1968 Impala Convertible

This is a 1968 Impala Convertible with a 305 V8 with an automatic transmission (I believe it is a Powerglide transmission). It ran and drove fine last summer when I parked it in the garage with the exception of the brakes starting to get soft. The wheels and tires on the car are just some salvage junk I put on the car to drive around the block because the old bias ply tires were dry rotted. I wouldn't drive any distance on then at all now. This is a project car. There is rust on the lower panels. There are various dents and dings. The floors are in good condition. The trunk floor is in good condition except where it meets the fenders at the bottom (see photos). The interior needs to be reupholstered. The power top mechanism leaked fluid when I got it, and I have not fixed that. The top is in ok shape, but it fits very tight as though it has shrunk and it's nearly impossible to close when the top is cold. The frame appears to be in good condition. Some things were disassembled and may have parts missing. The back seat was removed to inspect the power top mechanism. The driver door inner panel was removed because the vent window crank was not working and I discovered the window frame was loose. Over all, it's got "good bones." I also have a few extra parts, the original wheels, an extra front passenger fender and other miscellaneous items. I bought this car in 2004 and drove it on sunny days for several years, it was a pleasure to drive. I was told the miles were original but I have no way of determining if it has 52,000 or 152,000. In short, I have too many projects and too little time and it's time to let it go. I had listed this car previously but the winning bidder strung me along and never completed the deal. I later found out that he had done this two other times prior. So, please bid only if you are serious about buying the car.

I'm starting the bid at a ridiculously low price and it will be no reserve.

I will require a $500 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours of auction close.

This car is sold as is where is. If you need transportation for the car you will need to make arrangements for that yourself and have the car picked up from my residence in Iron Mountain, MI.

Thank you for your interest.

The motor is a 307 not a 305 as I stated in the description.

Conquest and controversy conclude the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona [spoilers]

Sun, 26 Jan 2014

If you don't wish to know who won the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, you should avert your eyes right now. We'll even give you a double-space to skedaddle...
For those of you still with us, the first race in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) is done, but the discussions about it certainly won't end for a while. Daytona Prototypes claimed the first four overall places, the top spot taken by the No. 5 Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, Sebastien Bourdain and Burt Friselle. The 16th and final caution of the race bunched the field up for an eight-minute sprint to the flag, so the first place getter finished just 1.4 seconds ahead of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Max Angelelli. Third place went to Brian Friselle in the No. 9 Action Express Chevrolet Corvette DP, 20 seconds down. Chevrolet power hasn't taken the overall win since 2003, eleven years later it scores a one-two-three-four. The No. 6 Muscle Milk/Pickett Racing ORECA-Nissan 03 scored fifth place, the top LMP2 finisher.
The Prototype Challenge class win went to the No. 54 CORE Autosport team of Colin Braun, Jon Bennett, Mark Wilkins and James Gue.

C7 Corvette makes inaugural ad appearance in Chevy's first spot with new slogan

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

Chevrolet's "Runs Deep" tagline has finally been run into the ground, replaced with the Bowtie brand's "Find New Roads" slogan that's part of parent General Motors' plan to unify its everyday brand's marketing efforts worldwide. The new Chevrolet campaign was ushered in on prime time last night during the Grammy Awards on CBS, and the first spot, a 90-second full-line ad, also marks the first appearance of the 2014 Corvette Stingray in a commercial.
Being a full-line ad, the commercial is composed of vignettes centered on different vehicles in the brand's lineup. The all-new 2014 Impala also makes its first commercial appearance in dapper fashion, and time is spent on a skateboarding Sonic and a bouquet of brightly colored Spark hatchbacks driven by fashionable women. The ad starts and ends with Chevy's green halo car, the Volt, along with a young girl with her robotic dog (yes, really).
Chevrolet's "Runs Deep" campaign got off to a rocky start in the fall of 2010, but it did last for a couple of years with some tweaks. This new one, "Find New Roads" seems more intent on drawing new customers into the fold than the outgoing tagline, which seemed to play more toward the brand faithful. It admittedly reminds us more than a little the short-lived "Find Your Own Road" Saab motto (which, we note, was conceived while the Swedish brand was under GM's control), but no matter, we still think it's got more long-term potential than "Runs Deep."

C7 Corvette turbo with 1,000 horsepower promised from Hennessey

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

If you can't wait for the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Hennessey says they will have you covered. The Texas-based company has announced it will offer a spate of upgrades for the 2014 Corvette ranging from a range of bolt-on options all the way up to a 1,000-horsepower, twin-turbo system. Buyers can start with a cold air intake, cat-back exhaust or stainless steel long-tube headers, but Hennessey says it will also offer up three stages of forced induction mayhem should those bits and baubles not provide enough thrust.
Those choices start with a supercharger system good for up to 700 hp, though Hennessey will gladly ditch the blower in favor of two turbos. Doing so will spin the crank to the tune of 800 horsepower all the way up to a certifiably ludicrous 1,000 ponies. There's no word on how much these tricks will cost you - or when they will be available, as we're guessing they haven't gotten their hands on the car yet - but you can head over to the Hennessey site to drop them a line if you're curious.
