1996 Impala Ss on 2040-cars
Batavia, Illinois, United States
For Sale: 1996 Impala SS (Black w/Gray Leather Interior). I purchased this vehicle in 2002 from a dealer in Houston, TX and have owned it since. The vehicle has been well maintained and the 5.7L V-8 LT1 motor runs very well. The 4-sp auto transmission shifts smoothly. The serpentine belt and A/C compressor was replaced last month so the A/C blows ice cold. Brake pads were replaced last year as was the starter. Outside, there are some scratches in the paint and minor dents, but not bad at all given the age of the vehicle. There is a small hole in the drivers side tail lens...all other exterior lenses are good. The power antenna does not retract (but the radio works fine). Inside, the carpet is clean and in good shape. The rear seat looks nearly new. The front seats show some wear, but there are not tears in the seats. The headliner is in great shape. The interior door panels have some cracks. The two front and two rear speakers were replaced about 3 years ago, so the radio/CD sound great. The windshield and other glass have no cracks. The tires have about 10,000 miles and plenty of tread left. This car is fun to drive and has been fun to own...it could be used as a daily driver or a restoration project. My wife and I are downsizing and will soon not have room for this extra vehicle, so that's why I'm selling it. |

Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th
Tue, 15 Apr 2014It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.
Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.
Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues
Wed, 28 Dec 2011'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
