Up for “NO RESERVE” auction is my 1965 Buick Riviera with front end collision damage.  My father purchased the car in 1989 and car located since new in Las Vegas and moved to northern Nevada where it has been garaged (even after collision).  That means there is no rust.  Car was originally bronze and was repainted to the color you see.  I have all receipts since October 1989 validating mileage.  Included with purchase are shop manuals, frame chart (will be needed on front frame) and several copies of Riviera Owners Assoc. magazines with good tips, etc.  I was in the process of collecting necessary parts to rebuild the car.  These include front grille, fan shroud, power steering pump, extra headlight(s), one outer fender and I can’t remember what else (over $1000).  Parts that I’ve removed and are fine are included.  Riviera emblems and trim pieces are fine.  Windshield is cracked from the impact (I broadsided a vehicle at about 15MPH). I’ve kept all the crunched pieces.  401 Nailhead motor is numbers matching & not rebuilt and runs fine (was still running after collision with battery & power steering pump bashed).  Had removed fuel tank & cleaned.  Headliner is completely intact.  Original upholstery, side panels, etc. will need replaced/restored.  Tires have 400 miles on them on Ralley wheels.  Power windows, seats  and rare air-conditioner (blew warm air).  Original headlight motors worked great.  I really wanted to get this car back on the road but now need the garage space and don’t want to leave it out in the weather.  Car is very rebuildable.  My loss is your gain.  Vehicle is located near Carson City, Nevada and is available for inspection.  The car is being sold in “As-Is” condition with salvage title and buyer is responsible for pick-up and/or transport.  If you have questions, please ask and thanks for looking.

Small number of 2013 Buick Encore models recalled for loose steering wheel

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

General Motors has issued a recall and a stop sale for the 2013 Buick Encore due to an issue that could result in the steering wheel falling off on certain models. In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, GM says that 144 Encores equipped with heated steering wheels could have been incorrectly retrofitted due to a parts shortage.
Needless to say, a loose or separated steering wheel would likely cause an accident if it happened while the vehicle was in motion. The recall doesn't go into effect until April 12, but concerned Encore owners can use the official recall notice (attached below) to contact GM.

eBay Find Of The Day: 1946 Tucker Torpedo Prototype II hides a secret Riviera

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

The Tucker Torpedo is one of the great what-if stories of automotive history. Preston Tucker hoped to revolutionize the industry with a car unlike any other on the road at the time. However, due to a variety of problems, he only managed build 51 vehicles before closing shop. Over time, they have become highly sought-after; In 2012, one sold for $2.65 million at auction.
That brings us to this Tucker "replica" that you see above because it might be one of the ugliest monstrosities ever put together. However, we might extend some leniency to the creator, as the vehicle isn't actually trying to replicate the classic look of the 1948 Tucker Torpedo. Instead, it is attempting to reproduce an earlier prototype from 1946 that actually features that weird, trident nose. According to the seller, his uncle built the car as a labor of love and supposedly used actual plans from Tucker as inspiration.
Underneath all of the crazy changes is a 1971 Buick Riviera powered by a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) Buick V8. Some of the replica's odder modifications include the front fenders that turn with the wheels and the fin running down the back. All three headlights work, but the one in the middle is only for the high beams. Oddly, the small hinged sections on the roof are meant to open to avoid hitting your head when getting in or out. Maybe the seller's uncle was a very tall guy?

GM recalls 51k Enclave, Traverse, Acadia crossovers over fuel gauge inaccuracy

Mon, 05 May 2014

With all eyes fixed on General Motors in the wake of the ignition recall debacle, the auto giant has been carefully calling in a wide array of vehicles to fix anything and everything that could prove problematic. Just the other day it issued two separate recalls - one concerning the Cadillac SRX and another its heavy-duty pickups - and now it is issuing another.
This time the vehicles in question are the Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia, three fullsize crossovers based on GM's Lambda platform. In an estimated 51,640 units manufactured between March 26 and August 15, 2013, the engine control module has been found to incorrectly display the level of fuel in the tank.
As a result, owners are being notified to bring their vehicles in to their local dealers to have the ECU reflashed to fix the problem. View the full details in the announcement below from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
