2004 Bmw M3 Base Coupe 2-door 3.2l on 2040-cars

This auction is for a single owner, 2004 BMW M3 in excellent original condition!

It's black on black with the optional 19" wheels shod in Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires with plenty of tread left.

This car has always and only ever been serviced at BMW of Towson and strictly by the book. Every service ever called for was performed in sequence and on time including the very expensive valve adjustments and inspections. There were three recalls of which this model year were susceptible - all three were immediately performed, again at Towson BMW. The only service ever not performed at Towson BMW was the brand new OEM clutch assembly that was installed by Pikesville Automotive just two weeks ago! While out, the transmission and flywheel were inspected and found to be in proper operational condition. The SMG ECU transmission control module was reprogrammed following the installation and now the transmission shifts fast and flawlessly through all six gears! They also changed the oil with fully synthetic Castrol 10W60 and replaced the battery. All records are on file back to 2007 at Towson BMW. Apparently their system was purged of everything prior to that year. I can furnish those records as well.

The car does have 163,500 miles so I won't say it's in perfect condition but it is in great condition. The exterior has a couple small minor dings that any decent paintless dent repair guy could easily pop out. No major dents, scratches or scuffs. NO ACCIDENTS!! The wheels are in less than great condition but are perfectly functional - there is a bit of curb rash on each wheel, though no bends or dents. Otherwise, the exterior looks like the garage kept car it is - GREAT!

The interior is also in very good condition. The leather is excellent with no tears, scuffs or wear marks, front or rear. The carpet and headliner are also great. The only issue with the interior is the bit of paint crackling around the shift knob and window switches on the center console and steering wheel...this is strictly cosmetic and really doesn't look that bad at all. Otherwise, the interior is also in very good shape.

Mechanically the car needs nothing to my knowledge. It starts right up and drives the way it was designed to from the factory...like a champ! All the bells and whistle - window switches, sunroof, power and heated seats, door locks, Harmon Kardon stereo, etc - function properly.

The car is in all original condition except for the front corner and side lights which were replaced with the darker euro-style lights that look a lot better next to the factory Xenon lights.

Not much else to report at this point. I encourage any interested bidders to come see and test drive the vehicle but if you'd rather not and just bid, please do so with confidence. Trust me, the car is as described.

Cash payment is preferred, followed by check and then Paypal if necessary. Title is in hand and clear.

Feel free to call with any question.

Thanks,

JAS

Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Awards honors GM Super Cruise, BMW i3

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

Our friends at Popular Mechanics have announced the winners of their 2013 Breakthrough Awards, which honor innovations and new technologies in a variety of fields, ranging from medicine to electronics to space travel. Among the winners were a pair of automakers.
The BMW i3 was named one of PM's product breakthroughs, and while the diminutive city car has a range comparable to other electrics, Popular Mechanics was impressed the i3's use of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, which allows the i3 to tip the scales at just 2,800 pounds. But the i3's space-age materials wouldn't have been such a smash if it were priced beyond what the general public could afford. BMW's ability to offer a vehicle with such an advanced construction for around $42,000 (nearly half the price of the Cadillac ELR and only about $7,000 more than a Chevrolet Volt or Ford Focus Electric) is wildly impressive and speaks volumes about the future of ultra-light composites in the auto industry.
The other big winner comes from General Motors, which was named an Innovator this year for its semi-autonomous Super Cruise technology that's currently being tested on a Cadillac SRX. The technology, which we've reported on before, combines adaptive cruise control and lane centering into a super system that will allow hands-free driving under certain conditions.

BMW i Collection puts upscale treehugging in the palm of your hand

Sun, 22 Sep 2013

If BMW's new i sub-brand sounds more like it belongs to consumer electronics than it does to automobiles, that's probably no mistake. After all, electric vehicles bridge the gap between conventional automobile and electronic gadget - just ask our compatriots over at Engadget that report on them all the time. But to drive the point home even greener, BMW has, together with the new i3, launched a new collection of electronics accessories that make the Bavarian automaker as much a competitor with companies like Belkin or Griffin as it is with Audi or Mercedes-Benz.
The new BMW i Collection includes items like a solar charger for phones and MP3 players, a laptop bag made from felt-like recycled PET plastic and vegetable-tanned leather, and of course the requisite USB dongle. Other items include keyfobs, a shopping bag, notebook and ballpoint pen.
All the items, of course, are designed to extend the i3's upscale tree-hugging image to items you can hold and use while your EV is charging in the driveway. They go on sale starting next month with prices ranging from 15 euros ($20) for the pen or lanyard to 99 euros ($135) for the shopping bag. Details in the press release below and images of the whole collection in the gallery above.

Giles Taylor succeeds Ian Cameron as head of Rolls-Royce design

Thu, 28 Jun 2012

Back in the day, a Rolls-Royce looked pretty much the same as a Bentley, but with a different grille. Once BMW took over Rolls-Royce, however, it was faced with the challenge of visually separating itself from its former sister brand. And most would agree that it did so pretty well. But its cars have looked pretty much the same ever since. What Rolls-Royce needs, then, is a bit of a design shake-up. And that's just what this latest appointment could bring.
After a baker's dozen years as design director at Rolls-Royce (and twenty years designing for the BMW Group altogether), Ian Cameron is retiring from his post. In his place, Rolls-Royce has named Giles Taylor as its new director of design. In his new capacity, Taylor will report directly to BMW Group chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk, and be responsible for all design matters related to the Rolls-Royce brand and its products.
Taylor was promoted to the role from his previous position as head of exterior design for the marque, a position he's held for barely more than a year. We'll be eagerly watching to see what the veteran British car designer has in store for the future of Rolls-Royce. In the meantime you can read the full announcement below.
