*Please read carefully*   This is a very rare 1965 Chevrolet Impala (NOT S.S.), that came from the factory with an L78- 396Cid 425Hp/ 4 Speed M-21/ Bench Seat. Original Color is Yellow, with Black Interior. I have the original "Build Sheet", that I found behind the rear quarter interior panel. It is approx half there, however, you can make out the engine size, transmission , tach, etc, etc.  I also have the Original "Protect-o Plate" which is still attached to the "Warranty Manual".  Also have the original "Owners Manual" as well. There were 1838 of these cars built of which approx-11% of the 1838 were Plain Jane Impala's.   This auction is for the body & chassis only. There has been a lot of work done to this body & chassis, however, it will need a lot more work to complete. The Original 12 Bolt Rear is still intact, and goes with the car.   I do have the original drive line components, except for the original block, however, they do not go with this auction!!!!! If you are the winning bidder, I would consider selling the drive-line if buyer is interested at an additional cost. Please call if interested. Again, this auction is for the body & chassis, Build Sheet, Protect-o Plate, Owners Manual.  Body Needs one Fender, and some other misc components needed. No Interior. Have most of Trim, however, it will require restoration, or, replacement. Original Frame which has been blasted & painted. New Floor Pans. New Trunk Pan. Original Body to Protect-o Plate & Build Sheet. Clear Ohio Title. If you do not want to do a complete restoration, this may not be for you. If you want a real documented 1965 Impala L78, this might be the one. I will store this vehicle for as long as needed until shipping arrangements are made, as long as the time frame does not exceed 3 months. All payments must be received within 5 days end of auction, or, this auction will be void. If any questions, please call (330)-614-0801.  Thanks.

Mother's Day Suggestion No. 2,506

Thu, 02 May 2013

With Mother's Day coming up, we're always looking for new gift ideas to celebrate the occasion, but hot laps around a track might not be the best suggestion for Darius Khashabi. In a video posted on YouTube, Khashabi straps his mom into the passenger seat of his C6 Corvette Z06 for some laps around Sonoma Raceway (formerly Infineon Raceway) at "60 percent" with comical results.
Now this isn't the first time Mama Khashabi has gotten seat time in her son's car around a track, as his YouTube page shows him pulling a similar stunt - with similar results - around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last year. Scroll down for the video, but know that the action really gets going at around the 1:40 mark.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed. Don't forget, folks, you read it here first.
