Summary:

This is simply the coolest and most capable family hauler in the country.  No mini van, no suburban, no

expeditions come close...this vehicle gets looks and compliments from valet guys, soccer moms,

construction workers, business clients and most importantly the kids and their friends, plus its fun to

drive as its fast and has a wide stance for stability.

How many vehicles can tow a boat with 8 people and ALL of their gear?  Fits 11 people with the

removable rear jump seat (always the kids favorite place to sit) which also makes a great tailgate spot.

Equipped with the optional 6.0L GM LS engine, it can tackle the Arizona mountain roads well above the

posted speed limits if desired.  It runs amazingly strong and smooth on the highways but has the safety

and security of a true 4x4 with low range (click QuigleyWebsite for more info).

Interior Conversion:

The van started its life as a normal 15 passenger van.  I took it to a limo shop and basically had them

completely "gut" the interior back to the shell.  We insulated throughout with dynamat and put it all

back together with beige vinyl or suede covering most surfaces.  The front seats are power and from a

toyota tundra and the middle swivel chairs are from a Ford F-150.  The rear bench seats 4 with a power

fold feature.  The rear bench seat was custom made to face the rear for 3 more seats and either folds flat

with the other bench or remove altogether.  All seats are black suede with a bentley style diamond stitch

pattern and the edges are in beige vinyl for durability.  Black carpet throughout and we had a 2nd carpet

pad made to cover the main areas so that rear carpet below is protected.

Stereo/ Audio Video:

There are 3 TV's including a ken wood DVD player in dash. There are two (2) Alpine

Amps, 10 Speakers and a 10" alpine pro subwoofer.  There is so much potential bass that I

have the gain turned down to -5 most of the time.  The stereo is one of the many reasons I

like driving this car...it simply rocks and sounds very clean.  I basically bought the stereo that I would

have had in high school (had I been able to afford it).  The amps are tucked neatly behind a custom rear

sub panel with storage and led lighting.  There are cool features throughout including ipod connection of

course, blue tooth connectivity, hands free phone and a toggle switch to turn off the front TV while a

movie is showing (so I'm not tempted to watch while driving).

Lighting:

On the inside there are 3 series of LED lights.  Series 1 is in each rows cup holders, series 2 are in

hidden tracks in most of the rear windows and series 3 is on the floor and dvd players.  These are very

cool and really make the vehicle fun for people at night, feeling like they are in a limo.

Exterior

The paint is a black matte finish which is very unique.  Windows are tinted and we added a custom nerf

bar / running boards made from chromoly tubing and actually serve as protection on the rare off roaring

trips.  The nerf bars make it easy for anyone to get in and out of the vehicle.  My brother made (not

shown) 2 removable front lights that are combined 30 million candle power.  Shines beyond the roads

sometimes....

Defects:

The report above is showing an accident in 2012.  What a joke... my brother borrowed it to drive around

some friends and changed lanes into a lady.  There is a slight dent on the passenger door and while we

offered to pay for her mirror, she was really rude about it and reported it to insurance.

Defect #2 is the left rear section next to the tail lights was cracked and I spray painted with a different

matte black paint (because I am a moron).  While you can hardly tell, its there and it looks like a

smudge. Defect #3 is the electronic rear bench that is stuck, requiring a new part for around $120.  I can

get it but just haven't and there is so much room behind that I have no need to fold it down...

Next-gen Chevy Cruze caught cruising in the cold

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Spy photographers have caught what looks like the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze out on snow patrol. The camo could be tricking our eyes, but it look like it has an even tidier, more rounded front end and even lower fenders in relation to the top of the hood. And either a chunk of camo has been wedged between the side mirrors and the doors, or the mirrors are up for revision, too.
The door handles have been moved up the side of the car, leading the way to a rear end that grows a bit in length. If the rumors are true, the coming second-generation Cruze sits on the new D2XX platform that will replace the Delta and Theta platforms at General Motors. A global architecture, the Cruze will be the first to get it, but it will underpin everything from next Chevrolet Volt to the Equinox and could be responsible for 2.5 million units by 2018. The next Cruze is expected to begin production in GM's Lordstown, Ohio plant in the third quarter of 2014.

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.

Chevy monitors drivers' biometrics while experiencing new Corvette Stingray

Fri, 25 Oct 2013

We tell you about what a car is like to drive every day, remarking on throttle response, steering weight and feedback, squat, dive, brake fade and a dozen or more other factors of performance. What we can't tell you, though, is what the car does to us - how its performance impacts us, physically. That's what makes this video series from Chevrolet so darn cool.
The Bow-Tie brand rented out Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, got several (very) different individuals together, strapped a bunch of sensors to their bodies to record biometric data ranging from heart rate to respiration to brain activity, and then handed them keys to the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The results are explained in a series of videos, devoted to each driver, showing how different people react to the Corvette's performance.
If, like your author, you're a nerd for medical science, this is going to be a fascinating set of videos. If not, it's still pretty cool to see how the body of someone with racing experience, like Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, reacts to tracking a car like the Corvette Stingray compared to the owner of legendary Detroit barbecue joint, Slows BBQ. Take a look below for all six videos from the series, or hop over to the Corvette Vimeo channel for the interactive experience, where you can see all the different metrics.
