I purchased this 1969 camaro convertible in 1995. At the time it had non matching numbers as it still does, but was in driveable condition. As I drove it over the next 3 and a half years I was steady buying parts for its refurbishment, including orginal chevy body panels as well as many other OEM parts. In the spring of 1999 my best friend and I began the frame off restoration. Between us we have slightly over 80 years of mechanical experience and are both certified first class mechanics as well as state safety inspectors. Restoration was completed in late 2001. Many parts have been replaced and up-grades made since that time. The engine and transmission were replaced by GM crate products 12 hundred miles ago. Many others parts such as the complete clutch assembly, intake manifold, carb, and distributor were also replaced or up-graded at that time. This 69 camaro convertible is a very clean well preserved restoration and is in excellent mechanical condition. Since being restored it has been driven very little and has always been garage kept and covered which helps explain its very good body condition. The black paint is so glossy that many ladies over the years have commented that they can do their hair and makeup from their reflection off the body panels. Keep in mind that this is a twelve year old paint job with a few small scraches and chips. Upon close inspection there are only a few and this is from normal driving conditions. This Camaro performs and handles very well. Most heads turn as you pass by. It has disc brakes on the front and drum on the rear. The factory cowl induction air system works flawlessly. This Camaro has factory in dash tach and console instrument cluster. The entire interior is in excellent condition. The Kenwood am/fm cassette player is made especially for 69 Camaros, as the knobs match the other dash components indicate. The cd juke box is available from Classic Camaro where the stereo was purchased. The four speaker system, dash and doors, produces plenty of sound at highway speeds with the top down. The California Turbo mufflers sound great, but keep engine noise down at low speeds so you don't offend neighbors when coming and going. The engine compartment has lots of chrome and no puddles or spots on the floor below it. No short cuts or cut corners were ever taken in any of the maintenance or restoration work done, which I feel in part is why the car looks, sounds, and performs very much like a new one would. This Camaro while still a used car is extremely reliable and could be driven anywhere.

The following is a list of the factory options: 4 speed manual transmission, console instrument cluster, multi leaf rear springs, factory tach in dash, cowl induction air system, ralley wheels, rear bumper guards.

The following up-grades were made as technology caught up to this camaro: 350 4 bolt main engine, coleman headers and california turbo mufflers, old style starter replaced with mini high torque style that does not over-heat, less efficient rochester 4 barrel with new edelbrock 4 barrel and matching intake manifold, orginal distributor up-graded to new HEI, hurst competition plus shifter replaced factory muncie. THESE MODIFICATIONS WERE DONE TO IMPROVE THE DURABILITY, EFFICENTCY, AND SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE and boy did they!!!!!!!!!!!

Kurt Busch to shake and bake (again) in Ricky Bobby car at Talladega

Sat, 19 Oct 2013

Kurt Busch will channel Ricky Bobby for another NASCAR race, this time driving a Wonder-sponsored Chevrolet SS, in this weekend's Camping World RV Sales 500 at the Talladega Motor Speedway. Unlike past tie-ins, though, there's actually an element of sponsorship here (the "Me" car was done when Busch was running on a team without sponsorship).
It was arranged by Flower Foods, the new owner of the Wonder brand. Wonder was part of the bankrupt Hostess company, which temporarily exited the US market 2012, and set off the Great Twinkie Shortage.
Busch has made something of a habit of channeling characters from famous racing movies, most recently running Tom Cruise's City Chevrolet livery from Days of Thunder in a Nationwide Series race earlier this year. Busch kicked off his movie-inspired antics, though, at Talladega in 2012, when he raced El Diablo's ("It's like... Spanish for like a fighting chicken") "Me" car complete with a cougar on the hood. He even went so far as to channel the lovable idiot that is Ricky Bobby during the race, dropping a few catchphrases about macchiatos and slingshots.

Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.

Tarantino's stolen Chevy Malibu from Pulp Fiction recovered after 19 years [w/video]

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Quentin Tarantino fans will likely remember Vincent Vega's cherry 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Convertible in Pulp Fiction. In a movie drenched in automotive references, the Malibu is very nearly a character in and of itself, and it serves as the subject of Vega's soliloquy about the kind of man who vandalizes another's automobile. It also happened to be Tarantino's personal car when the film was shot, and was apparently stolen shortly after production wrapped. Now police have located the car some 19 years later.
As it turns out, the thieves cloned the vehicle identification number from another '64 Malibu and had the car registered under the new digits. It was then sold to an unsuspecting buyer. Police happened upon the duplicate VINs while investigating another potential theft. Right now, it's unclear whether Tarantino has taken possession of the Chevrolet, if it has remained in the possession of the fraud victim, or whether it's caught somewhere in the gears of justice. Either way, you can catch Vega's memorable thoughts on the car keying in the Pulp Fiction clip below. But consider yourself warned: the video contains explicit language as Not Safe For Work as it comes.
