GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR FOURTH GENERATION MALIBU ENTHUSIASTS. THIS CLASSIC HAS EVOLVED THROUGH THREE SEPERATE INCARNATIONS IN THE HISTORY OF THE CAR. BORN AS A NO FRILLS, SIX CYLINDER, NO A/C, GROCERY GETTER. TRANSFORMED INTO A RADICAL STREET MACHINE. NOW HAS BEEN RECONFIGURED TO A NICE, AGGRESSIVE, VERY STREETWORTHY CRUISER/STREET MACHINE. MILEAGE ON ODOMETER DISPLAYS A LITTLE OVER 7,700. ACTUAL MILEAGE UNKNOWN. REPAINTED IN CORVETTE WAR BONNET YELLOW. MODIFIED, BUT VERY STREETWORTHY DRIVE TRAIN. VERY NICE STOCK FACTORY INTERIOR. THE FOURTH GENERATION MALIBU IS WILDLY POPULAR AT THE DRAG STRIPS, AND THE AFFORDABILITY OF THE CARS HAS LAUNCHED THEM INTO THE FOREFRONT OF THE CLASSIC CAR HOBBY. A NICELY BUILT MALIBU CAN BE PURCHASED FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST OF A CHEVELLE OR CAMARO. PLEASE READ THE COMPLETE AD AND VIEW THE PHOTOS, INCLUDING A LINK TO A FULL FILE OF PICTURES IN PHOTOBUCKET. THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST DRIVER QUALITY EXAMPLES OF THIS MODEL THAT YOU WILL FIND IN THIS PRICE RANGE. RUNS AND DRIVES AS WELL AS IT LOOKS. DON'T LOSE THIS OPPORTUNITY.

The Chevrolet Malibu was produced by General Motors from 1964 to 1983 and from 1997 to present. The Malibu began as a trim-level of the Chevrolet Chevelle, but became its own model line in 1978. In the first three generations, the Malibu brand was directly connected to the Chevelle line. By the time the third generation went into production, the Malibu had become oversized and underpowered. Although comfort and convenience options had increased significantly, the Malibu lost its' identity. However, even though the car had strayed from the original intent, sales were booming. Chevrolet realized that this design had run the course, and in an effort to maintain successful sales figures, opted for a radical new design.

For the 1978 model year, the Malibu name, which had been the bestselling badge in the lineup, replaced the Chevelle name. This was Chevrolet's second downsized nameplate, following the lead of the 1977 Caprice. The new, more efficient platform was over a foot shorter and had shed 500 to 1,000 pounds compared to previous versions, yet offered increased trunk space, leg room, and head room. The design was a tremendous success. Sales continued to rise. In 1978, 358,636 units were sold. By 1979, that number had increased by over 50,000 units to 412,147 units. Consumers were overwhelmingly drawn to this new model. There was an added bonus. Car guys and hot rodders began scrutinizing the Malibu. It was quickly determined this car was a perfect candidate for drag racing, due to aerodynamics, weight, vehicle cost, horsepower to weight ratio, etc. As a result, even today, the Malibu is one of the most popular choices for the racers, eclipsed by only the Fox Body Mustang. Also, the Malibu has now transitioned to the streets, with modified examples plentiful at cruises and car shows.

Fourth generation production ceased in 1983. The fifth generation returned in 1997. The Malibu has moved on to the current eighth generation. Although this trusty automobile remains today as the best selling car line in the division, it no longer resembles the aggressive performance machine that prowled the streets back in the day. This is now a bygone era.

As stated above, this beauty has a unique history. Originally a base model, with six cylinder engine and no air conditioning. A family grocery getter. The car was then reconfigured into a ground pounding street machine, with a 383 stroker engine. Finally, a decision was made to tame the beast into a mildy modifed, extremely drivable street machine.

Southern body has been refinished in War Bonnet Yellow, which was available on Corvettes. The original color appears to be Camel Poly, which is still present under the hood, in the trunk, and the door jams. Base coat, clear coat that has never been wet sanded and buffed. Although the current exterior has a glossy shine, a wet sand and buff would significantly enhance the finish. All steel cowl hood. Dual sport mirrors. GM Rally Wheels with derby caps and trim rings. Radial tires all the way around. Radial Touring P195/65R15 on the front. Cooper Trendsetter P225/70R15 on the rear. Rear spoiler added. All glass is in very good shape. Chrome and stainless bright work in very good shape. Both bumpers are in great shape. Seals and weatherstripping in very nice condition.

The monster stroker engine was removed and replaced with a rebuilt 350 Cu. In. engine. Edelbrock Competition Series carburetor mounted on an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. Cast iron heads. Hydraulic cam and valve train. HEI ignition. Headers flow through an X pipe, then split out to a dual Flowmaster Exhaust. Exhaust dumps out behind rear axle. Turbo automatic transmission. Shift kit and 2200 RPM stall converter. Column shifted. Ten bolt differential. Heavy duty coil springs with heavy duty shock absorbers. Undercarriage is not highly detailed. However, it is extremely clean and rock solid. Trunk is very clean. Spare tire and jack are present.

Factory Saddle bench seat interior. Seats and cushions of the front and back seat are in very good condition. Front door panels in very good condition. Rear panels have some sun fading, but could easily be redyed. Headliner in nice condition. Dash is in good condition, with a few minor cracks. Carpet is in good shape. Power steering. Power disc brakes. A set of gauges were mounted in the driver pillar, but they have been removed. There are three Sun Pro gauges, volts, oil pressure, and water temperature mounted in the dash. All gauge faces are all clear. There is an electric fuel pump switch on the left side of the dash. This is disconnected, as there is now no electric fuel pump. There is also a master cutoff switch under the dash, which is functional. Full set of seat belts. AM/FM/CD with nine inch coaxial speakers in the package shelf, round speakers in rear door panels, and front.

If you are looking for a nice driver quality, fourth generation, good looking and driving Malibu, at an unbelievable price, take a close look at this one. You won't be disappointed.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.

Are you the 2014 Corvette Grand Sport?

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

When are stripes more than just stripes? Follow up question: Is the product development team at Chevrolet really cocky enough to hide the next C7 Corvette variant in plain sight? This very recently spotted, and ostensibly obscured C7 asks a lot more questions than it answers, but there's at least some evidence to support that it might be the next Corvette Grand Sport.
The first and most obvious tip-off that something is up with this 'Vette revolves around those silver stripes. Obviously the stripes themselves don't necessarily denote a new model. However, when Chevy recently launched its "colorizer" website for the Stingray, there was no provision made for racing stripes - solid colors only.
Grand Sport exhibit number two is actually an incriminating lack of badges. The production Corvettes we've seen to date have all carried Stingray badges on their fenders, just behind the vent. The car seen in these images has no such badges, which is an intriguing omission on an car that looks like a production-spec vehicle otherwise.

First privately owned Corvette Stingray blitzes 1/4 mile in 12.23 at 114.88 mph

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Chevrolet's latest road rocket, the Corvette Stingray, is a very quick car. If one needs further proof of that, we recommend they take a look at this video from Hennessey of what is claimed to be the first privately owned C7 Corvette to make a pass down the quarter mile. Not just any quarter mile, mind, this black C7 blitzed its way down the tuner's primary testing dragstrip. The Chevrolet ran the quarter in just 12.23 seconds at 114.88 miles per hour. That is a very quick time for a stock car.
Equipped with the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission, not only does the C7 run a solid time, but it does so with little to no drama. That won't last though, as Hennessey will likely return it to its owner with far more power - we just hope they show a drag run of the completed product. Take a look below to watch the C7's 12.23-second run on video.
