1955 Chevrolet BelAir

This is a very solid example of a 55. This is a true BelAir car that originally was a 6 cylinder The paint is 30 years old and shows as such. It looks great for a driver but it has the normal dings and nicks that you would expect from 30 years of enjoyment. It also allows you to see how solid the body is on this 55.  It does have a small amount of rust in the dog legs of the two rear floor braces.  Everything else on this car is in great shape or new. Everything from the radiator to the rear end is new or rebuilt. It has a new aluminum Griffin radiator and shroud with electric fan. A fresh 454 with Winters aluminum heads, roller rockers and a hydraulic camshaft. It has a Victor Jr. intake, Holley carburetor, MSD distributor and Mallory ignition. The engine accessories are driven with a March Performance 5 rib pulley system. All of this is monitored on Auto Meter gauges. The transmission is a fresh M21 4 speed with new clutch and flywheel connected to a posi 3:36 stock housing rear. The wheels are American Racing Hopsters in 17'' with a staggered tire setup. The interior is in great shape and shows well. All of the front and rear supension and steering have been rebuilt. This car drives very good and is very tight! It has disc brakes up front with a power booster and master cylinder and GM style proportioning valve. It has a new steering box and lines with front and rear sway bars. You must drive and see this car to appreciate what it actually is. All of the glass and trim are nice with the exception of the bumpers, they are a little weak. Very solid car that’s ready to be driven or further the restoration. Paint and bumpers would complete the restoration on this one, or you could just get out and drive it with no concerns of picking up a chip here or there! Give us a call for more details at 615-220-9000 and ask for Brian.  We welcome you to come and see the car for yourself at anytime during the auction.

Mother's Day Suggestion No. 2,506

Thu, 02 May 2013

With Mother's Day coming up, we're always looking for new gift ideas to celebrate the occasion, but hot laps around a track might not be the best suggestion for Darius Khashabi. In a video posted on YouTube, Khashabi straps his mom into the passenger seat of his C6 Corvette Z06 for some laps around Sonoma Raceway (formerly Infineon Raceway) at "60 percent" with comical results.
Now this isn't the first time Mama Khashabi has gotten seat time in her son's car around a track, as his YouTube page shows him pulling a similar stunt - with similar results - around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last year. Scroll down for the video, but know that the action really gets going at around the 1:40 mark.

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir.
