1963 Chevy Corvair Coupe, Monza 900 Automatic.

Time to sell my 1963 Corvair Monza 900, Automatic. I was just given a new Grate Dane and need a larger vehicle to move him around in. This Corvair is in nice shape with three rips in the driver's seat along the seam and the headliner in the rear passenger side needs new stitching. It does have the typical minor transmission drip - it likes to mark its spot, otherwise it cruses nicely at 70 on the highway and stops when asked with confidence. Has new K&N Air filters, has just had an oil change and new belt installed. Comes with an extra oil filter and belt, new gas cap and a reproduction owner’s manual. No other known issues. It has 57,600 original miles (title states "original") which will change as it is driven on weekends and it has a clean Virginia Title in my name. Added features include the 1/2 vinyl landau top, luggage rack, fender skirts, electronic fuel pump, fender signal lights, door and trunk trim, extra insignias. Registered as a historical vehicle, it comes with never before used 1963 VA plates which will stay with the car and other items that the previous owner added over the years. It has a full size car cover as well and duel exhausts. Both heat vents open and close automatically as needed when the engine heats up as well. Back seat folds down.

The car is located in Northern Virginia, in Vienna VA, zip is 22182 and is garaged. There is minor rust here and there which you would normally see on a 51 year old car. It has been painted during its life and may have had some minor body fill applied in its history. This car looks great at 2 feet. It has an FM booster in the glove compartment and used to have two antennas - it now has one. Wind shield wipers appear to be original then they work fine. In the trunk is an original glass bottle for extra wind shield fluid and a jack - no rust.

The car can be driven away with confidence. It is air cooled, has good tires but no spare. It cruses nicely at 70 and has lots of extra power available - I haven't taken it over 75 but it can easily do that if the next driver wanted an interesting experience.

For Those in Northern Virginia:
Saturday morning (June 14th), I will be at Kate's Cars & Coffee in Great Falls at 760 Walker Rd, Great Falls, VA 22066 - which runs from 6:30AM - 8:30AM in case anyone would like to have a look at it in person. I am usually the only Corvair on site. I will have a For Sale sign on it.

Please come and view the car before bidding so you know what you are bidding on. It is a unique piece of automotive art and attracts a lot of comments and memories from others who have either had one or had parents with one in the past.

If you would like to see the car at another time, I am located near Huntermill Road and Dulles Toll Road in the Vienna/Reston area.

Chevrolet Camaros at SEMA are a mobile accessory catalog

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

Chevy's goal at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week seems to be to show as much of its Performance and Accessories catalog as possible. That's why it brought three different Camaros - two with V8s and one powered by a V6 - with all of the best goodies from the catalog already fitted.
We gave a more in-depth recap of the Performance Camaro V8 Concept, the Performance Camaro V6 Concept and the Performance Garage Concept already, but we figured you'd like a short recap for each. It should be noted, though, that you can order all of the items you see here for your own Camaro, so be sure to take a long, hard look at our live galleries, just in case you're in the market for some mods.
Essentially, the Performance Garage Concept and the Performance V8 Concept are the same car - the only difference is that the later features a whole host of aesthetic tweaks in addition to its aftermarket, shorty exhaust headers and 2.75-inch exhaust. (The Performance Garage Concept has been usefully placed on its side; the better to see the new parts added to the vehicle.) The Performance V6 Concept is notable because, despite being a V6, there's no shortage of performance goodies fitted. All three of the Performance Camaros benefit from items from the Camaro ZL1, which can also be ordered through the catalog.

First 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray spotted crashed in the wild

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

This restyled blue 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is wearing manufacturer plates, and it appears to be the same one seen around the internet in various pictures lately. This crash is likely not part of the Chevrolet testing regimen, however. Digital Corvettes forum member gpetry posted the shot with a note: "got this picture e-mailed from a friend in Arizona last week..." No circumstances are given, other than the incident occurred in the thick of a set of curvy roads, and the coupe ping-ponged off a guardrail and into the rock wall. Hopefully everyone involved in the incident walked away.
It may not be a pretty thing to see, a crashed sports car that's not even available for sale yet, but rest easy. Many pre-production cars are used for development and then unceremoniously crushed and scrapped, anyway. If that's the case here, that makes this wrecked 'Vette less of a tragedy and more of a case of exceptional efficiency.

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.
