1968 Chevelle 300 Deluxe 2 door post L79 Tribute

You are bidding on a very nice 300 Deluxe Survivor that was originally a six cylinder Powerglide car.  Originally purchased at Ross Chevrolet, in St. Petersburg, Florida, this car has only 84,878 miles.  I have the original sales contract, manuals, brochures, and some of the original broadcast sheet.  Car has been mentioned on a couple of websites as the Granny car from Florida.  Very, very original before I started the conversion.

  • Original panels and virtually rust free.  There is some very slight bubbling on the lower rear quarters, but you have to look.  (total disclosure)
  • Excellent rust free floor pans.
  • Trunk pan is 99% perfect and original with correct mat.  (some slight rust right at the very top of the rear trunk.  (photo will show)  Very easy fix or leave it.
  • Original perfect glass.
  • Original perfect trim.
  • Very nice original style interior with original doors panels, kick panels, etc.
  • Brand new ACC carpet with underlayment for a 4 speed car.  I have the original rubber mat, but cracked in places and these are impossible to find.
  • Dash is perfect as seen in photos.  Dash pad is perfect.
  • Car has always been indoors.
  • Rust free chassis in original condition.
  • Original perfect grill.
  • Bumpers are perfect, dent and ding free with excellent chrome.
  • No power steering, no power brakes, and radio delete from the factory with perfect original block off plate.
  • Column shifted Powerglide is still in place and functions properly.  Drives fine.
  • Car is in incredible original condition with on 84,878 original miles.
  • 14 inch rims with correct dog dish hubcaps.  (very nice)
  • Coker 14" Redline Radials.
  • Lenses, lights, signals, are excellent
  • One repaint in original Palamino Ivory
  • Not detailed under the hood, but not bad.  (driver)
Engine

  • Correct 1968 327 block for the L79 (large journal)
  • Correct casting number L79 Quadrajet intake.  (325 Horse 327 in 1968)  Went from aluminum to cast iron in 1968.
  • Correct exhaust manifolds (L79) casting numbers.
  • Correct completely refurbished 2.02-1.60 L79 casting heads.
  • Aluminum Big Block radiator.  (aftermarket)
  • Less than 500 miles on the engine.
  • Everything new inside the motor.
  • L79 Reproduction cam.
  • Converted to 383 stroker internally with balanced rotating assembly.  9.5 to one motor for pump gas driving.
  • Quick, yet functional.
  • Excellent oil pressure and runs cool.
  • Complete Pypes exhaust system front to rear with X crossover.
  • Incredible sound and performance.
  • Currently has Holley 750 in place of the Quadrajet.  It is on an adapter.  I like Holleys better and can work on them.
  • Ten bolt original rearend is in place.
Opportunities...just want to be totally honest.  This is a 99% totally rust free survivor.

  • Powerglide works fine, but does leak around the sector and possibly the front seal.  Does not affect function and does not pour out, but it does make a spot.  Driving is no issue.
  • One door panel has a tear shown in photo.
  • Some minor trunk rust at the very top rear step up of the trunk.  Floors, trunk, etc are excellent.
  • Some very minor bubbling on the lower rear quarters.
Additional stuff...I was about to convert this car to a 4 speed, and here is what you get if it meets reserve.

  • Muncie 4 speed M20 with linkage, but no stick. Working when removed trans with no known issues.
  • Reproduction correct 4 speed hump.
  • Correct 1968 Steering column mask to replace column shifter when converted.
Details....car is very, very nice in original condition.  Reserve is realistic and actually low for this rare body style and conversion.  Shipping is up to you.  Car is in my home shop, and can be inspected by appointment.  I will assist shipping company by meeting them and will photograph prior to leaving.  I suggest you ask any question or come see the car in person.  It is always better that way. Check my feedback....straight up honest.  Thanks for looking.

Autoblog Podcast #327:

GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
