The Particulars:

The above is a brief description of our 1997 Chevrolet Silverado LT (K1500) extended cab truck. It is a "local truck" to our home town in Chester County PA. We have used it as a farm truck, as did the first owner, who bought it new. It is a great runner, very strong, and has pulled our 2 horse gooseneck trailer with ease around here and to North Carolina and back. I'd give it a "fair condition" rating (see below for more details). In that condition, the Kelley Blue Book value is right around $4,000.00. I never list with reserves, so if you snag this truck for the minimum bid of $1,499.00, you will have gotten one heck of a good deal.

Cosmetics are not essential to farm trucks! This one has spent most of its life with its tailgate down, which is a good thing, because the tailgate is in rough condition. I backed the lowered tailgate into our horse trailer a couple years ago, and I suspect my predecessor did so once or twice as well. It has been straightened enough that it is functional. The rear step bumper is starting to rust through, but that is the only area of rust through on the truck (see below aboout the cab corners). The rest of the body is in good shape, no major dents, scrapes, etc., but certainly scratches and dings which are normal for a vehicle of this age & mileage. The interior is dirty, as you can see in the pictures, but it could be cleaned up fairly easily and should look presentable. There are no tears in the upholstry, and other than a crack in the dash, the interior should be in physically good shape (again, just needs to be cleaned). The good news: Many Chevy / GMC trucks this age are rusted through at the cab corners. The cab corners on this truck were replaced two years ago, and the paint was matched very well.

There are a couple of other minor mechanical "quirks"  - a slight leak in a power steering line, an issue with a door switch which makes the interior lights stay on (I pulled the fuse a couple years ago), leaky AC compressor which needs charging annually, etc. The airbag light is "on" (which means the airbags need to be "inspected"), and the "check engine" light comes on intermittently. I had the code read on the check engine light a couple weeks ago and it was related to an O2 sensor. These trucks are known for this sort of thing - we put few enough miles on it that it does not require an annual emissions inspection in Pennsylvania, so I have always just let that light go... Also, (as noted above), I replaced all four tires and the spare last fall and they have (maybe) a couple hundred miles on them. Additional recent repairs: Complete fuel pump assembly two years ago, new spark plugs, coil wire, plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, ignition module and drive belt earlier this month (plus an oil change). We knew we were selling the truck and wanted to feel confident that it was in good running order for its new owner.

As you can see from the above, I have gone out of my way to point out the "flaws" here. If you have any questions, please call me at 610 806 3954. Also, you are encouraged to come see / test drive the truck. I am not a mechanic, and nothing you see above should be construed as a mechanic's opinion. If you would like to have your mechanic look at the truck, I would encourage that as well.

There are NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED on this vehicle. the vehicle is being sold with a clear title, as is, where is. Again, you are encouraged to come have a look, or have your mechanic do so, please call me at 610 806 3954

Thanks for looking and again, please don't hesitate to call me with any questions, etc. at 610 806 3954.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.
That's why we're pleased to see the DIY specification utility for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado come alive so soon after this week's Detroit Auto Show debut. While the configurator lacks pricing (General Motors hasn't announced numbers yet) and full options, you can still spec out your half-ton rig, and even print it out or email it to your friends. Beyond the configurator, the new model-specific site is pretty cool, too, with various videos and closer looks at the truck's new features.
The new Chevrolet pickup range won't be on dealer lots until sometime this summer, so whether you're a building contractor, an avid sportsman or just a guy or gal that loves full-size trucks, you might want to check out the link below to keep your appetite whetted. If you're more of a Sierra fan, well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a while - GMC hasn't updated its site yet.

Why does the Corvette Stingray have so many vents? Here's why

Sun, 27 Jan 2013

Just looking at the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, it's not hard to see that the car's design was created with aerodynamics at the forefront, but Chevrolet designers point out exactly what went into designing the iconic coupe in a pair of recently released videos. The videos show the Corvette going through early design phases, including clay models and wind tunnel tests, as well as talking to the car's chief engineer, Tadge Juechter.
Both videos help explain various aspects of the C7 Corvette, but it's the aero tuning of the car that is most interesting. This includes extra attention paid to the lower air dam and vented hood to help reduce drag and lift, while the rear quarter inlets are for differential and transmission cooling. Juechter said that some of these aero-tuned elements were inspired from GM's involvement in racing.
If you have about five minutes and you can't get enough information about the new 'Vette, then check out the videos posted below.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra show all their sides in Detroit

Tue, 15 Jan 2013

There could hardly be more riding on the next-generation General Motors full-size pickup trucks, so the automaker has wisely made sure to have a selection of different models on hand at the Detroit Auto Show to show off. The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra were both officially introduced last month at a stand-alone reveal, and now they'll be on display for the public to see in various body configurations and trim levels.
The Silverado LTZ Crew Cab and Sierra SLE Extended Cab are aimed at providing more of a high-end pickup experience, while the Silverado LT Z71 Extended Cab and Sierra SLT Z71 Crew Cab should have off-road fans scouting out their favorite trails. The crew cab trucks won't go into production until sometime during the second quarter of this year - with other bodystyles coming later in the year - but we have plenty of live images from Detroit for you to enjoy.
