1970 Chevelle SS396 Hardtop - For Sale is this beautifully preserved, original Chevy Chevelle SS Hartop muscle car.  I recently purchased this from the owner who has had this vehicle in storage (unregistered) since 1987!  The odometer reading of 65,123 is believed to be the original mileage.  This is a mechanically sound, strong running, original SS396.  The paint is worn and the clearcoat is gone, but there is very little rust and only minor body work needed.  The interior is a rare Bright Blue in excellent condition (see pics).

I started the restoration project, but I already have a 1970 Chevelle convertible that has my primary attention.  Here is what I've done to get this car back on the road:
  • All 4 new BF Goodrich tires
  • Repaired original SS rims
  • New fuel tank, pump, and lines
  • Completely replaced all belts & hoses
  • New radiator
  • Completely replaced all oils & fluids
  • New battery
  • New shocks
  • Tune up
  • New brakes
  • Replaced original Rochester quadrajet carb with a new Holley double pumper (original Rochester goes with the car)
  • All new 2-1/2" Magnaflo exhaust with original SS chrome tips
  • New matching floor mats & trunk carpet (not shown)
  • New decals, rubber stripping and other purchased parts, not yet installed, go with the car!
The Chevelle is the quintessential muscle car.  This car is already a driver.  All it needs is a little TLC and a paint job and this car is ready to cruise. The only known problem with the car is the AC/Heater motor needs to be replaced.

This car is stored in Odessa, TX.  Buyer is responsible for pick up.  Serious bidders ONLY!!

Watch NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon put one over on a used car dealer... sorta

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.
Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself. Check it out below.

Are you the 2014 Corvette Grand Sport?

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

When are stripes more than just stripes? Follow up question: Is the product development team at Chevrolet really cocky enough to hide the next C7 Corvette variant in plain sight? This very recently spotted, and ostensibly obscured C7 asks a lot more questions than it answers, but there's at least some evidence to support that it might be the next Corvette Grand Sport.
The first and most obvious tip-off that something is up with this 'Vette revolves around those silver stripes. Obviously the stripes themselves don't necessarily denote a new model. However, when Chevy recently launched its "colorizer" website for the Stingray, there was no provision made for racing stripes - solid colors only.
Grand Sport exhibit number two is actually an incriminating lack of badges. The production Corvettes we've seen to date have all carried Stingray badges on their fenders, just behind the vent. The car seen in these images has no such badges, which is an intriguing omission on an car that looks like a production-spec vehicle otherwise.

"Turbo" Chevrolet Camaro is a 700-HP fantasy car come to life [w/video]

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

For a concept car built to promote an animated movie about a snail that wants to go racing, this thing ain't half bad. The outsized monster you see before you started life as a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and then went through a big-time Hollywood makeover before being positioned on the Chevrolet stand here in Chicago.
This 2013 "Turbo" Camaro Coupe is getting the promotion machine ratcheted up for a new DreamWorks tale by the name of, you guessed it, Turbo. Coming this summer, the movie will follow one snail's quest to become a race driver worthy of making the cut at the Indy 500. Like many DreamWorks vehicles before it, we're guessing that the petrolhead snail will star in a movie that adults (especially racing fans) with have no trouble watching with their kids. Check out the trailer below to see if you agree.
As for the car, we're told that it is "instrumental" in transforming Turbo from snail into racer. Helping the beastly pony car in this mighty task, is an ankle-cracking front splitter matched by a ungodly huge rear wing out back, a COPO hood and a supercharged (yes, supercharged) V8 engine making more than 700 horsepower. 24-inch wheels all the way around - 10-inches wide in front and 15-inches wide in back - should allow the "Turbo" Camaro to hook up with ease, as well.
