1976 Chevy Blazer Chalet 4X4, the ultimate camper/hunting vehicle/zombie apocalypse bug-out vehicle
Offered for sale is my 1976 Chevy Blazer Chalet. This camper is #0258 of roughly 1700 that were produced by GM in 1976-77. The short story is GM rolled the K5 Blazer off the line, sent them over to Chinook who built the custom camper, and then they were sold at Chevy/GM dealership as option 16T5 "Chalet Camper Conversion" There is a great deal of info on the web at blazerchalet dot com as well as numerous blogs and forums dedicated to the Blazer Chalet.
General:
With the top up, the interior measures 6'5". The two side bench seats are multi-purpose. In their upright position they provide normal seating, install the pole and table top that are stored in the closet and they become your dinette set, fold them down and they become your bed. The "kitchen" has a 2-burner stove, fridge, and a small sink as well as a built-in propane furnace for heating the camper. The truck/camper has been repainted at some point in their life. (White/green was not an option in 1976)
The Good:
Vehicle has roughly 106,000 miles with roughly 38,000 miles on the rebuilt 350 and Turbo 400. I do not know when or if the transfer case was rebuilt. The entire drivetrain is very solid and the 4 wheel drives works perfectly. The engine has headers and a newer dual exhaust with no leaks.
Dual batteries, both less than a year old. Optima red top for the chassis, deep cycle for the camper with isolator so the camper can't discharge your starting battery. Also equipped with a trickle charger when you are plugged into 120v
3-way Dometic fridge (propane, 12V, 120V) is roughly 5 years old and works perfectly.
Last spring I replaced the entire water system including 10-gallon tank, (under driver's side bench seat), 12v pump, 3-way faucet, as well as all fill, drain, and pressure lines. (sorry, your hot water heater is a pot on the stove method)
This spring I replaced the entire propane system. For the sake of more storage room I replaced the 5lb propane tank with a smaller 2 1/2lb tank, new regulator, new braided lines that feed the fridge, stove, and furnace. I also installed a tee with an adaptor so you can run your gas grill outside without having to pack along the green propane bottles.
Cab AC recharged last spring and blows cold.
Rear suspension is equipped with Air Lift airbags (no leaks)
About 1500 miles ago I had all the fluids replaced. Engine oil, transmission fluid and filter, transfer case, front and rear differentials.
Tires are Dunlop Radial Rover 31x10.5x15 with around 60 to 70% tread on 6-lug rally wheels.
The material in the pop top is good, but the screen material is long gone so I have never unzipped the windows.

The Bad:
Cruise control system is all present but does not work
Camper equipped with an 8-foot awning but the stitching is starting to come undone.
Small leak from the transfer case.
Dash clock does not work.
Heater fan motor needs to be replaced (works 50/50)
Speedometer is nowhere close to accurate (reads 36mph at 55 mph) I use my GPS instead.
The truck has numerous rust spots which are mostly minor but could use some attention before they get worse. The worst rust issue is around the driver's door latch pin, it could use some attention soon
Summary:
This camper is adult owned and well maintained. So far this year the camper has been on 5 trips with 3 of them being over 300 miles round trip, I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. The camper runs and drives very well, feels like you are driving a truck with a large load in the rear. (Which you essentially are). Unfortunately, my wife has seen too much of all of our friend's travel trailers and somehow got it in her head that people need a shower and toilet.
Terms:

Clean, clear title in-hand.
Vehicle is for sale locally and i reserve the right to end auction early if it sells
Vehicle is sold as-is, where is. If you need assistance getting to the shipper of your choice I would be glad to help.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra introduced

2014 Chevy Silverado High Country spied wearing trappings of new luxury trim

Wed, 03 Apr 2013

Spy photographers have spotted the new Chevrolet Silverado High Country and GMC Sierra Denali out on public streets for a little testing. From the looks of things, the Silverado will receive a much-differentiated front fascia along with special badges and those honking 20-inch chrome wheels. Expect to find a more posh interior as well. Likewise, the Sierra Denali will wear a tweaked nose with the familiar Denali bling. The one of the GMC trucks spotted here rolls on 21-inch gunmetal wheels instead of the 20-inch chrome pieces of the High Country.
Word has it both trucks will go on sale after the Texas State Fair this summer. While General Motors hasn't said for certain what we can expect to find under the hood, we'd be surprised to see anything outside of the range of engines found in the standard Silverado and Sierra models. That means buyers should be able to get their hands on the efficient, 23-miles per gallon 5.3-liter V8.

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner

Sat, 24 Aug 2013

For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
