What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.
