1965 Corvette Coupe Restomod built using a Jamison Corvette, 3 tube NASCAR style chassis with a complete 1996
Corvette LT4 driveline. Car was completed 10 yrs ago and only driven 7500 miles since completion. Body and paint
are excellent. Body fit and lines are laser straight, much improved over factory build. Paint color is a metallic
Burgundy with a black interior. The quarter panels were widened 2" and lower flairs added to accommodate the larger
wheels and tires of the donor driveline...this was done while maintaining the original body lines and wheel opening
characteristics. The 65 roof vent "gill" openings were removed to give a cleaner look. All the chrome was replated
and the stainless polished. Car was initially built with coil overs all around but after driving was converted to
the original rear fiberglass transverse spring that gave a better handling ride and less hop in tight turns ( rear
original coil overs go with car).
The interior uses the 1996 black leather seats. The dash was converted to accommodate Autometer Ultralite gauges
with the clock built to match the gauges. Vintage Air Surefit A/C system was installed using the original Chev A/C
compressor. The car still retains its fresh air vents for seasonal air flow. All of the interior trim components
were replaced at the time of build ie. rugs, door panels, headliner, dash pads, etc. All window glass is excellent
and factory tinted. Factory power windows are fully functional. Power 1965 antenna is also functional and factory
located. The Nardi steering wheel is in excellent condition and was signed by Duntov in 1992 and the glove box door
signed in 1994, while I attended NCRS National conventions.
The engine is a 1996 stock LT4 with a reprogrammed computer to match installed components and extra power. Coated
block hugger headers are installed and run into 2.25" pipes with and X pipe and Magnaflow mufflers, exiting thru
the rear valance with 1969 tips. 1996 factory power steering (rack and pinion) and cooler is utilized. 1996 brake
components, booster and 13" front rotors are present and give great stopping ability. Cooling is accomplished using
the 1996 radiator and fan assys. A new water pump and thermostat was fitted at build time as well as new
distributor to prevent future problems ( these items have always been problems with LT engines). The transmission
is ZF 6 spd manual. The clutch assy and slave cylinder was replaced with new when the car was built. The rear is a
3:42 Dana 44 which was the optional rear and a heavy duty piece.
The car has chrome ZO6 style wheels with new Goodyear F1 Z rated tires, front 255/45 r17 and rear 285/40 r17. The
1996 spare tire carrier and spare is mounted under the car in the original factory position and can be utilized if
required. Headlamps were updated using replacement halogen bulb type lamps in place of sealed beams. Headlamps work
well with rebuilt motors.
The Corvette is a pleasure to drive and enjoy. It always attracts a crowd and everyone wants to know how the wheels
and tires were fitted until they realize the full modifications. It runs on mid grade gas and gets 25 miles to the
gallon (about 1800 rpm at 80). The entire underside of the car was sprayed with Pick up bed Rhino liner(black)
before the body was installed on the frame. The car can be bought and driven home w/o worry.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Convertible offers a few more views before reveal

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Over the weekend, Chevrolet released its first images of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now, ahead of the droptop's official introduction tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker has given us a few more shots of the softop C7 showing off the car's rump albeit from a high, strategically positioned angle.
From this angle, it's hard to get a sense for how long and flat the decklid really is, but we can easily see that, like the rest of the C7's design, the new convertible's decklid and tonneau cover are far more detailed than the current car. We also get a better look at the rear haunches sans brake vents, which have apparently been moved to underneath the car in order to accommodate the top's hard cover.
As for the overall styling of the C7 convertible, with the top erected, we get some idea of what a coupe design (as opposed to the Stingray's fastback shape) would look like on this car. The C5 Corvette most recently had a coupe model that did away with the large glass hatchback, and we recently reported on a low-cost "coupe" model potentially being added to the C7's repertoire.

The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: "Luxury, power, refinement, handling"

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Not including the women and men who built it, the 2014 Chevrolet SS has only been seen in person by a piddling number of people - fewer humans than would fill the gymnasium at a high school volleyball game. Not including the men and women who built it, no one has driven it. Even so, it is already saddled with two controversies: the way it looks and the way it shifts.
First to that shifting. Did we love the last Americanized Holden, the awesomely sportsome Pontiac G8 GXP, and its six-speed manual? Of course. Do we wish the SS came with a six-speed manual? Of course. But we'd like a toboggan to come with a manual transmission. We'd put a manual transmission on a weasel if we could because we're just wired that way; if it moves, it should come with a stick and a clutch. Or at least the option.
Let's climb down off the ledge, though. We haven't driven the SS and we have no idea how good (or not) the automatic is. And the Hobson's Choice in transmissions when it comes to sport sedans like the BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Jaguar XFR-S and, oh yeah, cars-that-really-should-have-manuals like the Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R and Porsche 918 and every single Lamborghini and Ferrari, for instance, hasn't stopped us from enjoying what is clearly the gruesome, dual-clutched demise of Western automotive civilization. Because in spite of our ululations at the dying of the six-speed light, we understand.

Next Corvette ZR1 to get 700 horsepower?

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

Word has it General Motors may offer as much as 700 horsepower in the C7 Corvette ZR1. Motor Trend reports the next Corvette Z06 will continue to rely on its naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 engine for thrust, but the lump will deliver substantially more power. How much more? MT says the engine could deliver up to 600 ponies. That's a jump of 95 horsepower over the current Z06, though no figures have been finalized as of yet. Right now, GM is reportedly waiting to see what sort of grunt it can glean from the next ZR1.
The automaker has already made it clear it will resurrect the LT5 name for the new supercharged V8, and if GM is already pulling 600 from the Z06, the big dog ZR1 would theoretically offer 700 horsepower. Either way, the range-topping Corvette will be suitably insulated from its less potent siblings. Stay tuned. We aren't likely to see the Z06 for at least a year, with the ZR1 trailing along at some point there after.
