This car is owned by its original purchaser, a long-time GM Design Engineer, now retired. We have extensive documentation including the original order form, invoice, and window sticker for the car. TOO MUCH TO LIST - all work performed is documented.
Werner Meier, Masterworks Automotive Services is responsible for the work performed during this meticulous restoration. Documents detailing all work performed are included along with pictures taken during the restoration. We'll do our best to detail this work.
Many of our photos of this perennial favorite American Sports Car were taken at the Dallas Love Field Frontiers of Flight Museum, located only minutes from our showroom. Be sure to visit the Flight Museum if you find yourself in Dallas, Texas.
The exterior was originally silver. It has been professionally re-finished in black base/clearcoat. The paint and body is in excellent condition to say the least. The body panels align correctly throughout. This is a tight fitting Vette and a pleasure to drive.
The laser strip fade along either "shark gill" is reminiscent of the 1982 Collector's Edition. This car is a 25th Silver Anniversary edition.
The custom-fabricated side exhaust system fits this Corvette's persona to perfection. Be sure to listen to the car in our video! It sounds as perfect as a Corvette can. The exhaust support brackets are custom fabricated. These pipes are so well done, they appear factory. During the side exhaust installation, the exhaust manifolds were re-conditioned and studs/nuts replaced.
Under the hood is the rebuilt original L-48 350 c.i. V8. The engine runs excellent and is paired with the overhauled original 4-speed Muncie transmission. During the engine overhaul, gaskets, hoses, mounts, etc were replaced along with engine compartment components including the alternator, starter, A/C compressor, heater box seals, and much more. The cooling system has been completely gone through as well. A Griffin Aluminum radiator has been installed along with a new fan shroud, radiator seal kit, hoses, and fan clutch. The evaporator was replaced with the A/C compressor. The engine core support has also been replaced.
The carburetor has been rebuilt. The fuel pump was replaced along with fuel lines, fasteners and fittings as need. The idle stop solenoid was replaced along with the air cleaner assembly. The ignition system has been completely gone through. The distributor has been rebuilt, plugs, wires, heat shields replaced, etc. The transmission build detailed include a freshly surfaced flywheel, pressure plate and clutch replaced. The clutch fork pivot stud, and rod pin were replaced along with the transmission mount. The transmission tunnel insulation was also replaced. The frame itself is un-detailed and original throughout.
The undercarriage is in excellent condition, showing all of the extensive suspension work done. Remember, this is a TRUE 1-owner vehicle, never exchanging hands since this gentleman took possession of the car in late 1977. Work performed includes the park brake handle and cable replaced along with the cable guides, E-brake shoes and more. The 4-wheel-disc braking system has been attended to with turned front and rear rotors, replaced brake lines, calipers and brake pads. The master cylinder has also been rebuilt and sleeved for long-term reliability.
The front suspension has been rebuilt with new ball joints, tie rods, and idler arm control bushings. The rear suspension work includes replaced spindle bearings, seals, and pinion isolator assembly. The half shaft U-joints have been replaced along with the strut rod bushings. The differential itself has been overhauled with replaced output yokes, springs, a clutch pack, bearings, and side gears replaced. The shock absorbers have been replaced along with the springs.
The headlight actuator bushings, spring, sleeves, and screws have been replaced along with the vacuum hoses. They work excellent. Both the front and rear fascia's have been replaced with fiberglass units for an improved fit and finish. The emblems have been replaced as well. The door weatherstrip has been replaced along with the door glass cushions, door handles, seals, and power antenna assembly. The windows have been tinted with 3M film.
Open the doors to 1978. This interior is in excellent condition.
The seating has been completely gone through and fitted with this quality genuine leather. The owner decided to replace the original seats with what he felt were the more comfortable seats of an 82 Corvette.
The center console houses the power window switches, air conditioning controls, auxillary gauges and the original 4-speed shifter. The stereo is a Kenwood AM/FM cassette.
The dash and instruments are functional and detailed. The clock is not working. The mileage of 68,811 is original to the car according to the original owner.
The rear storage compartments are in excellent condition.
The T-top roof panel inserts are also in great shape.
The door panels are in excellent condition and the door undersides are solid.
This is your opportunity to own a very special Corvette.
