Street Machines Texas is proud to present this genuine Z-11 '69 Camaro Pace Car. There were 3,675 of the pace car Z-11 optioned tribute cars built by GM in 1969. 1969 would be the 2nd pace car for the Camaro and arguably the most attractive. The 1969 Camaro boasted new aggressive styling throughout the exterior and interior. With its exclusive Dover White Paint with Hugger Orange Stripes & bulging body panels, these cars are certainly head-turners. This example is powered by its original 350/300HP smallblock V8 engine and showcases all of its factory options. This is a garaged example that is original in most respects & all equipment with exception of a re-spray in the past. Little history is known on this Texas car, but we will do our best to showcase it. Enjoy the presentation and feel free to contact myself, Sam, direct at 972-748-6389 with any questions.

This Norwood-built example is a quality driver ready to own and enjoy. The exterior displays an older refinish in the correct Dover White & Z-11 specific orange stripes. Hand pinstriping was laid down along with body lines to accentuate the '69s beautiful lines. The paint is in good condition with a few minor flaws if you look closely. The body itself is very straight. The doors, trunk, and hood line up correctly. There are some paint chip touch-ups along the door edge and the trunk lid edge you can see if you look closely. This is a very attractive and dry climate Camaro.

Open the doors to 1969. The interior features the striking original Orange Houndstooth configuration & standard equipment along with an optional AM/FM Delco radio, factory tachometer, and center console. You could even get these cars with column-shifted transmissions in some models.

Another unusual thing about this Camaro is the factory air conditioning and manual top. Most of the cars were equipped with power-operated tops from my research.

Further inspection of the interior will confirm that this is a garage-kept example. The current owner has had the car for 13-years and it hasn't changed a bit since he took ownership. The car was purchased off a showroom in central Texas after he sold his '67 RS/SS 396 White & Blue Pace Car convertible.

The dash displays the factory speedometer and tachometer along with the optional clock. The 80,148 miles are certainly original to the car, although I don't have mileage logs to verify this.

Under the hood is the original and previously rebuilt 350 cubic inch V8 rated at 300 horsepower. This 4-bolt block retains the correct casting of 3932388 and the engine pad stamping is T0419HB, also matching this car's production dates. The engine runs very smooth and strong. It is paired with the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission.

Accessories include power front disc brakes, power steering and rare factory air conditioning. An Optima battery has been added. 1969 would be the first year for the optional cowl induction hood on Camaro. This example is complete with its correct cowl breather & seal. Further inspection will confirm clean and detailed inner fender wells and core support sheet metal throughout.

The Norwood built Z-11 Camaros had Z11 stamped on the firewall tag while the LA built cars did not. This is a Norwood example. If you look closely, you can see some ripple to the firewall near the cowl tag where the car was possibly repaired at some point in its life. I suspect a fender-bender of some kind in the 1970s, although every lines up as it should both externally and underneath. The car is a pleasure to drive.

The undercarriage displays excellent original sheet metal throughout. The floorboards are indicative of a dry-climate car. The subframe appears to retain its original bushings while the front end was rebuilt previously. The rear end is the original 12-bolt posi-traction unit. This undercarriage hasn't been detailed out, so you can see how solid it is.

This is a very attractive Camaro. With spoilers and hide-away headlights, this is certainly a mean-machine. The glass is in good condition throughout as is the rubber weatherstrip.

The convertible top has been replaced in the past, judging by its great condition. It is manually operated and hidden with a hugger orange boot when retracted.

The muscular stance is aided by the original rolling stock of 15-inch Rally wheels wrapped in timeless B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As which have plenty of tread front to back.

I found a pretty good paint chip area there on the rear tail light panel along with an isolated area of bubbles just in front of the drivers door. These spots have been there for 13-years and haven't changed any in that time.

UAW to vote on strike at Kentucky Corvette plant

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

The current wait time for a new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is well, not short. With word of a strike at the Bowling Green, KY factory responsible for seventh-generation sports car, though, that wait time could end up growing substantially.
Now, a strike is still a ways off. UAW Local 2164, which represents the 800 workers responsible for screwing the Corvette together, is set to vote on authorizing a strike today, but even if the employees give the action a go, it's far from a sure thing. According to The Tennessean, both regional and national union officials would need to put their stamp of approval on strike action.
"The membership has to vote to strike, but it's just a step in the process," said Gary Casteel, the UAW's Region 8 director and one of the people that would need to authorize a strike action. Casteel told The Tennessean, "It's purely a local situation, though. They are having some issues with the local management."

2014 Chevy Silverado priced from *$24,585, V8 gets better economy than Ford EcoBoost V6

Mon, 01 Apr 2013

Chevrolet has thrown down the next hand in the pickup truck poker wars and revealed at least a couple of potential aces - depending on which numbers matter most to you. The 2014 2014 Silverado 1500 with its 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gets 335 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, is mated to a six-speed automatic, can tow 11,500 pounds with the optional Max Trailer Package and costs the same as the outgoing Silverado, $24,585 (*including $995 destination fee). Chevy says the Silverado also stands atop the fuel economy charts when comparing any competitor with a V8 engine - and some competitors with V6 engines. The two-wheel drive model returns 16 miles per gallon city, 23 mpg highway, 19 mpg combined in two-wheel drive guise and 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined as a four-wheel drive.
For context around those numbers, the most fuel efficient V8-powered 2013 Ford F-150 pickups lose about two mpg in every metric compared to the Silverado, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost returning 16 city, 18 highway and 22 combined in two-wheel drive. However, that EcoBoost does have 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. You can get a Ram 1500 with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 25 mpg highway, but it has 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The 2013 Ram with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and its 395 hp and 407 lb-ft drops one mpg in every category to the Silverado. Its tow rating is 200 pounds beyond its nearest competitor, the F-150 with the Max Trailer Tow Package.
Elsewhere, the new Silverado gets a quieter cab with a redesigned interior, a new bed with improved load-management possibilities, disc brakes all around, tweaked steering and suspension, along with free standard scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.

Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.
