1968 GMC 1500 series truck. Short wide bed. Straight 6 cylinder, 250 engine with three on the tree transmission. Runs and drives great.
This is a fun little truck. It does have its issues, just like all of them do, but they are nothing that keep it from being a cool little driver. It starts, runs, steers and stops as it should. It does ride a little rough, it has been lowered and GMC trucks are leaf sprung, they don't ride as well as Chevy C10 trucks do with the coil spring set up in the rear. The little 250 just putts down the road with no problems. It will never win any speed contests but the whole time you are driving it, you have a big grin on your face. The transmission shifts smoothly, no slop or binding on the linkage. It is unmolested under the hood. The factory air cleaner is intact with all hoses still attatched. Points type distributor fires right up and does not miss a beat.
The interior is all there, of course one of the previous owners hacked a hole in the dash for a cd player but there is a cover panel over it. The seat is just that, a seat. it will need recovering and a little padding replaced. Seatbelts are intact. Windows roll up and down, wipers, turn signals, headlights,, even the horn, they all work. It does need a windshiled. There is a small rust through on the drivers floorboard near the door opening. Nothing major.
Overall, the body is in good shape. It has had a bedside replaced at one time. The tailgate is intact, opens and shuts as it should. Bed floor is in real nice condition. There is a nasty looking dent behind the drivers door. It does not affect the door opening and closing but would really look better if it were fixed. The cab supports are good, the area above windshield is good, the doors are a lot better than most of these old trucks.
We went for the shop truck look with the red painted wheels. The tires are driver condition, I would want new ones if I were going to be driving this truck all the time and for any long trips. Please do not classify this truck as a Rat Rod,, it has the right grille, seats floorboards and dash. It is just a cool old hot rod style truck.
Is it a show truck? No. Is it loaded with luxury options and power accessories? No. Is it a cool old truck you can afford and drive while you fix or change the things you want? EXACTLY... Manual steering, manual drums, hand crank windows,, this is a real truck. You can buy this, throw your shop logo on it and have a neat little parts chaser.

GM won't sell 2014 Chevrolet SS in Canada
Thu, 21 Feb 2013Allow us to be the first to extend our condolences to our friends to the north. General Motors has announced the 2014 Chevrolet SS will not be available in Canada. The Globe and Mail reports the automaker has confirmed the high-performance sedan won't hit Canadian dealers, though GM hasn't offered up any reasoning as to why that is.
Buyers here in the US of A, meanwhile, can look forward to getting their hands on the 415-horspower, rear-wheel drive SS by late summer. Something tells us it won't be long after that before Canadian officials start seeing individually imported 6.2-liter V8 four-doors in their neighborhoods. Fortunately, Canadian buyers will still be able to take home the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The C7 bowed at the Canadian International Auto Show last week, reportedly drawing sizable crowds and interest.
GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech
Tue, 24 Dec 2013The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite
Mon, 21 Jan 2013Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.
That's why we're pleased to see the DIY specification utility for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado come alive so soon after this week's Detroit Auto Show debut. While the configurator lacks pricing (General Motors hasn't announced numbers yet) and full options, you can still spec out your half-ton rig, and even print it out or email it to your friends. Beyond the configurator, the new model-specific site is pretty cool, too, with various videos and closer looks at the truck's new features.
The new Chevrolet pickup range won't be on dealer lots until sometime this summer, so whether you're a building contractor, an avid sportsman or just a guy or gal that loves full-size trucks, you might want to check out the link below to keep your appetite whetted. If you're more of a Sierra fan, well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a while - GMC hasn't updated its site yet.
