This is a 1973 Chevy Truck with a 1986 nose. The last 8' of the truck has been double framed and around the steering box is double framed. Full roll cage and rock sliders for protection. The front clip is dovetailed 14 inches. The rear box was shortened 12 inches and the frame 6 inches. The rear box is dovetailed 25 inches in the rear and also brought in 2 inches on each side behind the cab. The motor is a 350 with 30 over pistons, aluminum heads, hydraulic roller cam, gear drive, and edlebrock pro flo efi! A custom sealed Lakewood bellhousing paired with a Centerforce dual friction clutch leads to SM465 tranny with a fine spline shaft. The transfer case is a Offroad Design 203/205 doubler with a ford 32 spline output shaft. Highangle driveshafts with 1350 cvs and 1410s at the axle lead to a Dana 60 front and 14bolt rear that have been shaved for clearence. The front has 5.13 gears and a spool with 35 spline outers and warn hubs. The rear has 5.13 gears and a Detroit Locker. The truck has 4 inch lift springs by Skyjacker, two inch shackle lift, and two inch body lift along with major fender trimming allows room for 44" Boggers on USA 6x6 Double Beadlock Wheels! The truck has cross over steering with a high steer kit and hydro assist by PSC! This truck has a snorkel, custom built bed box, 20 gallon fuel cell, dual Optima batteries, 12000lb mile marker winches front and rear controlled from inside the cab or remotely, 6 or 8 Led rock lights mounted underneath and much much more! The interior has custom dash with autometer guages, racing seats with 5 point harnesses, custom built console with inverter and a custom stereo system with a sony cd player and 4 speakers all easily removeable for deep water. Camaro spy shots show subtly different grille, front fascia
Sun, 03 Feb 2013It looks like there some changes in store for the Chevrolet Camaro - the only thing is that we just don't know what Chevy has up its sleeve. Looking at these spy shots, we'd initially be inclined to think that there is just a minor facelift or a new special edition, but upon closer inspection, there are a few oddities about this car that definitely have us intrigued.
The most obvious difference on this prototype is the slightly restyled front fascia with a smaller lower air inlet and the two-bar grille. Then we get to some of the car's mysterious details. For starters, this fascia has the SS vent above the grille, but it looks to be blocked off. Granted this could just be a one-off piece used for testing. What really piqued our interest was at the rear of the car where it has quad exhaust outlets that are used on the ZL1. Could this be the LS7-powered Camaro that we reported on back in December?
At this point, your guess is as good as ours as to what we're looking at here, so let us know in the comments what you think this could be.
Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war
Sun, 30 Dec 2012A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
GM recalling 250,000 SUVs over door electronics
Mon, 20 Aug 2012After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.
Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.
