What you will be bidding on is an "UNFINISHED" 1962 Chevrolet Impala " SS " 2 door hardtop. I will describe in detail everything that has been done to the car, and the condition of everything that goes with it, futher along in the listing.  Basicly, its a rolling empty shell as it sits now, that has received a partial frame off restoration of high standards (About 85% to 90% of the hard work finished ), but still needs some lite restoration work, some painting, and assembly. This is a "REAL SS " car and I do have all the major original GM - SS equipment that came with the car.

THE CAR DOES "NOT" HAVE AN ENGINE OR TRANS !!

The story and history of the car is as follows;

I bought the car approximately 7 years ago in South Carolina. At that point the body of the car had been media blasted - some panels replaced - and sitting in primer, and in pieces. The car was carefully inspected when I brought it home and I concluded that the previous work performed was well done, however it still needed much refinement. At this point I decided this car (because it was very solid) would make a 1st class driver for myself, but not a show car to resell. ( I have been restoring and selling at high end auctions for 30 years )  So I started restoring the car, in my spare time, as a street driver till I realized the work I was doing was more like the full out show cars that I do to sell. Now I'm caught in the middle !! The car is too good to be a driver - but still not quite good enough to be pure show. That's in my eyes !! Someone else could look at it and say it is all show. If anything, it is much closer to all out show, than it is to being anything else. Another thing that has happened over the last 7 years is that I started to build this as an original factory looking car,(and detailed underneath as such), but now it seems everyone wants a resto rod, so I'm left wondering what engine combination to use and where to stop on acc's. Bottom line is, I'd rather sell it the way it is now, and let someone else pick up the pieces and finish it their way. Now is the time to take it if you want to resto-rod it, because you can add all the upgrades (such as disc brakes/dual master cly/etc.) without having to remove the original style parts.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

This 1962 coupe is a bonified - "REAL" - SS optioned car from the factory. I have the original console - grab bar - bucket seats along with the original seat floor mounts !! The trim tag has a #875 trim code which is for a red bucket seat car. This came from the factory with a 327 & 3 speed on the column. The motor & trans are long gone !! Other than the missing drivetrain, the car is mostly complete and all parts listed will be included in this sale.

The body and frame have undergone a frame off restoration, and is in rolling condition. The car has all the gas & brake lines laid out from the firewall back, but has NO brakes hooked up !! It has a makeshift steering link put on to get it on a trailer, but will not stop !! It is as shown in the pictures, and all extra parts included will need to be assembled. The quality of all the work done is excellent. However, over the coarse of 7 years of being moved around, it does have some small surface scratchs and imperfections in the paint, and will require some minor touch up. It isn't anything that jumps out at you when you first look, but I want you to be aware of it.

From the firewall back, the body work and paint, including the frame painting and all detail work has been done. Its straight - solid - rust free - excellent fit & finish. This includes all the underside of the body, which has been coated in red oxide primer to resemble the factory look as it was in '62, along with the correct looking undercoating on the outer edges. Many - Many hours of work went into the underside of this car to give it that "fresh off the assembly line" look !! The inside of the trunk area is completely finished with the original style splatter paint and the weatherstripping is installed.

The red paint on the car is lacquer, just as it was in '62. It has a red lacquer base (@$500 a Gal) with clear lacquer top coats, then color sanded and buffed to a stunning high gloss. The paint itself (excluding the minor flaws) can best be described as miror like, along with being very deep - creamy - glassy - smooth - all at the same time. I have enough paint left (included), out of 2 gals I bought, to more than finish whats left to paint. The major parts needing red paint will be the hood - front lower splash panel - wiper cowl panel and some small interior pieces. These parts are included but need prep work before painting. The hood is almost finished on the outside, but will need all prep work done in the inside. Both front fenders are finished on both sides and are ready to put on car. The remaining resto work is on the inner fender wells/rad support/hood hindges/brackets etc. These parts are clean and painted by the former owner, but really should be done over again to match the quality of the rest of the car.

The interior of the car will need to be completely recovered in new material, but is complete and in excellent used condition. There is a headliner in excellent condition installed in the car. (hardest part done). The metal dash and instrument panel have already been painted red and is ready to assemble. All the guages have been cleaned and/or restored and are ready to install.

The outside trim package with this car is outstanding !! Most everything is new or restored to show quality. There are a few missing pieces that I will list, but all are easily avalible. I can't list each and every piece or I'll be here forever, but some of the important pieces are; Rechromed Original Bumpers - All side mouldings - grill - headlight bezels - are original to the car and have been show restored and re-anodized. (much brighter than the repops). The complete rear tail light area trim is all new quality reproduction pieces, NOT the cheep overseas stuff, and (very expencive). All the emblems I have are all new. The original used pieces that have not been restored are in excellent condition. No dents or scratches or bends. Will only need to be polished. The missing pieces of trim you will need are as follows; Rocker mlds - Rear windshield grill mld - Front fender flags - Rear trunk SS emblem - Rear windshield upper left mld. - Upper trunk lid mld. Every thing else comes with the car. If you had to piece together all the trim parts I have, both new/restored/used,inside and out, you would most likely be looking at $4000. or more.  The truth is, and I'm not stretching this, if you started out to buy a base 62 to restore and added the trim package I have, then add in the SS only parts, plus repair panels - paint - frame parts & pluming, and other misc parts, you would have spent in the area of $12,000. already. (I actually have more in it). Now----you have enough parts, but you're still looking at a rusty unrestored car that will take months and mega dollars to make look like this one. Do the math if you don't believe me ! And then---whats a show quality paint job worth ???? And how long to do it ???? Not to mention painting most everything on both sides - the frame - all the small pieces ???     I just listed the major pieces, but there are many-many more. If there is a certain piece you need to know about, please ask !

