Original 1966 Chevelle Super Sport. This is a true RUST FREE 138 VIN car and it has the 396 big block NOM motor (casting number 3999290) with a turbo 400 auto transmission. I suspect the motor is bored and stroked given how strong it runs but I don't know this for a fact, as I have not been inside the motor. The cylinder heads are casting number 3856208 with big rectangular ports (most likely from a 1965 396/425 HP or Z-16/L37 Chevelle) and from the VIN (138176Z) we know this is a true, California Super Sport car manufactured at the Freemont, California plant. The firewall Trim Tag paint code (AA) indicates an original Tuxedo Black exterior color while the trim code (763) indicates it was originally supplied with Black Vinyl Bucket Seats. This car is rust free. While the car currently has a Turbo 400 auto trans, it was originally a 4-speed car and even has the clutch pedal assembly still in place. This would be an easy conversion if you wanted to go back to a manual transmission set up.

This car was built for pro-street and does drive good on the street. It has the fiberglass hood, trunk, and bumpers. Has Center Line Wheels , It also has a 4-link rear suspension with a set of Mickey Thompson 29X12.50-15LT tires that have some tread remaining, while still leaving room for a set of much wider tires if you wanted to mount them. It has a 4-link rear suspension with a 12 bolt rear end. Front power disc brakes with drilled and slotted front rotors, 7in. Dual diaphragm booster and rear drum brakes, stops great. The rear was tubbed for bigger tires and wheels and the job was done in a very professionally manner. The original black back seat base cushion and seat back are included with the car.

This Big Block motor runs very strong with a ratchet / slapstick B&M shifter making it a blast to drive. While I don't know all the details of the motor build, this is one of the strongest (and best sounding) drivetrains I've heard. The former owner / builder says it is running 13:1 compression. It has a Holley Strip Dominator single plane intake, with a Holley (List 4780-2) 800 CFM carburetor and Crane roller-rockers with huge headers and mufflers. MSD Ignition box with pro billet distributor and msd coil. Electric fuel pump. The previous owner also told me that it has 4:10 gears to put the power down. Here is a link a video to give an idea of how strong this motor sounds (http://youtu.be/rVHGw8j-1_k), but it still doesn't capture it as well as it does in person. This car is an absolute head-turner when it idles by with the nasty sounding motor.

The interior is clean as well. It still has racing bucket seats and driver side racing seat belts, the carpet is clean, and the headliner is clean and still in place. It has the optional full factory dash gauge package with two supplemental, after market (temperature and oil pressure) gauges mounted under the dash with a functioning fuel pressure gauge mounted directly in front of the driver's line of sight. It has an aftermarket tachometer mounted on the steering column that needs to be better attached to the column. The radio is missing though the dash does not appear to have ever been cut in anyway. All the glass windows are operational and in place. The interior door panels (and rear panel behind the rear seat between the wheel wells) have been replaced with nice aluminum panels but could be replaced with factory door panels if wanted to put it back to a stock configuration. Stainless steel sill plates.

The body of the car is in great shape. Base coat clear coat paint. All lights work. All trim is in great shape. There is no rust that I can find on the car. The black paint has a nice gloss, but has some nicks and surface scratches.

GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.

Watch this time-lapse build of the Chevy SS for NASCAR

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

There's only about a week left until we get our first look at the production version of the 2014 Chevrolet SS sedan, but Chevrolet NASCAR teams have been looking at the race version of the car all winter. Autoweek has posted a really neat time-lapse video showing just a portion of what it takes to build one of NASCAR's new Gen6 stock cars.
Though the video is quite brief, it does show almost the entire build process starting with just the car's nose, and it gives us a good look at how integral the template is to the final product. As a bonus, Hendrick Motorsports also provided some videos showing two of its teams performing pit stop tests over the winter. The second video shows some of the more detailed aspects of the racecar's rear end, including the stock-looking trunk cutout and a newly mandated rear bumper extension that will be used on super speedways like Daytona and Talladega.
To see what Team Chevy has been up to all off-season, check out all three videos posted after the jump.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.
