Car repainted in original color about 1996, several scratches and dings thru out."

Very reluctant sale of my 4/87 build 1988 M3. I have started small family and with new house have no room to keep her anymore. Car originally purchased in Atlanta in 1988 then moved to South Carolina where its been since. I have owned car last 15 years and have only put about 10,000 miles on her in that time. Previous owner resprayed car in about 1996 in original Diamantschwarz and added M color pinstripes under clearcoat. All sheetmetal is original and all show same VIN #. Again hood, front fenders, doors, trunk, rear fenders all show same OEM VIN# ending 5509. 100% original interior with black leather on grey carpet (some stains) and perfect headliner. I removed radio and have never cut into any interior panels for speakers. A/C works but is NOT cold. Power sunroof and windows work but driverside power mirror does not. Perfect crackfree, scratchfree dash and all original glass except for rear windshield that was replaced after dent (pictured) put above 3rd brakelight. The only panel gap thats not perfect is right rear corner where bumper meets quarter panel. There is crease (pictured) in sheetmetal under right rear tail light area of trunk, this was there when I purchased car. Paint is ok on sides and has good shine but horizontal areas hood, roof, trunk have dulled some from sun exposure. Clearcoat has peeled in several spots(pictured) and there are afew scratches and dimesize dings around car. Trunk wing shows worst clearcoat cracking and peeling as most e30 M3's do. Only rust on car is 3 surface rust spots (pictured) one under rear quarter glass and rolled lip of front fenders where paint peeled (pictured). Grill and trunk M3 emblems were removed when resprayed and never replaced. Car has original s14 engine that has never been into with about 197,500 miles. I say about because odometer broke no more than 300 miles ago. This is common issue on 80's BMW's as plastic odometer gears strip, Google it. Car starts and idles fine although starter sticks about 50% of time. There is intermitant loud noise until motor warms up that I would describe as powersteering related or possibly one of belt pulleys on front of motor. Only real issue I have ever had was what I thought to be fuel delivery problem but since changing ECU in glovebox, plugs, fuel filter, and disconnecting altitude sensor by cold air box she has run great! With only 10,000 miles in 15 years i've done several oil and filter changes but no one brand oil. Driving wise brake pedal is firm with lots of pad still, clutch pedal is crisp and no problems going thru gears. Car does'nt pull left or right on highway and shocks feel good. Wheels on car are 17' BBS RGR 1 piece with 95% tread Kumho tires. I am including OEM 16" BBS basketweave wheels that have old AVS Yoko's, however I have not located wheel center covers at this time. I will not accept offers before end of auction and won't do ppi because car could obviously use maintenance and tuneup with this mileage. Please call with any questions 803-261-6849 and I welcome any visitors to view car.

BMW M6 amped up for track duty by Risden

Sat, 22 Dec 2012

Risden Engineering is a bit of an unknown, if we're being completely honest - we have yet to report on the company to date, and its corporate website is really an information desert save for the name and a few email addresses. Even the press release that we requested from Risden's contact person is short and vague. That's all pretty much okay with us as long as the shadowy tuners, you know, make good on this sweet-looking BMW M6 racecar thing.
Dubbed the Risden 6R, we're told that the M6 modification will result in a vehicle that is more adept at track work, while still being street-legal. In terms of specifics, we read that a full aero kit will be involved, with one fixed and one retractable rear wing (hard to miss). There are obviously new wheels, and the company has also added a fully adjustable suspension, a four-point roll bar and a new braking system - all while reducing curb weight overall.
Apparently more details are to follow after the 6R's official release in the first quarter of 2013. We wait with bated breath.

2015 BMW X4 configurator is ready to get personal

Thu, 17 Apr 2014

The 2015 BMW X4 configurator is ready for your special touch. Starting with the 300-horsepower xDrive35i that starts at $48,925 after destination, our special touch aimed at a luxury cruiser and added $9,250 to proceedings for a final tally of $58,175. That got us the Technology, Lighting and Driver Assistance packages, navigation and enhanced USB and smartphone integration. We were tempted to go for the Dynamic Damping Control for just $1,000 and a set of 20-inch M Double Spoke Wheels, but the configurator didn't want to mix the M Sport Line with our Sparkling Brown metallic exterior hue so we skipped it.
We've covered the details on pricing and the breakdown of the order guide elsewhere, so you can always click through for refreshers. Or you can skip all those words and dive straight into trying to build an X4 that makes you say, "Yeah, now I get it."

Old vs. new debate gets new life with $25,000 Fiesta ST vs. E46 M3 showdown

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

You know who you are. There's probably a few of you reading; the ones that say, "Why would I spend $27,000 on a new Mazda MX-5 when I could get a used Chevrolet Corvette with more power." Yes, we're talking to you, used car proponents. While it is a fair argument, it's not like used cars don't come with drawbacks of their own, though.
In an attempt to put this new-versus-used argument to bed once and for all, Matt Farah of the The Smoking Tire has picked up a pair of $25,000 cars - a used, but lightly modified, 2003 BMW M3 and a 2013 Ford Fiesta ST. Naturally, there's a comparison.
Farah, as he's wont to do, does get into the nitty gritty of what each car is like to drive, and discusses the merits of used and new-car shopping. But as he rightly points out while testing the M3, "So, it is a good car. But like any used car, it really does depend on the individual car."
