Found! An all original unrestored 1957 Chevy. The previous owner parked the car in 1984 to be restored. Lots of new and used parts were ordered and will be included with the sale. The engine was partially disassembled, rags were stuffed into holes, and the project was stopped and never completed. The owner has since passed on and I bought this from his wife. According to the Idaho DMV there was only one title prior to me. Overall the body and underside are in pretty good condition for the age. Some rust through in the floor pans. No signs of bondo or any kind of body repair. Except for the front left fender the body is pretty straight. Everything looks original, except for the voltage regulator which looks aftermarket. All of the windows and doors operate. There is a dent in the right rear quarterpanel, a few small dents on the roof, and it looks like the car ran over a rock. I do not see any major frame damage, just a dent on a support member.  The frame looks straight. The front windshield needs replacing. This is a major restoration project, but car is pretty complete. Matching engine & VIN numbers, radiator # is correct, I didn't check others numbers. It looks like all of the parts removed from the engine compartment were placed in the trunk, and are shown on one of the pictures. The engine turns over freely by hand, not frozen.

For an extra $500 plus crating and shipping the buyer can have a nice 350 engine, has 4-bbl Rochester. I heard it running in the donor vehicle before it was pulled. The antifreeze was clear and green, the oil was light bodied and not burnt, oil pressure was good, idled smooth. Looking in the oil filler opening the valves and head are spotless. This was a recent high quality rebuild. The block was decked (no VIN) but other than that, I  do not know what all was done, and I am not going o tear it apart to find out. The only way to find out exactly what is inside would be to tear it apart and measure everything. was just going to put it in the Chevy, replace the clutch, and drive it. Look closely at the pictures and you can see the engine on a stand.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is a Swiss hit

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

We've just received an early peek at the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible here at the Geneva Motor Show. General Motors was kind enough to let us attend the final dress-rehearsal for its press conference scheduled for tomorrow's opening media day, and we've come away with a good look at the droptop C7 in person.
In the metal, the new Corvette Convertible seems somehow less avant-garde than the Coupe, even in Z51 Performance Package guise. That's not necessarily a bad thing - more of an observation. That initial impression may be because the C7's new greenhouse is one of its most prominent departures from Corvettes past. While we didn't get to see the top erected, there's no rear side window in the stock images that Chevy has already released, suggesting the C7 convertible's profile will look a lot like its C6 predecessor. And with the new power tonneau cover in place, there are also no rear ducts that come as part of the Z51 package (they've been moved under the car).
As with its predecessor, the tonneau is a handsome double-bubble piece, and the body-color "waterfall" element into the cabin between the seats has made it to the new model as well. Thus, the overall look with the top down should be a bit more familiar to prior-gen C6 owners - if you're one of those put off by the C7's new shape, you'll probably appreciate the convertible bodystyle more than the coupe.

These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky

Fri, 24 Aug 2012

It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).

Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.
