327 Ss Uncut 62,000 Original Miles Gold Matching #s Rare Power Bench Option on 2040-cars
Paso Robles, California, United States
This is an Autumn Gold 1962 Chevy Impala with the V8 327 SS option with Powerglide transmission. The car was made at the Los Angeles, CA plant in 1961 and was purchased in Salinas, CA and lived in Watsonville,CA for over 40 years. Which means had very low exposure to moisture and was less prone to getting rust. The original owner passed away and her nephew (his aunt) had the vehicle rebuilt in 2005 from the ground up. I am only the 3rd owner. It has been my weekend cruiser for 7 years and gets lots of looks and thumbs up. All original parts that were viable were used. A few chrome pieces (gas tank) and glass were replaced. Also some engine components were improved upon. Car was professionally painted and fully rebuilt by 2008.
The number one question I get about this car is "Why does this car have a bench seat with SS Package it should have bucket seats?" The answer is that 1962 was the first year they offered the SS Package, they offered to the late 1961 models but less that 500 were made. The Power Bench seat was still an option and since she had a family of 6 she needed the bench seat. I have listed all the cowl/body tag numbers and have shown them in scans. Also has a rare option: Autronic Eye Automatic Headlight Dimmer. It is connected to dash but was never hooked back up. The engine is Original and has been rebuilt twice. I had it rebuilt again this year with a mild Cam (cam shaft MC-1988). Also I just repaired the Radiator. Here are the numbers and decoding of tags: VIN 21847L101587: 1962 Impala 8
cylinder 2 door sport coupe built in Los Angeles, CA. Production #
1587. 1960 thru 1964 VIN contains 12 characters. 1962 Chevrolet VIN Decoding: First Symbol - Year. 2 = 1962 Second & Third Symbol - Series 18 = Impala 1800 Series (V-8) Fourth & Fifth Symbol - Body Style 47 = 2dr Sport Coupe Sixth Symbol - Assembly Plant (L) Los Angeles, California Last 6 numbers were production numbers Style 62-1847: 62- 1962 18 Impala Series 1800 - V-8 **47 Body style: 2 dr Hardtop Sport Coupe – 5 Passenger Original Sticker price: $2,776 weight: 3,450 lbs BODY VN 510: "BODY" field to determine the assembly plant where the car was manufactured and the sequential serial number the car was given at the factory. VN is Los Angeles, CA serial # 510 Trim 866 interior is: Fawn. Material type is: Cloth & Vinyl (Impala) Seat type: Bench Paint 920 Autumn Gold ACC 28 Is
specific to the L.A. Factory so there is no way to verify. Only custom ACC was
the Power bench seat. I have looked on the internet for years.
The Chevy Impala had
a base price around $2,776 in 1962. The 'Super Sport' or 'SS' package added
another $53.80, which included the exterior badging , simulated machine-turned
trim inserts, spinner-style wheel covers, and interior grab handle. For an
extra $102.25, the buyer would receive matching vinyl front bucket seats
finished in the color of their choosing and locking center counsel. This 1962 was made to
have 5 Passenger seating **62-1847 (Bucket seats), but original owner
wanted a power bench seat as indicated in Trim 866. The Engine has just been fully rebuilt this year. Had to rebuild it because the previous rebuild had bad seals so over time built up condensation so it was starting to knock. Paint is in great shape-has a few rock nicks but has no deep scratches, chipping or other such defects. The car has always had a cover on it and been in the garage. Body has no dents and is very straight with no Bondo. Originally had a few light door dents that were taken out in rebuild. The Powerglide Transmission runs well with the only issue being a leaking gasket. Radiator was just repaired. I have electric doors on it but just started not working after I had engine rebuilt. The Car is very close to being a show winning vehicle. Items that I would improve on to make it show quality: some chrome shows wear (scratches, few light dents), Chrome on front bumper needs to be dipped one more time- has chipping on passengers side corner & has some paint overspray. Needs both door moldings. Paint has a few rock nicks. Power seat motor needs to be repaired or replaced. Never fixed it because fit me fine. Horn needs to be hooked back up. Tranny gasket has a leak. Missing a few screws, door panel pins, emblem clips, that have come loose or lost. Original radio doesn't work and newer one could use an upgrade. I will also include a full set of original anodized aluminum tail light caps with brand new tail lights. I bought them but never installed them. If you want a collector car that needs very little or just a daily cruiser this is the car for you. Buyer makes a $500 deposit within 24 hrs of purchasing the vehicle. I am located in Paso Robles, CA and I reserve the right to sell locally. If car sells locally I will end the listing immediately. On the off chance someone purchases it online at same time as a local Buyer purchases it, the local will get the vehicle. If you have any question please call me or text me at (805)286-6629. My name is Adam Please no trade offers or offers to help me sell my vehicle. I am not desperate to sell the vehicle and only have to sell to make room for another car and don't want to keep the car outside. I have already been offered close to opening bid so please no low ball offers. THANKS :) |

Corvette Stingray Convertible images mysteriously appear on web, so we add our own
Tue, 22 Jan 2013It was inevitable that we'd see the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray topless at some point, but that didn't make us any less interested when a pair of supposedly leaked official images showed up on theautoinsiderblog.com last week. We posted them on our Facebook page, but held off reporting on them here until we could get a little more information.
Those images, which feature a dark red car on a sterile black studio background, supposedly first appeared on the website of diecast model maker Maisto. A Chevrolet spokesman has been reported saying that they are "not official images released by Chevrolet PR," which isn't a denial they're the real deal, but neither is it a confirmation.
Close examination of the photos suggest they could be official shots of the Corvette Stingray Convertible, and while some have doubted their authenticity due to a lack of vents (which were seen on the C7s that debuted in Detroit last week), it could be that the images are of a base model car without the Z51 package that doesn't require the extra venting and cooling.
General Motors shaking up its marketing... again
Wed, 13 Mar 2013One of the things that dogs the full comeback of General Motors is the instability of its marketing. That part of the automaker got yet another big shakeup today when GM confirmed what I have been tweeting for a few days - strong rumors that the Chevrolet and Cadillac ad accounts are walking to new ad agencies.
Cadillac, GM's luxury brand, is going into review from Fallon Worldwide, Minneapolis and the indications are that Campbell-Ewald, Chevy's old ad shop, will end up with most or all of it. C-E just announced that it was moving from its long-time home in Warren, MI to a new downtown Detroit office next to Ford Field, just blocks from GM.
The other shoe to drop shortly will be the shift of GM's most important brand, Chevy, from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners of San Francisco to McCann-Erickson of Troy, MI. McCann used to be the agency for Buick and GMC, as well as GM's corporate advertising, and has retained some pieces of business over the last few years. Sources have even told us that it was McCann that did a lot of the creative work on Chevy's new ad platform, Find New Roads. (Not to be confused with a former McCann tagline for Saab, "Find Your Own Road.")
Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere
Tue, 26 Feb 2013Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.
