Every car has a history.  This car has been in the family since 1980.  I bought it as second owner with ~45K miles on it. Original color is Metallic Brown.  Drove for 2 years then repainted it same color.  Then decided to paint it again, this time Metallic Blue.  Car was a "Sunday" driver and was stored more than driven, hence the original 52K miles.  Got married, got divorced and car went to ex-wife in settlement.  Bought car back from her a year later and decided to do full mechanical/ cosmetic restoration.  That was in 1995.  Car has always been garaged.  It is about 85% done, needs to be put together and paint.  Why am I selling?  Things change with time, I no longer have the passion for this car and have started another project, it needs to go.  So now for the details.

Body
- Original no-hit body.  Paint chemically stripped then sanded down to bare SMC panels.  Stress cracks (typical) fixed with resin and fiberglass mat, NOT BONDO. Wheel well lips are EXCELLENT no damage or repair.  Door to front fender gap (typical for this year) also corrected with resin and mat.  Filler only used to straighten out waves/ dips in factory panels.  Bonding seam filler on front/ rear fenders redone.  What you see in pictures is bare body with filler added as described, no primer shot to hide defects!  90% stripped except for hood and head lamp doors/ jambs.

- Original front and rear urethane bumper covers eventual disintegrated/ cracked from age and could not save.  New fiberglass rear bumper from ACI included.  Will need new front bumper cover.  Have original and new bumper retainers for mounting.  Original grille inserts/ park lamps and rear lights, markers.  Some are new, some are cracked, I was going to replace all anyway.  Doors had latches and handles removed for body prep.  Have original rear bumper letters and fender scripts, some new door hardware.

Frame/ Suspension
-  Body on restoration completed to frame/ suspension.  NEW body to frame cushion mounts installed.  Frame and suspension components/ cross members media blasted, PPG epoxy and single stage urethane spray finish ( no rattle can resto here).  Underside of body/ attached brackets painted as well. Frame is in excellent rust free condition.  Both upper and lower A-arms rebuilt with NEW MOOG components (ball joints, bushings), as is new inner/ outer tie rod ends. Original steering box in excellent condition.  NEW NOS GM radiator core support installed.  Needs front shocks.  Will need alignment,  hand set to move around only.

- Rear suspension has NEW fiberglass mono-leaf spring from Vette Brakes along with new hardware and camber bracket, new bushings installed in camber rods.  New rubber cushions installed in differential mounting beam to body.  Posi rebuilt by DTS with new 3.55 gear set (was 3.08).  Original rear trailing arms REBUILT by Bairs Corvette in PA, new bearings, blasted and epoxy coated.  They are better than new!  New trailing arm mounting hardware with Stainless Steel shims.  Half shafts blasted and PPG painted, new HD u-joints.  New shocks.

Wheels/ Brakes
- 4 wheels disc calipers were rebuilt with Stainless Steel sleeves at one time.  I started to prep for epoxy, then decided to powder coat but stopped.  I have all NEW pistons/ seals/ SS bleeders to freshen these up.  They need to be cleaned and painted.  All NEW Stainless Steel brake lines included from INLINE TUBE, some already installed.  NEW disc backing plates on all 4 corners.  NEW rubber brake lines and various fitting included.  Rotors were turned and light coat of paint applied to prevent rust.  Some light flash rust on rear rotors from sitting.  Original 15" steel rally wheels, no rust.  Original center caps and trim rings, excellent condition. Tires are rollers but could be used.

Drive Train
- You get 2 engines.  The original stock never rebuilt 350 long block with matching stamped VIN that was pulled years ago and put in storage, and current engine which is a 1969 350 ci 300 HP w/ 4-bolt mains.  This was rebuilt ~4k miles ago with new .030 over pistons bearings, ect. Original 1974 heads had valve job at one time and can run unleaded gas.  Intake is a Edelbrock dual plane painted orange.  Original tach drive distributor with Mallory pointless trigger added.  Rebuilt quadrajet carb.  Mild COMP cam added during rebuild for improved power (not a muscle car cam that idles like crap). Engine paint is flaking probably because I used some cheap paint back then.  Should be repainted with the newer better stuff for appearance.

-  Original Turbo 400 automatic and torque converter.  This was rebuilt by AAMCO back in ~1981 just after I got the car, started to slip so dad paid to fix it as I did not have the $$ back then.  Drive shaft media blasted and PPG painted, needs u-joints installed.

Custom Saddle Interior
-  All NEW seat cushions/ leather seat covers/ seat backs/  hardware as needed. Complete NEW cut pile carpet set installed with jute padding.  NEW A pillar moldings.  NEW storage compartment frames and doors, will need new fiber bins.  NEW rear window surround.  NEW emergency brake cover.  Original Tilt/ Telescope/ Steering wheel in excellent condition.  NEW front side kick panels. NEW door panels (not installed) along with original door panels and chrome hardware (will need to transfer).  The interior is 99% restored, will need the paint around steering column touched up for some wear around the key area, the black out around the speedo/ tach will need to be touched up, door panels will need to be installed.

Misc
-  NEW gas tank and mounting straps with new GM cap, needs new sender unit to be installed. NEW e-brake cable. Power steering cylinder needs to be cleaned and installed. Original A/C compressor, condenser,  needs new hoses to be installed.  Have new GM W/S jar/ neck.  Have numerous new bolts/ clips/ misc hardware in bags/ boxes.  Original excellent dual chrome mirrors.  NEW GM radiator shroud extension.  There is more, just can't remember everything.  ALL goes with car, don't believe anything is missing. Every attempt to find all stored parts for this car has been made down to original bagged screws and bolts, etc.

Currently car does not have engine or transmission installed.  I can drop these back in if you need for transportation, just give me a few days notice before pick up.  Original engine long block will go as is, will help load.  All small loose parts in boxes, all others as is.  Doors do not not have latches installed, will need strap to keep closed during transport.  You will need a trailer with winch/ come-a-long, and tie downs to bring this Vette home.  I've tried to accurately describe this car to the best of my abilities and recollection.    And lastly, sold as is, where is due to age of vehicle.  Please ask questions before bidding. Thank you.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.

Race Recap: 2013 Twelve Hours of Sebring, cakewalk up front, grindfest out back [w/spoilers]

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

This year's 12 Hours of Sebring wasn't exactly a foregone conclusion because we're still talking about racing, and anything can happen when the speeds are as high as the adrenaline and the desire. But we're still talking about Audi bringing it's two top-spec racers - and its huge budget and its nearly neurotic attention to detail - to a race that it uses as a test bed for The 24 Hours of Le Mans and as a way to open the endurance racing season with a victory.
Besides, 12 hours is a long time, especially at Sebring, and things didn't go all Audi's way. On top of that, although it was a pretty quiet race, behind the Audis things got even grimier, with plenty of battles, plenty of mechanical issues, and the new BMW Z4 GTE and Viper GTS-R being race tested. Oh, and that brand new chromed-out DeltaWing...

Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.
