I am selling my old pickup that has been in my family for several years now. I bought it from my brother earlier this year and he bought it years back from an older gentlemen who I believe was the original owner. Documentation from the original purchase is pictured.

Body is solid and you can tell that some of the front sheet metal has been repainted at some time in the past and the rest of the paint appears original. Cab corners are good and rocker panels have some surface rust but are solid. The bed bottom is straight and has been used very little. Rally wheels with all-terrain Uniroyal tires with very low miles.

Mechanically, neither my brother or I have done anything to the truck with the exception of batteries and recently a new thermostat housing due to a leak. Otherwise, just normal servicing. It has a 305 which Is believed to be original and starts up and runs smooth. 3-speed automatic transmission shifts smooth as well. Occasionally it will give a puff of smoke on a cold startup which is probably worn valve guides. Valve cover gaskets leak and I will try to replace before the end of the auction.

Interior is clean as seen in pictures. Seat in in good shape and dash has a couple of small cracks. Tilt column. Radio works. Fuel gauge and voltmeter work and oil pressure and temperature move, but are not accurate. Windows roll up and down nicely and wing windows work well also. Has factory air conditioning which is complete but not working.

Based on its history, there is no reason I wouldn't drive this truck anywhere. Please look at the pictures and ask any questions that you might have. Keep in mind that this truck is over 30 years old and is not perfect, but runs and shows well for its age. Truck is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early.

Sorry for the sideways pictures - they were loaded from my phone.

Thanks for looking.

GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.