Some of the other new parts include; -Gas tank w/3/8" sending unit-filler tube-straps-most weatherstripping-windshield rubber channels-door glass and frames-vent glass-body mounts-tail pipes-many small parts.

The rear end is a posi unit with a 3:36 ratio !!

I have most all the small hardware pieces for the doors-windows-brakes-steering-etc, but are unrestored. Although I have most everything to put this car together, it is still a basket case, and there will be some small things missing, but not anything you can't replace easily.

This is already becoming a longer than wanted listing, and as stated before, I can't possibly list every thing thats here, or all that might be missing. I think by now you should have a good idea of what's here and what it might look like, so if I have left out something or forgotten anything, it was not meant to be intentional. Just remember that there is still a lot of work to do that involves a lot of loose parts !! However, this is a money maker for someone with the skills to finish it, and my loss will certainly be someone elses gain !!

Again, the major parts that are missing are:

NO MOTOR-TRANSMISSION-DRIVELINE PARTS

NO RADIATOR

NO WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR

NO BRAKE PARTS UP FRONT (after firewall)

ABOUT THE TITLE

I do have a clear title signed by the former owner. It is "NOT" in my name - It is still in his name and signed by him as the seller. It is not assigned to anyone as a buyer. In other words, the title is "OPEN", and you just put in your own name & address. If you have any questions about this please contact me.

If you need pictures of anything not shown, or have any questions about anything, please let me know and I will do my best to help you with your request. The pictures I have used are for you to get an idea of the quality of work, and do not show the extent of all that is included.

There will be an exceptional lot of loose parts upon pickup, so make sure you bring a big bed truck and lots of packing supplies. If you have it shipped, please make sure the carrier knows it is in pieces. It would be best to pick it up in person, because I do not want to box & package everything for a shipper !! I will help when you get here, and if necessary I will temporarily put on the fenders etc for moving, but I will not just toss all of these new expensive parts loosely inside the car for a shipper.

It's possible that I just might consider a Trade or partial Trade on another pre 70's vehicle. Maybe one that runs & drives.

I also will consider selling just the empty body and rolling frame if you do not want the trim or ss parts. This will have to be pre-arranged with me before the end of sale - "NOT" after you have bought it !!

GOOD LUCK & PLEASE BE A RESPONCIBLE BIDDER

Winning bidder to contact me and leave me a deposit within 24 hours of end of sale.

More Corvette Stingray Factoids: Vanishing panel gaps and 26-mpg LT1

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

During January's Detroit Auto Show, we managed a longer than expected wandering tag-team interview with C7 Corvette chief engineering exec Tadge Juechter (pictured above), and LT1 engine boss Jordan Lee (pictured below). They are, quite honestly, two of the very nicest bigshot lads to ever walk the engineering corridors of an American manufacturer. Both are enthralled by what they're doing for a day job. So are we.
We've followed the pre-sale anticipation for the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray like an Oreck vacuum yanking every speck of dirt from a well-trampled carpet. Everything is reportable and contains a grain of further knowledge about this dramatically important and cheered-for car, as it continues to be pressured into representing all that is superior about the American dream. The Corvette wears one heavy cloak.
So, most of what was talked about has been expertly reported already right here on Autoblog. But, looking through our notes again, both Jeuchter and Lee added facts to the buzzing mix.

C7 Corvette turbo with 1,000 horsepower promised from Hennessey

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

If you can't wait for the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Hennessey says they will have you covered. The Texas-based company has announced it will offer a spate of upgrades for the 2014 Corvette ranging from a range of bolt-on options all the way up to a 1,000-horsepower, twin-turbo system. Buyers can start with a cold air intake, cat-back exhaust or stainless steel long-tube headers, but Hennessey says it will also offer up three stages of forced induction mayhem should those bits and baubles not provide enough thrust.
Those choices start with a supercharger system good for up to 700 hp, though Hennessey will gladly ditch the blower in favor of two turbos. Doing so will spin the crank to the tune of 800 horsepower all the way up to a certifiably ludicrous 1,000 ponies. There's no word on how much these tricks will cost you - or when they will be available, as we're guessing they haven't gotten their hands on the car yet - but you can head over to the Hennessey site to drop them a line if you're curious.

Next Corvette ZR1 to get 700 horsepower?

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

Word has it General Motors may offer as much as 700 horsepower in the C7 Corvette ZR1. Motor Trend reports the next Corvette Z06 will continue to rely on its naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 engine for thrust, but the lump will deliver substantially more power. How much more? MT says the engine could deliver up to 600 ponies. That's a jump of 95 horsepower over the current Z06, though no figures have been finalized as of yet. Right now, GM is reportedly waiting to see what sort of grunt it can glean from the next ZR1.
The automaker has already made it clear it will resurrect the LT5 name for the new supercharged V8, and if GM is already pulling 600 from the Z06, the big dog ZR1 would theoretically offer 700 horsepower. Either way, the range-topping Corvette will be suitably insulated from its less potent siblings. Stay tuned. We aren't likely to see the Z06 for at least a year, with the ZR1 trailing along at some point there after.
